If you want to keep the project alive, you must get permission from the company that owns Naruto, or else they will shut you down because of copyright.

Nope. I can name countless Chrono Trigger projects which Square-Enix (such an evil company  ) has shut down, for absolutely no reason.

Yes sadly as those above me have written, a company can shut you down for any reason. On our old forums there where huge topics about this and finally Fabian I believe showed a document saying that even if the game is non-commercial if it is copy written, then you can still be shut down.

Designing a game around a TV show has so many issues, the copy right is just one of them. Another is what are you going to use for characters? characters from the TV show wont work, if your making an rpg ok, but not an mmorpg, you can't you'll have a handful of people all looking the same which is just dumb.

Original ideas not rip off wastes of time and talent.

Basically, your project is screwed as it is, you need to redesign it with ideas that are not copyrighted (a good place to start is thinking up your own). Regardless of whether the project will be commercial or not, it's still a violation of copyright. As Eriond mentioned, many Chrono Trigger projects have been shut down.

Psychotomus- After 2 months of silence, don't expect a response. Try re-emailing. My first recommendation, however, would be to simply create an original game.

We do have our own ideas for games, this was just for a fan fic game. And dont you need to have a little bit of the project done to show the company that your trying to get to let you permit the game?

Regardless, you're not a major company in the video game industry and you don't have the money to buy rights. The company that owns Naruto is not going to give permission to any 'ol small game project that comes strolling along because it doesn't profit them at all and it would be unfair to only give permission to one small project and not others, and neither are they going to give permission to every game project because they would make no money off of it. Copyright is a very important thing to hold on to.
