2nd day at this, I'm wondering how to make cool backgrounds. Backgrounds like fire, outside, forests, houses, etc. Is there brushes or something?

Also wondering how to make borders, when I use rectangle tool with overlay it's also screwing up to picture/text.

Yeah, its alot of fun, really gives out your creative vibes. Yes, brushing filters plugins and stuff. that will help you make chosen effects.

yeah, personally i like using filters when making backrounds.
they make cool effects over gradients and colors.

Also use some tutorials you can get really good backgournds with thouse.

Do you guys know where to find good tuts?
All I know is http://www.tutorio.com/sig-tutorials.html which most of them are grunge.
All I know is grunge backgrounds O_o (My halo soldier's background was actually a grunge background but gone horrible wrong! lawl)

What do you use? Gimp?

I don't really use tutorials, Just brush around if you're gonna use a render, you can always edit it later.

The best backgrounds are the most original and simple backgrounds. For instance:

Don't call me fruity. It was a sig of the week. Now IMO it's my best background and it involved little to no work once I figured out what I wanted. BTW... I made this by taking the rectangle select tool set at like 20 x 100px. And used the fill tool

Nice example but even that is too hard for me, all I know how to make is grunge backgrounds still, *in the process of making a fiery background sig yay!*

I was wondering how to make a sig with no pictures, just background interesting. I just don't get it.
How do I make a border? No one is anwsering so I'm guessing you guys forgot about it, I'm using rectangle tool with Overlay and it's blending my picture/text with it. Anyone can solve my problem?

as for borders, you can make a rectangel select like you do, inverse select, and then go image> brightness/contrast and lower the brightness to an acceptable degree.

Use the Rectangle Marquee tool, stroke (if that option is unavailable select 'new layer') then go 1 px width, center, opacity 100%, and whatever color you want.

I don't know where the hell this inverse crap is coming in.

c4d's are those 3d glowy type renders that you see in some sigs, they are used to make really cool backgrounds and such,. I believe.

ehh, um... 6/10, its alright, but your attempt at a backround at the bottom is misplaced and teh right wing of ur renders is a lttle weird. also the render doesnt have enough detail (too small)
