If you like 2D games and would like to come see us then visit us at www.torn-rpg.co.nr
Not all features will be in the first beta but among those that are ready include: Mining, Crafting, Player houseing
I know not much but it will constantly grow. We as a team will work to include as many features and our player base can imagine.
Currently our server can hold upwards of 500 clients at one time and will grow as needed.
Below is the story of Torn as we have it to this point. Also there are a couple screenshots on the website. Also I thought I would mention Torn is largly PvP based but with more thought put into the exploration phase of gaming.
The Creation
Desire sat before her empty canvas, before the void and nothingness that was what She called 'universe.' With her palette near her side, she began to draw her darkened brush in long, thick strokes, until the once ashen canvas was obsidian. The darkness pleased Her, but soon her eyes began to wander and her thoughts wane. She dipped her brush within the White, and dotted the canvas with millions of stars.
Still, her whole being ached for more, her need keeping her eyes transfixed upon the canvas for millions of years. She brought her brush to her palette, and as the strands finished their soak within the bister, she painted an oval within the center of her image. Satisfied as she was at the teeming orb, even the erratic ripples and waves could not keep her soul from want.
Millennia passed as she watched the world, and when here own eyes began to tear in failure, the orb to which she watched hardened. The once rippling and brisling bister ceased, and within her ever curious gaze, began to firm. She marveled at the wonder, the tears that did fill her eyes were of joy, and not sorrow.
"I shall call you 'earth,' and the hardened orb shook silently in joyful praise.
But, for another countless millennia, Desire's joy and happiness ceased, and she found Herself wanting more. She watched the blackness turn to brown, and from brown to a yellowish tint. She brought her brush to the 'earth,' and as the soil waned and groaned and shifted under the pain to which Desire gave, the crevices and lowered portions filled with an azure liquid.
"And you shall be called 'water,'" Desire spoke, and the water rippled and waved and slashed at her Brother earth in joy.
But, the once loved Earth now felt scorned.
As the whole of the water spent its days in calm and peacefulness, the Earth began to scheme. In a fit of vengeance rage, the Earth billowed upward, splitting the once joyful water into large sections, or smaller pools. The Earth called its barriers Mountains, and reveled in the pain and hurt it caused the water. But, Desire spoke harshly.
"You devious betrayer!" She yelled, and her words reached the ground. The mountains to which the Earth created filled to the brim with fire, and the harsh words bite at the mountains in the strongest of winds. But, the Earth stood firm, even has it's body opened in sickening sores to pour out its fiery 'blood.' The weakened Earth bellowed in laughter as the precious Water that Desire chose to love over itself was engulfed within the Earth.
But even the water that washed upon the ground was not defeated. The winds that blew stirred the water, and the heat from the sun bore down upon it. Soon, the emptied skies filled with clouds, and the water bled from the clouds upon the earth once more.
Desire was angered, but still marveled at the new creation to which inhabited her world: earth, wind, fire, and water.
But when even she believed all was done and nothing more could be wrought, the ground broke open. A single, solitary soul was borne. The emerald soul spread its flattened wings, and Desire spoke lovingly, "I will call you 'plant.' And the plant waved its leaves in praise.
As the plant grew and matured, it casts its seed into the wind. All over the scarred face of the earth, more and more plants began to grow. The Earth did not contest, for its strength was still weakened from its battle lose.
And when Desire's imagination was empty, and her thoughts completely unfathomable, her eyes settled upon the newest feature to her world.
"And I shall call you animal," She said, and the doe bent its head down in reverence.
And even as Desire wondered as to how such a creature could have formed, the Earth and Water took to the shadows to speak.
"We created the 'soul,' yet Mother Desire took it as her own. We created the 'being,' yet now it bows its head to Mother Desire. This can not stand." The wind howled in the hollow caves of the inner cavern.
"You speak the truth, sister Wind. She has taken and taken and what has she given? Nothing...." The earth replied in an echo throughout the Cavern Sanctuary. Both spoke in unison, the rumbling and the hollowing heard throughout the heavens.
"We shall take!"
It was then, within the heavens, Life awoke from its slumber. As it brought its eyes to the World, to the things that He had created: the plants and the animals, he saw darkness.
"Brother," A voice called from behind, and the illustrious being turned to see his mirror image, only darkened. "You are Life...and I, I am Death."
"What has happened while I slumbered? Where is the life that I have given to Mother Desire?"
"She has betrayed you...and created me. All that you had created, all that you have loved, is no more."
The formless being wailed so loud, his pain echoed from the canvas and to Mother Desire's ears. Her most beloved creation, Life, was in pain. Her tears fell from her eyes and to the canvas, and the saddened being engulfed the scarred earth. The tears soaked with the dead ground, and soon luscious plants and hundreds of animals took to the surface once more.
"I give you dominion over all, Life, my Beloved..." And as the first humans stood and turned toward their eyes to the heavens, Desire placed her brush and palette at her feet, and left the canvas to her Creation.
*The Reign of Death
With Desire's Will lifted from the conscious minds of the Gods, the Deities roamed freely upon the outer and inner worlds of their new home: Hostile.
Each Lord of the lands took to what they knew: The God of Wind breathed gently upon the humans, cooling their sweat ridden brows with a calm, northern breeze. The God of Earth gave Its body to the humans, allowing the Desired to till the land to plant their crops. The God of Plants tamed the trees to bear more fruit and allowed the fallowed fields to grow more than what was needed. Though saddened by the 'death' of Its mother, the God of Water wept, and the soft rains that rolled from the grayish cheeks high within the sky cleansed the Desired and their lands.
The God of Life also walked the lands: in the first breath of infants, as a tree first breaking the ground to reach its green leaves towards the Heavens. Each day, when the sun rose and caressed the land with its warmth, the God of Life witnessed. But, it was when he infested the womb of a readied mother did he witness the deeds of his 'brother.'
His brother, the God of Death, waited as the giving mother took her final breath. Through the babes young eyes, the God of Life watched Death creep into the mother's opened lips and witnessed in horror all that He gave, her happiness, her joy, wither and die.
"What have you done?" The God of Life cried as he pulled Death into the darkened void of the Heavens.
"You all do what you please; Wind blows, the Ground grows, and Plants flower and bloom and feed those wretched creatures that live. It is my Will, and just as you freely as you Give, I will take my place." And the God of Death took Its place.
For each new being; a sprouting tree, a new born fawn, or even a babe born to the loved Desired, Death crept within the masses and took the life of one. The God of Earth shook in fury as the Mountains it made were cleaved. The Wind howled and bite with rage as It was warmed and rose into the Heavens. And the God of Fire simmered as Death too Its heat and cooled. All cried out in their celestial forms in the Heavens "Something must be done!" for no matter how they fought, Death always conquered.
The God of Life stayed silent, for even if he spoke, his words of reason would not have reached the hate-filled minds of the Gods.
"Do you see what he does? He waits within the dagger of a Desired before the Desired plunges it into the heart of another. Why should We show anything less?" Wind cried.
"If We should walk as the Desired do, then we could drive a dagger into his heart and end his Life!"
"Then We shall!" Earth boomed.
"Lord of Life, Beloved of the Mother Desire, decree that we should make and mold ourselves like those to which we serve!"
"I cannot..."
It was then Death arose in the Heavens. "You can't what? Can you not stop the carnage I have wrought? Can you do nothing but sit and watch as I kill each and every one of your precious Desired?"
It was then the essence that was the God of Life rippled, and from the sphere of celestial mass, the silhouette of a being begin to form. Out of the bright yellow light etched the lines of a man: long legs and arms, with hair as faded as the setting sun, and a face untouched by care and worry.
In the space where the God of Earth resided stood a figure with the darkest of ebony for skin, his features seemingly carved and etched from the darkest of Obsidian stone. In the place of the God of Water sat a woman of pale skin, her deep azure hair rippling and waving as though the largest Ocean. Likewise stood a young maiden whose figure was covered in a dress of clouds and her eyes as deep as the blue sky where the God of Air once was.
It was Death who was the last to change, an unwilling display of treachery he thought. But, from the darkness that is Death stood not a man, but a Beast. Disfigured was his visage, with horns extending from forehead to crook as much as the tusks that leapt from his chin. His eyes were blackened pupils swirling with hate and fury.
It was The God of Earth who stood before Death brandishing a lance of the Mountains. By his side was The Goddess of Water, her slender hands wrapped around the hilt of a sword of darkened water. The Goddess of Air cracked her whip of winds towards the Beasts visage, and in a roar of furry, Death staggered back.
Both Earth and Water drove their weapons within the pestilent skin of Death, their power coursing through the opened wounds and into the very being of the failing God. The Goddess of Air swung her whip around once more, destroying the other eye of the Beast before letting the air wrap around the creature's throat.
Death could do nothing, for as his mortal form was ripped and torn from the combined jabs and strokes of the Gods, his power seeped from the wounds as darkened crimson.
"Betrayers!" He wailed in his failing voice. "Know that Your death will come soon..." And just as the final, staggered breath passed his quivering lips, the God of Death vanished.
But, even the realm of Death would not hold its Creator. But, Death kept within his Realm, content with the malice and rage that burned within his core.
The Desired still gave life, and still life was taken from them. All but The Illuminated, the God of Life, walked the surface of Hostile, lavishing in the praise and the admiration that the Desired gave them.
The Deities forgot of their struggle, forgot of Death. They grew to accept It as a part of the lives of Mortals.
All but Death forgot in time, and even he, in his realm of darkness and fear, planned his deeds. He waited.
The Birth of the Demigods
It was the Glorious Age, when the Gods and mortals walked side by side and prosperity and peace reigned. The Desired marveled at the deeds the Gods could do. Every need that the Desired had was filled, but, as the Desired were given more and more, their needs gave way to indulgence and their simplistic nature fell to pleasures.
It was evident that some of the Gods were favored more by the Desired than others. The God of Earth willingly gave his body to the torturous ways of the plow. But, when the Desired begged and pleaded for the Goddess of Water to wash the soil of its drought and give the plants life, she would not. The God of Wind would willingly send a gentle breeze to cool the farmers that labored in their fields, but fire would ravage the whole of the clans homes, leaving their villages to be become ash that is carried away by the wind they so desperately prayed for.
Soon, the Desired that worshipped similar deities joined into bands, and these bands, under the grace and nurture of their Gods or Goddesses formed into great civilizations. But, as the number of Desired grew by the millions, so too did their wants, needs, and desires. The Gods that gave so willingly were taxed beyond their limits.
As the Desire's world prospered and flourished, the eternal forces that were governed by the Gods waned. Hundreds of trees were cut down everyday. Millions of homes used fire to cook and heat. The rivers, once as deep as a Desire's imagination, were nearly drained by the Desired-made canals and tributaries. But, it was the Earth that was completely devastated. Thousands of acres were tilled and plowed. Low hills and mounds were flattened and great gorges and holes were dug. The God of Earth felt every shovel dig great chunks from its very being. It was the God of Earth that faltered first.
Tired and weary, his power and control of the land nearly lost, the God of Earth, in his mortal form, returned to the Heavens and into the eternal palace of the God of Life. "Please, O Lord of Life, the One that gives. This Desired shell that we inhabit has led to my demise." The God of Earth sobbed, his voice, the once bellowing voice, barely audible. "Look now, your Cursed Brother takes as he sees fit. The lands are barren and millions die each new season."
The God of Life stood, his anger shaking his celestial palance and the Heavens to which he inhabited. "You wanted this. Was it I that chose for You a Desire's form? The fault is your own. If so many lives were not at stake, I would leave You to Your fate."
Within the God of lives' infinite wisdom, he pulled from the Desire's soul the essence of the God of Earth. Freed from his mortal prison, the God of Earth took hold of the savage land and tamed it.
As the God of Earth healed, so too did the Desired that once housed his essence. And as the God of Life grew in power, so too did the Desired.
It was in the God of Earths' cavern, his renewed palance of rock and soil, that the God acknowledged his protégé. "I shall call you Drien, and you shall forth into the world and be my Body, while I am the mind and the voice." Drien did as his God commanded, and was known throughout the land as a Demigod.
Each God and Goddess went to the Palace of Life and fell before the God of Life, begging and pleading for release, and just as He had did for the God of Earth, each of the Gods and Goddess was renewed.
Each God and Goddess named their Demigod and sent them into the lands as They once had.
Thank you,
Aranis
