Well, I'm about to do an essay for school, and as I was looking for a topic, I came across this. So, I thought, why not ask the people here? This isn't to help me with my research, but I'm just curious.

Are you proud to be an American? Why, or why not? It'll be nice if you give details, but it's not necessary. This is just america in general, so you can still be proud to be an American even if you dislike the government.

To those who aren't American, are you proud of your country? Why, or why not...

Proud to be a human being. Countries start wars, I say we form tribes and the losing tribe gets put into slavery, like the good ol days. BTW you know this thread's going to turn into:
American: America FTW!,
Aussie: No America SUCKS,
American: Ahhh WTF ever you aussie,
Aussie: Don't make me Kangaroo kick your ***!
British: Hey America, dump my tea into that ocean and i'll dump you into the next century
Aussie: Well who died and made you the Queen of England?
American: We didn't die, America FTW
Aussie and British: SHUT UP and go look for some non existant bombs..
Canada: I think we should discuss this over a nice stack of pancakes and maple syrup.
British: Don't make me get the french on your ***....

3, 2, 1!! LET THE CONTROVERSY... BEGIN

I am not proud to be a american in any way. Every time I walk out my door I see nothing but ignorant people acting like they're the shit talking nothing but shit. I want to move really bad to another country but doubt I'll ever be able to. I'm honestly nice and want to be well educated but in this country that seems impossible to do varying from the crappy teachers to the stupid kids going to school.. Kind of makes me sad too, I wanted and still want to do good in school just noone ever helps me not in public school nor homeschooling. I really want to get out of this country, find a nice foster family that will love and care for me and that I can also love and care for then get my life together.. America sucks *** and I want to move very badly.

@First Name: It might, but I'm going to hope that this community is going to be mature enough to handle a small discussion on if they like the country they are from.

Yes, I am proud to be an American. Why? Because I enjoy being able to say what I want(for the most part), and being able to practice my religion how I choose too. And as to our local Jesus, please don't generalize an entire country full of people based on only a few idiots. I've traveled all over this country, and most of the people I've met have been rather nice, though theres always a few idiots here and there.

Care to explain why? :hmm:

I'd love to. 200 years ago, people were fighting for something in the land that would eventually become the United States, freedom. To this day, that freedom is still available to any and all that want it, though some would argue differently. People before me, before the birth of my nation even, have died in the quest for that. I am proud, and very thankful, to say that I am free.

From America have come many great people. We have had many great leaders and heroes, men and women who put the good of the people before their very own lives. I am proud to associate myself with the likes of these people, who have died for their families, their friends, their beliefs, and those before and after them.

While we can attribute to our name more than our fair share of wrongdoings, we can also say that our nation has done many a good thing in it's history, too. I am proud to be able to say that we have saved lives, and improved living. Not for all, but for many.

I am proud to be able to look at all of the people around me, and say that we have something in common. We share no one religion, we are not all of one race, nor are any of us of a common ethical or political belief. What we can say we are, though, is Americans.

Do I think we are the best? No, I think there is, and never will be, a "best nation." Do I agree with everything my government does? No, and I am not expected to. Will that change my point of view? Will it take away my want to do what I can to better and preserve the lives and liberties of those around me? No, and I can safely say that there are many who stand with me when I say that.

That's why I'm proud to be an American.

yes I'm proud to be an American. Am I proud of where America is heading now or what we are currently doing? No. But if we were to take it back a few years I'd be completely content with being American.

One of the main reasons is that our Political system is just about as good as it's going to get. Of course there are flaws in every system (Electoral College, expensive lawyers), but from what I've seen and read the American government seems to have things right. Power is regulated throughout our three branches, and in the end who gives the power to the branches? the people.

Continuing, I also like the way laws were tailored to the American citizen. While it isn't entirely true, you can do whatever you want as long as you follow the citizens duties. A great example of this is Trey Parker and matt Stone making a cartoon which has Dick Cheney, GW and Osama Bin Ladin all crapping on the American flag.

Poppycock. They were fighting because they were tired of Britain's taxes. We should've put some serious embargoes on them so that we can send some people over and keep them in check - take their weapons, plows, etc. Plus all the people who make that crap. I bet the Native Americans would still be alive today, and the good ol' Queen would rule over all you bloody yanks. (j/k)

America, from what I see, is among the most ignorant of all countries. So First Name, lay off Jesu (spelling error is purposeful) please, he's just stating his opinion. I'll give you some reasons why America is ignorant...it's America. =/

Highlights it's minorities in demeaning ways (I.E.Affirmative Action (minorties are used to fill quotas in school and employment - whether they have skill or not).
Ignorant to other countries/continents.
Generalizes a set of people into one terminology (Very young children and very old folk sometimes refer to a person of Islamic (Muslim) heritage as a 'terrorist')
The phrase 'free' used by a country that isn't too 'free'.

If you don't agree with me, that's fine. But don't flame me for my listing - if not all, then half is true.
America + Clinton = PWNAGE!1!!1!1

But as of now....CANADA & ENGLAND FTW!!1!1

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every American heart,
and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

I'm from Singapore and I don't know if I am proud of my country or not... =.=

What I like about my country:
-Peace
-Freedom of Speech (The altered kind... but it's better then nothing.)
-Many system created by the government to give us better living.

What I hate about the government.
-Extremely low pay & wages. Our min pay is pathetic.
-Poorly done conscript army.
-Many of our rights have been altered and we're not such a free country.

But as compared to our neighbouring countries like Malaysia etc, we're pretty good already so thank god I am in Singapore... I guess I am still proud cos I am still alive and I'm in an ok situation.

You know when your playing a game and there is that one player that is a "questionable" hacker. He just runs around pwning the shit out of everyone, Then people start to yell HACKER,Cheater, exploiter ext ext.

I think you get where im going, And there is nothing NOTHING i can say to sway someone that truly hates. But a hater should take a closer look at just what they preach. You cant fight hate with Hate it only adds fuel to the fire hate feeds on hate.

Today on foxnews something brought a smile to my face. 70 out of 80 Terrorist dead and 0 U.S. Casualties. One word came to my mind "OWNED".

Id just like to say that you arent allowed true freedom of speech anymore. You can argue about it but listen to this.

A week ago i was visited my friends at school and a student yelled down the hall to the school cop "Z's (the officers name is officer Z) A PIG!" The kid ran out to me and some friends and said what he just did only 10 seconds later z arrested him for SAYING something. Than he brought the kid down the hall and the kid moved his hand and the cop SLAMMED his head into a metal powerbox. The kid no longer could walk with all the pain and was being dragged down the hall by his hair. From the point of that day from yesterday 15 people have reported it police brutality including me and nothing happened to the cop. In fact the kid was charged with police assualt and when i brang it up with the assistant principle she said i could be arrested if i didnt stop talking about freedom of speech (the damn *****). When a cop can beat you up for saying something and get away with it freedom of speech is gone.

So yea. Wheres our freedom of speech? The police department is taking turns wiping their asses with it.
