Fallout 1 and 2.

Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, including their various expansions.

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind or Oblivion, if you can run it. Or if you care to go further back, Daggerfall, or even Arena which you can get free, and LEGALLY so if you care to look around.

Vampire: The Masqurade: Redemption isn't bad.
Vampire: The Masqurade: Bloodlines is also great, if your computer can run it.

Arcanum is decent, though theres some bugs in it - though they might've been ironed out now. I never got to play with any patches or anything.

Wait around a month or so and Jade Empire will be out on the PC.
Dunno how it'll hold up, but it was pretty good on the Xbox.

S'pose I should mention both of the Knights of the old Republic games, they're on PC too right?

Hrm... I've heard mostly good things about Titan Quest.

I could go on forever, but last I'll mention is Freedom Force: The Third Reich.
Most of the above you could probably pick up cheap now, too. So woo.

and want to add Fable as well.

Play all of those and they would all give you roughly ... 5 months gaming time?

about Gothic series, i'm sorry, those games are the worst in the rpg business ever, the controls are EXTREMELY akward, the balance is totally disorientated, the gameplay is very bad and those games require a very advanced pc to play (be sure to check the review of gothic III on IGN, you'll know what i mean ...), as for those other games, I have fable myself, it's a wonderful game as you people are saying, it's more a 'hack and slash' while BG, NWN, Icewind Dale are true AD&D games (which are absolutely fantasic as well, those have a very good replay value), be sure to check out NWN2 on that behalf, and the future release of the Baldurs Gate remake-module for NWN2. The elder scrolls III and IV Oblivion are, again as you people say, wonderful RPG. Those really focus on the freedom of the world. however, where morrowind isn't that requiring anymore ( a nowadays system can run morrowind just fine), Oblivion needs a more high-lined system to run it in high detail. And vampire, i personally liked the Masquarade Redemption, but Bloodlines wasn't really loved by the public so much, due to several issues. Being very long load times (evn on high end system), some gameplay elements, and soforth, besides, it's again, quite demanding (it runs on Source engine, slightly modified)

My friend has Morrowind but I've heard the story is extremely hard to follow. I really wanna try out Fable. My other friend said that Titan Quest is supposedly the Diablo III we will never have, is that true?

Are there any RPGs on PC that are a lot like console RPGs? Like FF and the Tales/Star Ocean games? You know, realistic characters, a long, fun, sometimes emotional storylines, enjoyable battle system, that kind of stuff?

If you like NWN get Knights of the Old Republic I and II. They use the same engine as NWN. If you have a good computer go ahead and get NWN2. It has some rough edges, but they are all mostly technical issues. The story will keep you interested the whole time through most likely. KOTOR I and II are not hard on older computers at all. If you like really open ended games get Morrowind. If you think the graphics are bad there are some nice mods to fix those. Oblivion is nice if you have mods that fix it up a little. OOO 1.3 is a great example. Hope this helps.

I'm playing NWN2 right now and is very cool. Not a surprised since is based on 3.5 AD&D that is IMHO one of the best RPG rule - systems

3.5 is a good ruleset idd, but it has flaws, especially the immortal monk/fighter flaw .... anyway. About console type rpg's for pc. Yes, there area a few, being Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper(if you're interested in getting this game since it's hard to find, PM me), Fable (originally for Xbox) in january Jade Empire (if you're a real rpg fan, be sure you don't miss this one out!), Sudeki (mediocre and Starforce protected ....), Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition (this isn't a 'true' rpg, but it has quite a bit of rpg elements in it) And titan quest, i own that game myself. and yes, it's just diablo in 3D, in a roman setting (if you don't like roman settings, don't get this game, really. else you'll hate it all the ay through). Thing with TQ, it really needs a high end pc. the engine is poorly optimized if you ask me. they should have done better. it lags like hell when a lot of enemies are on the screen at the same time. and francly, the only place where that isn't the case is the spot where you begin the game .... other than that, i'll be crowded like hell.

I'm sick of RPGs like Diablo 2 and NWN, where you create a character and play your way through thr story alone. I want a game with more of a story, like the FF games, Tales games, and Star Ocean games. I'd prefer a fast-paced battle system like the Tales/Star Ocean games, but turned-based battles are ok, too.

BPMGAMER

Well, even though KOTOR I and II use the NWN engine it still is a faster paced game. You have plenty of people you meet on your journey that join you. The battles in KOTOR II are a little more flashy than KOTOR I, but they are both fun to watch. Also, all the dialog is spoken, so you wont spend a lot of time reading.

KOTOR actually sounds pretty fun, maybe I'll ask for it for Xmas or something. ^.^

'I'm sick of RPGs like Diablo 2 and NWN, where you create a character and play your way through thr story alone. I want a game with more of a story, like the FF games' this is a little bit contradictive don't you think. NWN and the all BG series are fully based on Story. But if you are looking for the more Final Fantasy type rpg. I suppose Sudeki (note that it's far from as good as FF and it's starforce protected and besides hard to find :) these days ,you're best chance is looking for it the less legal way ...) and turn based rpg's like FF, i can only come up with one, being Grandia II for pc. but 'unfortunately' the only way of getting that one is also the less legal way . i can't say i've seen it being sold over the past year

gotta agree with a few people here, knights of the old republic 1 and 2 were very good, great story line too.
