I dont know about the stick figure thing, the phrases thing, and kind of the stubborn thing, but the rest fit me. I know I'm not special but I want to be way diffrent from everyone else.

Is this some kind of post where you brag about your "special" talents that almost everyone with common sense will achieve with just a bit of practice?

If so, keep going.

(Just a small word of advice, if you are "overgifted" at least learn how to type properly. Thanks.)

The reason it will fit you is because they are such broad topic that they can fit almost any one. It is like horoscopes. Any ways there are a lot of gifted children out there, I was accepted into the gifted school but didn't go because I didn't want to leave my friends.

what how come drawin stick men tell that the child is gifted

Jabor_
12-21-2006, 09:30 PM
Drawing stick people clearly - achieved at age 1.5
Writing clear phrases - Age 4
Writing speeches/short stories - Age 6

Really, those magazines are just written to make people feel good about themselves - "OMFG! I have an "overgifted" child! I'm tho speshal!"

Speaking of which:
Completed 7th form - age 16.
Accepted into International Chemical Olympiad training group - age 16.

And so on.

So..I'm not a freak?
That's a relief :).We are all freaks!I could probably have better grammar but i'm not english, didn't have any classes while i was smaller and i learned my english from video games.
And no,i don't want to expose i'm a "omfg genious i'm gifted".I felt realy confused and i knew people at ONRPG would be as equal as myself. So,i'm glad i read you're comments.I don't feel as bad.

Lol same here.. and it was too far away. >.>

Remember magazines and the media just like to make you feel a special way. Draw stick people? What the heck, anyone can.

I have an IQ of 182, but I put in zero effort in everything I do.. so I suck. xD

So either my school sucks, or I am absolutely freakin' awesome.

I reckon it's the latter.

I believe that it's not the amount of brains you have, but how much effort you put into things. For example, just because you have an IQ of over 200 doesn't mean you're better then others. I believe that it's the amount of dedication you give forth.

You can go against me beliefs, but I think that IQ tests are stupid. Frankly, I don't care how smart someone is. Just because they have better brain power then others doesn't mean that they are better. With all these 'gifted and talented' programs, those who aren't in them might feel that they're stupid. But their not...

the human brain is a big mystery, but I believe anyone could do whatever they want if they put their mind to it. When it comes down to things, your memory, your 'smartness' and everything else is all controlled by your brain. If we could have better control over it then we do nowadays, why, everyone could be geniuses.

Peace Man.. xD I got accepted for IB with an 84% average today. LOL. It's this program that's international for really really smart people, they have it all over the world.. if you look you'd find one in your city.. very likely.

Watch me fail in it.. =D

Amen to that, man. It doesn't matter how naturally gifted you are, if you don't put any effort into what you do, the average Joe is going to surpass you in anything.

iCeyWoLF
12-21-2006, 11:40 PM
Lol that's what I'm saying.. I know I'm smart. Haha I'm not being vain about myself, it's the fact.. I just don't care about anything.. and when it comes to trying hard. I just don't do it. But I've got a good brain and talk my way out of EVERYTHING.

I know a friend that's a complete retard... but she puts 100% into everything she does. Her result is not always the greatest, but she gets everything done to her best. When it comes to explaining for a presentation, she doesn't have to stand up there and BS (which is what I do) she just says what she really thinks.

I think, that I would drop all my intelligence, for an attitude like that.

The IQ test is only one of many means of quantifying intelligence. Noone expects it to be perfect, nor completely accurate in terms of predicting success. When you're dealing with an entire population, there have to be standardized measures of organization (SATs, IQ tests...) because it's practically impossible to truly put every individual in perfect perspective. The IQ test was originally invented, after all, to differentiate between the "dull" and the "bright" students in the French school system. It does, however, have a bad tendancy to go to a person's head.

the human brain is a big mystery, but I believe anyone could do whatever they want if they put their mind to it. When it comes down to things, your memory, your 'smartness' and everything else is all controlled by your brain. If we could have better control over it then we do nowadays, why, everyone could be geniuses.

That's an admirably humanistic view, but 'smartness' is less controlled by the brain than the brain is controlled by 'smartness'.

Efforts to quantify intelligence have both helped put the capabilities and potential of the human mind in perspective but have also given people opportunities to show off just how very "intelligent" they are. Of course, intelligence is completely relative depending on what you're looking for in a person.

The annoying thing is when people judge their own capabilities. Inherently, we are biased for or against ourselves. As Lothia said, categorizations are frequently broad or ambiguous.

And I've heard of "gifted child", but where the hell does "OVERgifted child" come from? Is there something excessive about being gifted?

Oh,look!Pamela has big boobs! But then,at the turning of the page i see a title saying:
"Overgifted children" and it showed this "overgifted" girl.

So i start reading. At the age of 2,this girl made stick people, perfectly clearly. At the age of 6,she could write entire phrases! So,i remembered my mom once told me i could make stick people at the age of 2 or 3.I got kind of this weird sensation..You know, like i'm a freak of Nature!I kept reading and each thing i read perfectly fit me...

-Good sense of humour
-Mature for his age (Sometimes,i can be quite a 4 year child tough)
And the list goes on...

And the negative effects also fit me!

-Asks too much of himself and others around him/her
-Hard to be pleased.
-Very stubborn and everything that can not be seen by his/her eyes is a rejected idea...
List also goes on.

The more i read, the more it kept fitting me!Perfect domain in foreign languages, good grades...

From this i've concluded i'm a "overgifted" child...I feel like i'm a freak of nature...A mutant brain and a buffed up inteligence...
It has it's good sides..Atleast i can say i'm smarter than someone else :p .

Congrats, you just labeled yourself as "gifted" because you fit a wide array of non-specific bullshit. You, and every other child on the planet, will fit this profile to a certain degree.

Lol, judging by your grammar and spellings (And don't say "I was typing too quickly" or some BS like that, because You must've repeated the same mistake close to 50 times, in one case) you sir, are not gifted.

Anyways, being gifted can mean many different things. For example; you could be very good at music and understanding the compositions at a young age, but suck at learning languages.

I myself, am good at mathematics, but my spoken tongue isn't great (I get my words mixed up sometimes). But although my spoken tongue isn't well, my English writing is excellent. My work has been published several times as debate articles, poems and stories.

Some people are born with it, some people develop it.

And for those of you who feel intimidated because their personality doesn't match the 'Guide' that Darc provided, God wraps gifts in different packaging ;)

OP:
Don't take the article too seriously. Scientific studies, especially those relating to anything psychological (as appears to be the case here)... are often extremely inaccurate, silly things. The whole affair is just almost completely flawed.

Keep in mind that something as subjective and qualitative as intelligence is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to accurately assess according to a few attributes listed in a random magazine you picked up. Now, if the magazine was a well-respected scientific journal, I might think twice. But then, few (if any) scientific journals feature Pamela Anderson, so I think that this wasn't the case this time around.

Also, your retort to Atom's post strikes me as extremely immature and childish. You aren't instantly cool on the Intarweb because you ripped on some random guy with insults you taken from image macros or 4chan or wherever. Remember, just because you're on the Internet doesn't mean you should be a dick to someone, even if they were mean to you first.

Can't tell.Left the magazine in my grandpa's house.But,it might.

this shows your cunning intelligence quite clearly. I used to be like "you," though i doubt a magazine test is very reliable. Yeah, i went to enrichment math in grade four. whoopee. It was actually pretty cool, I had a friend in it, but somehow I feel like I've grown steadily dumber. according to modern science, You slowly lose the capability to learn as you get older, hence small children's ability to learn much of the English language in a single year, but adults spending years learning how to speak another language. Perhaps the most hateful part is that I can almost feel my ability being locked away, i can no longer grasp any math concept in a moment, I no longer have a hugely above average vocabulary, the only thing giving me the illusion of brilliant is my knowledge of trivia; I whip out facts that are completely obscure, and can scramble words easily in my head, giving me a gift with word puzzles (except word searches) The only class I excel at only requires a high interest level. I've become average, and I am mind numbingly depressed at times because of this. yes, I am a conceited bastard.

So,i went over to my grandpa's house.I was so bored since nothing was on T.V,i started to read a magazine.

First off, to Darc,

“Ego has a voracious appetite, the more you feed it, the hungrier it gets.”

--------------------------------------------------

I'm going to purely speak my mind here. If you take offence, in any way shape or form, I really wont care, it's my view, and you should be willing to take in input. That being said, those who see themselves to be "gifted," are. To the modern extent, I see everyone to be gifted in one form or another. One of the greater points to this effect is a quote by Ethel Waters," We are all gifted. That is our inheritance." To that idea, we all have our gifts, granted to us from how we are raised, our birth, and other life altering things; so in essence, et cetera. Those who see themselves to be more then gifted, if humanly possible, are nothing more then individuals with an ego possibly larger then the state of texas. You took a test, one that wasn't carefully selected or "brilliantly designed," you just took a basic test to keep you reading the particular magazine/newspaper and be more interested in what they had to say. The modern individual can "pass" (if their childhood grants them the supposed pass) that test, and if they don't, it really proves to no affect other then the fact that they may be one year ahead of everyone else at building pointless and nugatory stickfigures. Great, that child made a stickfigure at age two; where does it say that he's a genius, if anything he'd be one year assisted towards being an artist.

One more thing to add, who are they to depict who and what a genius is?

I would write more, but Battlefield 2142 is a callin'.

P.S. Oh and Simon, A) You rock, B) Get back to work on BOF! Sheesh. Now that I think about it, I need to get back to work on that as well. :P
