Is there anything like D-Bugged or other 2D game engines for free that are for the Mac? I really want to make an MMORPG, but my PC doesn't have Internet access. So I need something that will work on a Mac.

Simon, I think Elisium Diamond is for PC's.

Force, I found a good site, but so far, none that I've found have really worked. Only my Mac has Internet access, and that's what I'm on right now. The PC is only used for playing games. But not most MMORPG's. :(

My dad won't let me. He doesn't want to have to buy a bunch of other antivirus and spyware protection. And I don't want to lose all my games and files.

Plus, I only have 1 PC.

Wow. I didn't think you needed anti-virus software on a Mac.... That just seems counter-productive.

The PC, though, you can easily find very useful free anti-virus stuff.

His problem remains as finding a 2D game engine for Mac, however, not trying to be coaxed into changing over to a PC. :)

@Rabid: By 'game engine', are you referring to a library/API for a certain programming language (which is really what a game engine is), or a 'game creator' program that essentially creates a game around what information/parameters you give it? There's a world of difference between the two, so it's best to make sure before we try to guide you in either direction. ;)

Well, I just started so I'm not sure of the terms.

I guess I'm looking for more of a game creator. What I really want is something that's simple, like a point and click thing that you can create a game with. I have D-Bugged for the PC, where you get a blank map, you type /mapeditor into the chatbox, and you get a bunch of tilesets that you can use to create a map.

@MisterPoppet: My family and I have used Macs since they came out and we're not going to depend on PC's just now. If something goes wrong with the PC, we blame Bill Gates. :) You don't need antivirus software for the Mac, so that's why my dad doesn't want a PC connected to the Internet, and he won't trust free software.

You're going to be in for a tough search then. The number of free game creators is already a pretty low amount, and virtually all of them are Windows-based. :-/

First off, it's "Elysium".

Second off, I don't "get around". I just "enjoy multiple partners".

Thirdly, sorry, Elysium Diamond has not been found to work with Macs. We've got a tutorial on how to get it to work with Linux, but that's it.

I don't use Mac, but maybe try BootCamp if your computer supports it.

I think I'm going to get BootCamp when I get my own computer but I don't know if my dad's going to disable Internet access for when it's in Windows mode. If he doesn't, then I'll be able to just use other stuff.

why won't elysium work on mac? if it could work on linux than i would think it could on mac as well (it is BSD after all). especially on the new intel-based macs (you need one of those to run boot camp).

i also find it hard to believe that you can't get around that little internet block on windows machine. i have yet to see a password-locked network thingy. unless he did it from the router. your really shouldn't be paranoid about things like that. it seems that if he knows how to block the internet, then he would know that there are good, free solutions to keeping bugs and virises out.

Well, like I said, I don't know how Mac or Linux works. But, somebody got Wine to work with Elysium and they say it's for Linux.

MisterPoppet

ah... nevermind then. Wine is a windows emulator. Chances are you are using components that are windows specific. If everything was all cross-platform, you could just take the source code and stick it on a linux and mac machine and just compile. At least, that's what I'm told.

why not try BYOND, its incredibly easy, you do have to learn its scripting language though, not that hard at all.
