I played an MMORPG a number of years ago (probably around 1999). It was a military game with free registration (though it was a trial). I believe it was browser based, but it might not have been. Your area was surrounded by an energy barrier. It was based on an entire planet, and on the website they showed a map of the planet with which parts were being used.

Any idea what this was?
