I'm kind of out of options with security. I definitely need to clean up, but I can't get a program you have to buy. Are there any free ones worth using just to scan? I'm mainly looking into antispyware. Our antivirus is good for now.

Well Norton has a free trial of their software if you want just a scan and I am also looking for a good free one too

The only good freeware scanners I know of are AVG and possible Avast!

I second AVG, it works pretty well. Adaware is also decent. ZoneAlarm is a good firewall if you dont feel like scanning all the time.

A few months ago I was referred to Avira AntiVirus.
Let me tell you. Works like a charm - even picked up some shit avast couldn't.
I have to advise you against ZoneAlarm, though. It's spyware. Turns out, the FireWall monitors the websites you go to, even after you've chosen not for it to do that, and sends the information straight to ZoneLabs.

If you haven't scanned your computer in a long time, I suggest spending some time, and download the free trials for NOD32 as well as the free trials for Kaspersky. They will get rid of most of the viruses that you'll have. Then, stick to AVG, or an AOL anti-virus. (I forgot the name of the AOL Anti-Virus; but it's pretty good. I know your thinking 'But it's AOL", but from what I hear, it uses the same virus detection database as Kaspersky.

I use Spybot Search & Destroy. I guess its basically the same thing as Ad-aware which is also pretty good. If you got a pretty fast computer you can scan every day and it wont take too long, if your really cautious.

i've tried, all the good high brand antiviruses such as norton antivirus, mcafee, and all that other crap but i don't think theres any that's better than KASPERSKY.
http://www.kaspersky.com/
it comes with a 30 day trial but i'm sure you can do system restore back 30 days or you could just get a crack or some shit idk.

CRACK CRACK CRACK!!! XD My friend told me norton is shit since it deletes some of your files without telling you -.- and he said kaspersky was good.. so i guess i would recommend AVG or Kaspersky. I wouldn't recommend ZoneAlarm either.. SO FCKING ANNOYING!! RAWRWRWRWR!!

You might want to be careful with that... My parents use Windows Defender, and when I came to visit them; they said their computer was acting funny. I scanned it with Kaspersky and NOD32. Found over 72 different types of Viruses. I really don't recommend using Windows Defender.
@Magnific3nt: System Restore isn't going to give you back the 30 days free trial... I don't know where you heard that. Also, I've heard that some of the newer viruses spawn back during System Restore so I don't recommend it.

so what if zonelabs know what pornsites i visit on a regular basis, always taking the free tour with no intention of ever joining. ad-aware is spyware too most of those programs are. doesnt always mean they are malicious.

It also never fully uninstalls from your computer, and keeps surveying the websites you go to. Since most anti viruses consider this harmless, it goes unchecked.
So ZL could go as far as even recording your passwords, too.
And I doubt Ad-Aware is spyware. I've yet to see any signs of unwanted transactions.
