macs are normaly used in large graphics companys cos macs boast that they don't get viruses... the only reason for this being cos know one uses the bloody things so hackers don't bother targeting them, actualy you'll find a mac d/l for about 50% of games but i'm not sure which ones as i wouldn't poke a mac with a 10ft barge pole...

people realy need to get there heads out of there back end about macs. they are great computers. i have run both mac and windows for several years and almost never have a problem with my mac crashing. i have had to reinstall my windows os 3 times in one year. A mac and pc of equaly prossesin power, graphics and ram will be arund the same price, maybe a little less for the mac. PC can custamize bettre then a mac but thats where alot of the unstability comes from. If it works in a mac then well it works, with all th diferant companys macing hardware for pc to any standerd macs windows harder to run. not all pc parts work well together.
if someone wants to buy and use a mac and has a question why not try and actualy help them instead of just ignorantly trying to flame them and always saying pc pc pc pc pc pc pc.
more and more games are comeing out for mac every year. and blizzard has always made games fr mac and pc, so has simcite and i bielave all of the sim games but cant be sure. Adobe was also a mac produce before a pc producte.
there are some mmo rpgs for mac but i havent found one i like yet besides WOW. if i do find one i will let you know.
stop the computer hate....i have a dream one day pc and mc will live together....stop telling the mac users to get to the back of the gameing bus.

Go to a local mac store to buy games. Most are strategy games. And if your gf has a G5 she has a really powerful computer. And Rune Scape(even though its not to good) works for mac.

Dear god, man. What the hell.
You know, if you're going to attempt to come to a computer manufacturers aid, at the very least, know how to type. Fingerback, you put Macintosh back a few spots with that post.
Anyway, I'll be perfectly honest. i use a Macintosh. It's not a particularly good machine, just an old iBook G3. Still runs Panther. But anyway, I'll get straight to the point, there are some things Macintosh machines run well, and other things that they cannot run to save their lives, I mean--
Just a second... Adobe? Why would you bring up Adobe? PS has been multiplatform for quite a while.
Okay, just had to address that.
How Mac's download and install applications has to be one of the most redundant and horrendously inefficient processes it has ever been my displeasure to encounter.
START:
Download a .sit (Stuffit) file from a webpage.
Decompress said .sit, where you get a .dmg (DiskImage)
Mount said .dmg, and go into Finder.
Find the Mounted disk as a Removable-Media-Type and open it.
Drag the .app contained within into your Applications folder.
Open your Applications folder, find the .app and run it.
If that wasn't bad enough, now you've got about three extra instances of that program that you need to go and clean up after the fact. First eject the Mounted Disk, then delete the .dmg, and .sit. THEN you can use your program.
Macintosh does do a few things correctly though. Like how an application is really an executable folder. So when you delete that application, it's DELETED. You don't have orphaned files and garbage like that laying around. The only other thing you'd need to do is delete your Preference file, if you want it completely gone. Which is simple enough. Go into Library>Preferences, find the application name (with a .plist attached) and delete it. DONE.
In terms of how there's a yearly OS, that just shows that Macintosh is a subscription, with a 129 USD yearly charge.
I have no idea what I'm doing here... Waiting for PlaneShift to finish downloading...

I rather use ms-dos instead of a mac. Macs are not for gaming, they just do everything (except gaming) like windows but a lot worse... they have all those GAY commercials about mac being better then windows buts its all a big scam. YOU HEAR ME? IT'S ALL A BIG SCAM.

Alright. So if I was to say half of you are idiots I'd hope your not offended. This post was made by the guy because he wants to know games. Not what is better or not better. So get a grip on yourselves.
He has a PC.
Got it?
His girlfriend has a Mac.
Got it?
He wants to know Free RPG games for a Mac. So do I. I need it for my friend who has a pc but can't pay for games easily. She wants to play with me but of course Mac holds me back. Now rather than argue which is better or who should have what so on so forth, just answer the question. Not too hard is it?
Runescape
WoW (Costs)
I'd see if you can bring Install disks for D2 and such.
Everquest rumor has it.
I heard Guild Wars works but also money.
Most these games are money costing.
Now...I apologize but I'm about to rant a bit more.
I have 2 computers.
A mac laptop for graphics work and such and a PC for gaming.
Before we start whining...
I'm happier with my Mac. PC is a custom built with a friend and we've been doing it for years. I work as a Hardware software supporter for my University.
Mac > PC. Not necessarily True nor PC > Mac.
You can break it down and such into advantages and disadvantages.
But you want my opinion?
PC is going to die badly with Microsoft being as crappy as it is. More games as one person noted, are being made for Macs. Why? It's getting used more and more. Sure no viruses at current and they'll come. But there is also Antivirus software. Oh well that takes care of Viruses. Stop complaining stop whining stop arguing. They are both computers, and eventually both will be capable of doing the other. Though I think the OS system is where Microsoft will lose out.
For my good friend. Lastly this is the best direction I have for you to head.
http://www.onlinegamesinn.com/
Check it out. They list platform requirements so you don't have to download or anything to check to see if it works for your Mac. Best I can do. Good luck and I'll check back for any helpful posts.

Okay I have to agree with VincentNs.
But I have to admit that when I was a little kid I would complain about how all my friends would have a windows and how we had a Mac, and also on how I wanted a windows just because of cool games. My view changed greatly though when I got older because well at my school I would have to use windows all the time, and lets just say it got annoying when the program kept shutting down when your doing a paper or something without saving ( I know I should have saved but that's not the point here).
Also at my friends house one time we were burning Cd's and she was using itunes on a windows because she has an ipod. Well she asked her dad how to download the songs onto the CD, and her Dad said to just push the burn button. She was shocked, that was all she had to do. I would to if i was her because I have seen her download stuff before and she had to go through all these files, it personally looked like a pain in the *** to me.
I do admit though that they do have better games and business software but the new mac took care of that. So all they have is just games. So, honestly if you keep complaining that windows is better because they have games, please grow up because when you go into these forums and just keep saying games, games, games, you sound like complete dick, and your embarassing yourself. I also feel a deep pity for you because it just shows how naive and stupid you are too, because if it's games you want go out and buy a PS3, Xbox360 or an Wii because that's what they were made for.

i came upon this discussion by accident, just had to register...
I am a mac user, and I'm really sorry you don't know how to use yours.
The proceddure you just declared is equivalent to unpacking a winrar to a folder, executing a setup from there, and then finding the program you want through the windows icon, programs, etc...except! you can do that more efficiently on the mac:
you can configure stuffit to erase a rared or whatever directory after getting it's contents. You can then open the dmg with douple click and simply 'drag and drop' your new application into your mac. If it's a good installation file, you basically drop it into your mac and your ready to go, no need to mount or anything else.
Anyways, now about the yearly cost...have you noticed how much windows costs? More, how many good free applications does windows have? I'll bet most of you use winrar and whatnot, but lemme also guess: you didn't pay for it, although you're supposed to? as well as many other programs. So basically, if you didn't have pirated software, videos, etc on your pc...do the math ;)
Further, the latest Mac operating system doesn't eat up your resources like vista (or even XP for that matter), so basically, with the same computer hardware, you get better performance out of a Mac (last year, among laptops, Macs had the best rates running windows - LOL).
The problem with macs is games, yes, although there are more and more with each passing year, and it runs wow, so I'm happy lol.
oh, btw, to the mac users: get and try Quicksilver or Buttler - it will change your lives and forever make your windows experience frustrating - seriously, I now find windows completely slow - i do, launch and basically do anything with a touch of a couple buttons, it's beautiful and effective ;)
I do have a laptop at home, since I like to play games, but I work a lot with computers, just ending my computer sciences masters thesis, so yeah, i couldn't live without my macbook, makes work a lot easir and faster.
cheers guys, and don't flame it before you try it ;)
(PS: even installing cracked games is easier on the mac lol)

There is one game not mentioned here, though it's not a traditional MMORPG. Second Life, www.secondlife.com. It is a huge game (takes space) but the graphics are very cool (in my non-gaming opinion), it's all other real users, and you can go to free concerts, dances (um, ok, virtual dances are a bit lame but whatever), areas of ill repute, supposed MMORPG communites though I haven't seen them, and it has war areas for those of you who want to blow each other up.
For those of you with simplistic gaming needs, there is also Pirates of the Caribbean online, the basic membership is free. http://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates/v3/#/news/currentnews.html
It is very simple and completely addictive. Create an avatar, run around and fight undead skeletons, sink ships with cannons after crewing up, and complete missions to get better. Even maxing out your character with basic, you still have fun crewing up with other people and being a right scallywag!
On the PC/Mac debate: I have a business degree and yet I use a Mac, but I'm not a huge gamer and they have Guitar Hero so I don't need anything else. I do a lot of video work and there is nothing to compare to iMovie (in my opinion). But overall, having worked with both systems throughout school, it just depends what you use it for. I am not a computer whiz and I find Mac exceedingly simple and easy and reliable and had nothing but trouble from my PC. But if I were to run a business anywhere outside of the film industry (where everyone has a Mac) I would use a PC because of the software. And if I were a gamer I would use PC. Anyway, there is no solution to that so hopefully my previous suggestions may help some of you other Mac users looking for cheap ways to play games and interact with other people.

I've run an apple for decades and recently installed windows XP on the mac and run them at the same time using windows parallel. That may be a solution for you. Another fun thing to do is run an emulator and play all those old NES, Genesis, SNES games, PS, etc games. Apple.com has a list of games you can purchase as well. As for free, well what do you expect in an mmorpg? You get what you pay for. Get a PS3 and FFXII Problem solved. ;)

A good mmo is called Vista. You basically install it and begin doing quests. For every quest you get points. Once you've mastered it, you can become a boss and try to pk other players with malware.
I like vista.

Hi just wanted to say you all are wrong.
This post is about MMORPGs for macs.
What has not been mentioned yet is
Vendetta - Space MMO
A Tale in a Desert
EVE Online - another space MMO
Minions of Mirth
Toontown Online
Worldwar II Online
MUDS!!!! - one of my favorites is awakenedworlds.net(port 4000)
Nethack being a rogue derivative isn't an MMO but its a great RPG that has a graphical representation.
I just realized that you can of course use the Apple Dev tools that are included on your mac or on your mac os x dev tools disc to compile the software yourself if you can obtain the source code. (Apples site also hosts the Xcode software.)
And finally Wine works on x86/x86_64 macs with minimal tweaking and its very realistic to boot windows and/or *nix (os x for granted :P) on the same machine or virtualize it.
Cheers hope I was helpful.

WOW... It shows how little people know about computers. To those of you that feel the need to bash MAC... Try using one. I own and run both a MAC and a PC. Though it is true that the selection of games may not be as great as PC but there is no way that ANY PC is put together nearly as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that with MAC's newest operating system (Leopard) us MAC users are able to run ANY MAC or WINDOWS application. Unfortunatly, for those of you that are still using antiquated PC's, you have no clue about how well built MAC's are, as well as the ease of learning and quality of the product. I have very little trouble keeping my MAC running and even though it is a few years old now it STILL boasts better sound, video, and all the little add-ons that MAC includes in it's one price for everything makes the value go way beyond anything that a PC or WINDOWS can/could offer. The next time someone asks for a little help try giving some help instead of insulting them...
Also, to answer the original question - World Of Warcraft, and Everquest are two good MMO's. But if you are looking for something free try any of the following :Shadowbane, WWII Online, Clan Lord, Lineage, A Tale In The Desert, Minions Of Mirth, Vendetta Online or Second Life. Honestly, can't say much more than you get what you pay for with the freebies but if you just want to kill some time they are certainly good for that. Enjoy

I can run winblows, osx and Linux from the same computer, and still have a more stable machine than I ever could with a pc.
But I think it is very common that people goes in offensive mode when they really don't have any defense left. Or never had any...

The MBP I currently use is 9 months old, and it hasn't crashed more than once, which was when i ran winblows for the first time.
I use it every day for at least 9 hours, and I only have to restart it once a week.
The PowerBook I had before never crashed.
In comparison, my three pc's crashes at least 2 times in a week.

This post has actually been pretty helpful. My boyfriend just bought Warhammer, and I made a character on his account and just started playing. Having never played an MMORPG before, and owning a Macbook, I wanted to see if there was anything I could get for free for my computer... I'll try looking up the things other people have listed here. :O
As for this ongoing war about PC vs. Mac, the only conclusion I have come to is that it's entirely user preference. It depends on what OS you yourself prefer, and it depends on what you want to use your computer to do. Myself, I don't have a preference. I've owned PCs that have crashed unexpectedly and I've owned Macs that have crashed unexpectedly. I like the Macbook I have now, and I like the OS, but the next computer I buy is going to be a PC. I've owned my laptop for a year - a month after I got it, I had to reinstall the OS. And then about three weeks ago (around my laptop's first birthday), everything crashed again; turns out my logic board decided to kick the bucket and had to be replaced. So yeah, Macs or OS X aren't perfect, but hey, neither are PCs or Windows. It's user preference.

mac is an OS right?
haven't actually seen this OS IRL so i really don't know the difference XD
If your macintosh have an intel-based processor, you can install Windows XP by partitioning your hard drive and boot it like a real pc with BootCamp. Direct3D and OpenGL are working great so you'll can run all PC MMO's on it.
If not intel-based processor, try Parallel it has a 3D-Accelerator engine that use your graphics acceleration.
2swift4steel:
macs are normaly used in large graphics companys cos macs boast that they don't get viruses... the only reason for this being cos know one uses the bloody things so hackers don't bother targeting them, actualy you'll find a mac d/l for about 50% of games but i'm not sure which ones as i wouldn't poke a mac with a 10ft barge pole...
Yes you're right Macintosh is based specially for professionnal graphics products and is the best computer for printing systems and video editing.

heres what you do.
step 1. smack the mac with a baseball bat
step 2. blame it on hoodlums in the neighbor hood.
step 3. get a pc
step 4. don't worry about compatibility (except system requirements) again.

ok, shut up and listen for ten seconds of your lives.
yes, I own a Mac and I have more games on this damn thing then I care to count.
its a 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, I got it a year ago and I shit you not it hasn't crashed once.
its played UT 2004 at the highest graphics setting with no lag at all, and thats saying something.
my point here is, Macs are really great computers, Im not saying its better than a PC because Iv never used a PC in my entire friggin life, that being said I guess Iv been "missing out", as far as Im concerned, the only thing Iv been missing out on is the blue screen of death.
oh yeah, and as far as I can tell, most of your info about macs is wrong, every app Iv ever loaded on my comp has worked fine, oh and another thing, if you download a windows app, it will show up as a zipper-brick wall thing and wont compile.
so, stop the flaming, start helping, this guy wants a simple answer, if you dont know anything about it, DONT SAY ANYTHING.
either way, Iv got nothing. sorry buddy but the only mmos I can think are online, no downloads.
p.s. dont bother replying to this comment, I just made the account to set things straight here.

Except it's his GIRLFRIEND'S mac, and unless he wants to be known as Guy Who Broke His Girlfriend's Laptop to Play Video Games, second only to Guy Who Accidentally Backhanded His Girlfriend Because of a Shiny Pidgey, he probably shouldn't follow your advice.
