i'm confused:-/. i have a few questions:
are the other guild wars games expansions or other whole games?
whats the difference between the game of the year edition, regular edition and other editions of the guild wars games?
Is it true that you can link accounts together to combine the characters made and get 2 more character slots?
why are the prices in stores still $50 for the older versions of guildwars?
I hope you can clear these questions up for me.thanks.

1.They are hole games.
2.different versions have different stuff in the box.
3.Yes
4. People still buy them why make the price lower?

Well if you look at ebgames.com and look at the special editions it should say what you get thats extra.

With the special and collecters edition in such, you usually get little novelty things like a map and a soundtrack of music from the game and such. I think the GoTY version gets you 6 special weapons in-game. (one for each class)

Standard Editions vs Collector's Editions
There's minipets too -- a Kuunavang (sp) for Factions CE and Varesh for Nightfall CE. There's renewed interest in pets since you could show them in towns now.
Also, there's something added onto the dance (or all?) emotes. For Prophecies CE it was a divine aura thingy which makes your hands glow. Factions and Nightfall CE had /dancenew with added animation or new dances.
Buying a Prophecies Game of the Year (GOTY) edition (or upgrading your standard-edition online) also gives you 7 weapons for the prophecies professions: a warrior-shield & hammer, ranger-flatbow, and one each of wands/staves/offhands for the mesmer, elementalist, monk and necromancer. While not really overpowered, they can do the job while you're out looking for better equipment. Plus you can give them to your heroes :)
Ah yes, there's an art book, and a map, and skill pins all available in CE's. It's better to look at the official website or even at ebgames (got my Nightfall CE there) for a rundown of what other extra stuff there is.
Store prices
Our local official GW distributor now sells standard-edition Prophecies for US$20, Factions for US$36, and Nightfall for US$48. At special gaming events they do promos like US$30 for the first two chapters, or US$90 for all three.
Local gaming shops, on the other hand, still sell all chapters at the standard retail prices, or at $49.99. It's all in the marketing, I guess.
Expansion / account linking
There are currently 3 guild wars chapters now, each is "stand-alone" meaning you can get one and play it even without the other two. They are not considered expansions by this definition because expansions need the original, "part 1" game for the expansion to run. In guild wars, you can buy and still play a chapter 2 account without chapter 1 and 3.
Your gameplay experience is however greatly increased when you buy additional chapters and link them onto your existing account. Your character can then travel from his land of origin (say chapter 2 in our example above) to the lands in chapter 3 and 1, getting access to these new lands' skills, armor, weapons and pets. Linking a chapter gains you two additional slots, not four if you were to make a separate account.

yeah well prophecies is the GAME. the shizznet [lol]
it includes the core characters, factions includes the core characters and the ritualist and the assassin. nightfall includes all core characters and the dervish and paragon. [not the assassin and ritualist, they're born in cantha, aka factions.] the most YOU CAN BUY IT FOR is about 50 bucks. the least is near 35 bucks. the difference between the editions is practically some include some posters, some fancy crap, some also include GREEN ITEMS, the best items you can get. thats practically it : ]
