Acclaim Games Unveils the 'Top Secret' MMOG Project
Los Angeles (February 23, 2007) - Acclaim Games and video game industry superstar David Perry have partnered to present the ground-breaking "Top Secret" project. In this project, players actually get an opportunity to participate in the entire video game development process from start to finish.
In an unprecedented move for the game industry, these players will be given a chance to have their work featured in a massively multiplayer PC game that will be published by Acclaim and directed by David Perry. Perry will choose a winner from the contributors, and Acclaim will be giving them a breath-taking prize, 'A Video Game Industry Directorship', working on a new fully-funded massively multiplayer online PC game. David Perry will be their Executive Producer to help them as needed on their game, and once they complete their project, they will even earn royalties from the game sales!
"I've always loved the idea that someone, from their bedroom, reveals their passion and talent, then suddenly can have an absolutely stunning career explosion, becoming a famous Game Director with a pre-built fan base. We're going to make it happen!" says David Perry who is a Game Director and Chief Creative Officer for Acclaim Games.
David Perry will be building the new online game from scratch and is offering members of the Acclaim player community a rare opportunity to help him develop this video game in a collaborative effort with some of the industry's best talent. "We will bring in some surprise guests along the way to inspire and mentor the contributors," says Perry.
One lucky winner who shines the most during the development process will be given the top prize. "This is the only chance I know of to jumpstart a directorship career in the video game industry," continues Perry. "Everyone wins. They get to learn how to make professional games, and if they get anything in, they get a real professional credit on their resume." Perry finishes, "But, if they win, well then they get their life changed."
Interestingly, applicants don't need any prior game development experience. In fact, Perry refuses to look at resumes. "We only care about the pure, focused, passionate talent they show up with," he says.
"Top Secret is like 'The Apprentice' meets 'American Idol' meets 'The Video Game Industry'. We're giving our players a chance to work on an online game that we will actually develop and publish. Our community really loves these games and knows what it takes to make a hit. And it will be a dream come true for one lucky star that shines the most throughout the project," says Acclaim CEO Howard Marks.
This is a first-of-its-kind project from the new Acclaim, a resurrected company with a very well known name. The new Acclaim will focus entirely on providing quality multiplayer online games for free. The games will be supported with a mix of advertising and virtual item stores. Acclaim has already partnered with IGA Worldwide to provide in-game advertising for its other online game titles.
The entry period will be limited, and so will the number of people allowed in to see the project, so sign up now to become a team member on Top Secret. To register for a free account and find out more about Top Secret, visit http://topsecret.acclaim.com

That is what. You don't even get paid (only "one very lucky individual" who will become the director I guess) - we don't want just prizes. Not looking at resumes is like asking a 12 year old kid to be involved in this so-called top secret project. It won't contribute much if you only have the ideas either.
If you want ideas from the public, or what the players want in a game, then just set up a survey or forum or something, so that everyone can get in touch with the developers and brainstorm ideas together. That will be more effective at the least rather what they're doing right now to fish ideas, or if you are looking for a new director :hmm:

Hahaha Finally it's news about this, I knew about this two months ago when I mentioned David perry secret MMOG in development. But guess no one listened to me ^_^. I know many gamers are downsizing acclaim but even know through all the hardship. I still have faith in this MMOG. Words is only words, once I see and test the game then I will have my own judgment.

I too am not a fan of Wow. I tried countless times to get into the game and it didn't draw me in. From friends family and just personal satisfaction. Nothing helped to keep me drawn in. But none the less, I still going to check this game out, if given the opportunity too. See what it has to offer. And I am one that does not compare every single game coming into the market a world of warcraft clone. I'm not saying you said anything about that just to make clear to everyone reading this.

Ragnarok online is cool. I'm actually hoping Ragnarok Online with better graphics, free( or P2P Cards available in my country ), and all the features of RO +more
Basicly RO 2 Is what I'm waiting for.
If the game had an army system that would so totally rock.

Whatever happens, and whoever they pick, the game must NOT be like everything else on the market. One said that they didn't want this game to be another Ragnarok, and I agree with that 100%.
The more the game strays from the MMORPG formula, the more interesting the game is going to be. The second some idiot rolls in and lays down a bunch of "tank-nuker-buffer-healer" mierda, or even worse, some utter crap they like from some horrible Korean grindfest MMO, is the second the idea goes down in flames.
Unless they are using some kind of template, this game could actually be something special if the right ideas are used. If they ARE using some kind of template, then the game is going to look like "Free 4 Everzzz" game number 236...
If i would get accepted.. I would make an MapleStory Clone game! O_o

My first idea.
A game that allows even low-end computers to play, but still looks nice. Lol. I wouldn't mind if it looked a bit rough around the edges, but players with shitty computers love games with good graphics, but never want to upgrade their computers and just end up complaining. So it's got to work both ways in order to get a larger audience.
Anyway.
Here's my real idea.
Auto-log off. Meaning, after 30 minutes, anyone still AFK will be logged off. For those who have a shop open, their shop will be closed after 3 hours if they are AFK.

well knowing acclaim they probably won't allow lower end computers to work with "The Game". what would be really nice though is if they had to downloads. one for lower end computers, and one for higher. they both are on the same server system but exclusives for both. that would really rock.
Since i can't post my idea because i'm only 13 years old,i was hoping someone to 'take advantage of it'.I wouldn't expect profits, maybe a little of credit :D.
________
Gameplay-One of my ideas for gameplay will be a tough match and will need millions of players to match you with.Let's say it's set in either Sci-Fi or Medievial times (Sci-Fi=Spaceship;Medievial:Guild house.Sort of like oblivion factions).
Now,on the create a character process you'd insert specific details like you're favourite colour, personality, etc (Nothing country/personal details related). Now,you'd insert you're timezone.I'd choose GMT.Now,you'd pick hours that you could play.
For example:
Person A-From 4PM to 8PM (Note this is the time limit they'd log on.NOT the time they'd play)GMT+1
Person B-From 6PM to 7PM GMT (This person,if not logged on this time limit would probably not log on).
Now,the computer would match you into a previously created Spaceship/Guild House.Note that a group of say,20 people would be part of the spaceship/guild house so incase one can't log in,there'll be another to replace him/her.
You'd be part of it.You log in at 6PM and there's 4 people online waiting, getting some money for themselfs or for that new spaceship cannon. They couldn't do a mission because 5 people were required. So the leader/second in command/third in command/highest ranking officer summons everyone to the ship and explains you the mission-sort of like Face of Mankind.

This is my chance that I've been waiting for. If I win this, not only will I jump start my career, but it will look freaking amazing on an application to digipen, after all I'd still want to go to college. Man this is great it's time to enter the major league of video gaming. And guys I don't think you understand how this will work. They won't just choose some 12 year old kid who doesn't know anything, or someone who is going to turn this into a clone of another game. Everyone who signs up will get in. They will all pitch ideas, full game ideas. From graphics, gameplay, to story. Then I'm guessing they will eliminate some people, until only the people who have the best ideas are left. They will keep doing that until there is one left. Like they said, American Idol of video gaming.

Acclaim is just trying to build up a little hype. Indeed, i feel terribly sorry for the poor interns who will end up straining the piles of garbage in search of one good idea. Before most of you attempt to enter you should brush up on your English - and i mean that in the least insulting manner possible. I understand many of you aren't from an English speaking country.

I would make it the most entertaining game possible. It would have a balance of everything, also making the world so huge it would feel endless. With the most up to par graphics, with near limitless details. Free to play is kool but it need some form of prophet such as a store or special event tickets. Grinding will not be part of my game. If f2p doesn't work than I think just fee for playing is proper something like 5 dollars a month.

Watch the player ideas come in the form of 200 question surveys.
32. Your opinion on level grinding is
a) I like it very much.
b) I think it is okay.
c) I put up with it, nothing more.
d) I think it friggin' sucks.
178. What do you think of player shops?
a) They are the best!
b) There is nothing all that wrong with them.
c) I tolerate them.
d) They lag up the main city area with AFK idiots.
Best answers win! Go,Go,Go!

Ok, I'm seeing people talking about noobs trying to get ideas in to make the game a WoW, Ragnarok or w/e clone, those ideas wouldn’t even be considered as it will be a "Racing Game", not an MMORPG. And the way attitudes seem around here you appear to be the sort of people who would try to sabotage the game rather than try to help it along or at least hope for an ok outcome.
