And I suggest private torrents, if you care if the RIAA might be all up in your ass someday...
Finding a place which offers rapidshare/sendspace links is also pretty safe...

I only got a demonoid invite right now but will trade it for a couple other sites...

Depends on what you're torrenting. If you're using it to illegally download a game, then yeah, it's illegal; but if you're using it as just a download manager or to torrent things you already have or have bought, then it's ok. You just need to have proof of your purchase.

How do you get invites?
I was invited to demonoid but it seems that I can't give any invites.

When you get invited, you can't make invites. That protects from a ton of people joining.

This article is about the client. For the protocol, see BitTorrent. For bittorrent clients in general, see BitTorrent client

The BitTorrent client is a computer program developed by BitTorrent, Inc. used to download and upload files via the BitTorrent protocol.

The first client for the BitTorrent protocol was developed by Bram Cohen. He has also named his company, his software, and his protocol BitTorrent. The client software is often nicknamed "Mainline" by developers denoting its official origins. Version 4.20 of the client was dubbed "Allegro" by BitTorrent Inc., in reference to protocol extensions developed by the company to accelerate download performance and ISP manageability, according to "BitTorrent 4.20 Released" (Slyck News). Many alternative BitTorrent clients have been created since the initial release of BitTorrent, and some experts believe that the protocol will eventually be integrated into the download managers of web browsers, as evidenced by the integration by the Opera browser.

The BitTorrent client enables a user to search for and download torrent files, the main window including a Search box, (aka Search for torrents), that allows a search term to be entered and which then opens the user's default web browser at the BitTorrent torrents search engine page with the results of the search.

The current client enables a range of features including multiple parallel downloads. It also intermediates peering between itself, source file servers ("trackers") and other clients, thereby yielding great distribution efficiencies. The client also enables users to create and share torrent files.

BitTorrent Inc recently acquired µTorrent. µTorrent will remain closed source. Ludvig Strigeus, the writer of µTorrent will serve as a technical consultant, but BitTorrent Inc will do the majority of the development work.

Torrents suck for me, because all the peers I'm connecting to are halfway across the globe, so I get like 3kb/s. >_>

Every thread I see you in you are criticizing someone else's post.

You have some sort of problem we need to know about? O_o

If not, get out of my thread and post something useful.

Thanks. :3

And Legacy and Ramstein, the idiots are the ones coming into a place where someone is trying to learn something and calling them idiots.
I don't care if you have been using bittorrent since you where sucking on your mums tits, other people have not. That does not make them idiots.

Yes, I'm not a torrent guru. So all the assholes on this thread, permission to flame.

But before I go about reading that entire guide, what is an average download rate everybody is getting using BitTorrent? It's very hard for me to get anything that runs faster than 20kb/s. I'm not sure if it's the client, port, or whatever all of those are that's causing me to run slow.. or if it's my settings, or what.

Well that depends on your internet connections speed.

And the amount of people seeding the torrent, and the speed they can upload at and whether you are behind a router and whether your ISP limits download speeds through certain ports to try and stop piracy..

I think most of that is covered in the guide.

Torrents are pretty stupid, unless you find one that is well seeded...who wants to seed stuff like that after downloading it? Really? No one is that nice, lets be honest.

Ok, So yesterday all of the sudden Utorrent starts downloading slow at 1.4 kbps. I generally get 100-230 kbps depending on the seeders and all that junk. So im running on Fios and Im getting slow download speeds for not big of a torrent (60 mb for an album) and there 4 seeders and 0 peers and Im like whada F*ck up?

There are some private torrent sites like torrentleech.org that make it so you HAVE to seed, if you do not have a certain seed/download ratio they will boot you out.

With sites like that you will always get top speed downloads.

If you read the news on the front page:

Open registrations

Friday is over, and we've just closed the open registrations after 4 days of them being open.
A big welcome to all our new members.

We will be changing the open registration schedule for now on. We have not yet decided, but it will probably will be open 2 or 3 consecutive days, once per month. We'll inform you here when we decide.

Cheers

Which means I have no idea :D

Just keep an eye on the news there =]

They open registrations every Friday, but the server is malfunctioning or something. And the only way to get in is invatation. They're making the site better from suggestions.

OOOOOO

Basically...who really use Torrents to download legal stuff =P Ask yourself. Who does not download EITHER animes, cartoons, movie, games, softwares, prons, music, books, etc.

We're a bunch of thiefs but it's legal to download, jsut illegal to download those that have copyrights.
