I am buying a new computer, and I want GW aswell. I was wondering if Guild Wars work on Vista yet? Since the computer comes with Vista Home Basic, I just wanted to know if GW would work.
Plus, I want to play Battlefield 1942. I already have BF1942, but I couldn't play it on my old computer. So, I really want to play it since I have had it for months and haven't had the chance to play it yet...
Should I just buy Windows XP, or is there a way to play them both with Vista. If I can't play them both with Vista, I will most likely buy XP...

GW has been reported to be one of the few MMORPGs to actually work on Vista.

Well, I posted this in the General board as well. And Trisomy said that you just have to remove a file to get games to work.

That's not true. I'm running Vista Home Premium and I can play Guild Wars fine. But I'm pretty sure I'm running on 32-bit, so if you choose 64-bit I'm not going to guarantee it's going to run. I have no idea about Battlefield 1942; sorry.
Too many people have been getting hyped about Vista, but there isn't much to be ecstatic about. Vista just a new look, and I prefer Windows XP. The only reason that I'm even running Vista is that I wanted to test it out and because my computer came with it.
It's still your choice. If you want Vista, get it. If you're not sure, stick with XP.

It is generally advised not to install a MS operating system until it's at least at its SP1. Here's how MS products work:
Windows # RC (Release Candidate) = alpha
Windows # at release = beta
Windows # SP1 (Service Pack 1) = release candidate
Windows # SP2 (Service Pack 2) = final version
It's true! ;)

Guild Wars runs just fine, just it ran about 10fps slower on my machine.
And the only problem I see with BF1942 is PunkBuster. At least that was the only problem with BF2 and BF2142.

So, the BF games should work fine? What about Warcraft 3..? XD

Warcraft 3 worked for me. And it ran the same, because it basically ran 75FPS (max on my monitor) constantly on XP. Not a very demanding game, really.
And for BF games, I heard running it in compatibility mode will help with PunkBuster problems. Then again, PB has hopefully been updated by now to work with Vista.

A message to all Microsoft haters:
Quit flaming threads without properly reading the first post. THe poster clearly stated that he is buying a new computer and can only find store brands with Vita only. He's not saying he wants to by and install vista, just that brand name computer don't come with XP anymore (unless you buy it custom)
Besides, your comment is further flaming because you provide no point behind your view. Yes we all know windows operating systems always have holes, but just saying "it sucks" could mean anything. For all we know, you could've just had a bias against Microsoft and pre-judge everything of theirs as being terrible, before it even reaches market.
Back up you theories and provide reasonable proof.
Back on topic:
Have you already decided on the computer you're wanting or are you still shopping. If so, you can (and I'm assuming you're still a newb a building pc's, otherwise I would suggest you build one, instead) go to the manufactures retail site and customize the perfect PC. And if I;m correct, most of those site would probably still give you the choice as to whether you want XP or ista installed.

I recently purchased a new PC w/ Windows Vista and discovered that Battlefield 1942 and subsequent sequels (Secret Weapons Of WW2, Road To Rome and Vietnam) all have glitches. Tasks bars and sliders (for music volume etc) are missing on "Control" options and worst of all many of the weapons are missing crosshairs. I've read about this issue on numerous other forums as well. I'm hesitant to upload all my other beloved games(Half Life 2, Red Orchestra, Delta Force, Manhunt et al) now.
