Yeah, ever since I heard about Massively Multiplayer Online Games, a lot of bad things happened to me..I was really addictive to them and now my eyes are really bad and I'm getting pretty low marks in school. Everyday I look forward to going home after school and play some games. I stop doing my homework because of how much I'm addicted to these kinds of games....
So my question to you guys is that have these online games harm you or interfere with your life in anyway?

Yes. I used to think about it all the time at school and barely pay attention to my teachers. I also used to dream about it before I went to bed. I forced myself to quit runescape and then came back to it like a year later. I got to around the same place in the game and quit again. I was a dam beast at ranging both times. Also, my mining on one account was like 80 something and I had like 76 smithing on the other so call me a dwarf but I was hooked!! Then I came back another time to create a pure and everyone kept reporting me cuz I was lvl 3 in the mining guild. I had like 66 mining and then figure I needed to mine around 200,000 coal in order to get 99. I quit shortly after.

Ok this is what to do:
1. smoke weed , it stimulates your eyes :D.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrahydrocannabinol
2. smoke weed , you don't get stressed about the things you have at school :D.
3. Smoke weed , you stop playing games , and you'll do your homework because you are to tired to look at the screen. So you do your homework :D.
Btw no , I never had problems with MMOG's , But maybe that's because i smoke weed :D:P.

That's abit extreme isn't it?
Haven't really affected me, I haven't been out (except to the shop, and School) in years. I just stay here, in this very spot, day after day, after day, after day, doing next to nothing productive. Who needs a social life? You normal people need to get over yourselves.
I don't think it's the MMORPG's fault, it's just that you're getting lazy.
And you, my friend, are obsessed with the ego-boosting, "I'm cool because I smoke weed", don't mess with me or I'll shoot you drug that is, marijuana!

Nah they're addictiing because they set you up thinking you could be number one when really you have no chance. Also, you get all these people that like you and then it's hard to say goodbye to friends. And then you get to complaining about how they take your

I remember my Runescape days(first MMO played), I was saving and putting a lot of time into getting the "Adamant Gold" armor(Yes, I still know the name), then one day I finally got it. After a little while I was like "Oh, I'm so powerful now, I'm gonna go PvP someone!" It turned out that dude that I PvP'ed was much stronger so he killed me and got my "Adamant Gold Armor." I started crying so much because I worked really hard for it, and that's the day I quit Runescape. (I was only 10 years old)
@Smiley: Well yeah, sometimes I do smoke weed, but I have better things to do like owe people and buy school stuff rather than spending $10 on a gram. I only smoke it on "special occasions."

Yeah basically I got the armor for the gold trim, it looked sexy back then so I got it.
I guess no one else has problems with playing MMO's?

lol €25= CAD 38,58 to be precise :p.
But , i don't think many people are addicted to games , find a second hobby (for me that's kickboxing) and spend much time on that hobby too.
Also game addiction is a psychological addiction , it's isn't psychical , so if you are strong and really try stop thinking of games , you might stop being addicted :).

It's all about self-control. MMORPGs can't take away your life unless you let them.
The extreme case in this is the infamous CNN "exclusive" on the Everquest addict that killed him-self in his house. After that incedent everyone was on SOE about it. They even have councelers to help people with MMORPG addiction. It's sad, really. :\

MMO's aren't necessarily bad for you. It just depends on how much self control you have. Like all things, MMO's can be very addictive. You've just got to learn to deal with the addiction. All addictions can and will be bad for you. People who are addicted to smoking might develop lung cancer. Those addicted to games might have bad eyesight or bad grades.
Just try and learn to control how much you play. Start off small. Tell yourself that once you finish your homework you'll be rewarded and be able to play games until you need to sleep. And, to prevent rushing your homework, you could reward yourself with your grades. Every 'A' would mean a hour or gaming. A 'B' would be 30 minutes of gaming. Rewarding yourself is always a great way of helping the addiction.
It sounds stupid but once you do it you're grades should rise again and you'll have fun playing games. Always remember that playing an MMO is supposed to help you relax and let you have fun. Don't waste your entire day in front of the computer screen screaming at someone half way around the globe.
Control yourself, and you should be fine.

People sometimes play MMOGs to escape the realities of life, their real life could suck. When they rely on it too much they become dependent on it.

Some girl died that played WoW and then all she wanted was to have her funeral in WoW. Then people came in game and went to the funeral and then some guild attacked everyone..bla bla bla.....I'm not sure if this is real, but I saw it on YouTube and it brought a lot of "press" to it.
Basically some people take games too seriously.

You can't really blame the MMOGs, the only person you can blame is yourself for not having enough self-discipline to know when to do the right thing.

I think they should have just let the funeral be, they were real disrespectful to break up a funeral, even a virtual one. =]

mmos sure can screw u up with education lol.
u can just tell. i remembered my score went down by alot coz during that time, i played maplestory too much(tat was a while back). yes maplestory, i gave that game a try because all my friends are playing it as well i played and experience the game in depth. since maple is a grind, obviously i spent alot of time on it..
this didnt happen to other games though lol. maybe its just coz maplestory took too fkn long to level up just once, that it took away all my studying time.
its better now though. =P

OK yeah, it was a BIT disrespectful to break it up, but it WAS one BIG dumb idea.

Maplestory is not anywhere like runescape. Runescape have so much to do while maple story is only grinding.

Yeh i used to be really addicted to mmorpgs.
I guess i just played them so much that i tired out of them. My friends in the game stopped playing so i stopped playing. This curbed most of my game addiction.
Now i only plat warcraft 3 for an hour average. B4 it was like 4 hours or some other game.

MMMOG's are never bad for you, lack of self-control when it comes to playing them is however.
Some people can become some what obsessed with them.
