View Full Version : FFXII-Oh *****another dungeon.
The title explains everything-FFXII,the worst Final Fantasy EVER!I just got Final Fantasy 12 and i had my soul pumping for yet another epic final fantasy. So here is my negative review...
Graphics:
They leave much to desire,i loved FFX graphics. This game's...seem like crowded textures fighting for a place.
Sound:
Great sound,as always.Wouldn't expect less.
Gameplay:
HORRIBLE,just HORRIBLE.The game is so hard i keep staying put at a place, the battle system is so boring it makes me fall asleep since i need to press X just to get a potion or a cure spell. It also involves enemy ganging which kills you in a blast,oh joy.The horrible positioning of save points doesn't help either.
Also, the game is not exactly a Final Fantasy.More like a dungeon crawler. So,you start the game and you go into the sewers.Ok..the obsession with sewers on Final Fantasy series is understandable. You crawl trough that dungeon.Oh goodie,a palace. After a while, your yet again at crawling the sewers maze.Afterwards, you get thrown into a prison.Christ, not again (Flashbacks of other FF game prisons). After that fight with overgrown muscle heads, you go into ANOTHER dungeon.OH GREAAAAT!
Cutscene...Zoink!You get...In a tunnel! And it's got energy addicted mobs too! After a enourmous effort of crawling trough it,you get outside.Goodie.Only to get thrown into a ****ing Airship prison later on.After trying and trying, you make it trough.
And so,since the people of Ivalice won't recognize the princess we must set journey to a tomb filled with skeleteons and ghosts.
Bosses:
Bosses?Oh please,i have x4 difficulty on normal enemies.Judge Ghis was oblirated on my first combo of Quickening.
Overall:The worst FF ever.
Altough i'm only at the King's Tomb, the game is found guilty of beeing boring. It just doesn't make me come back for more, say like FFX.
No side quests exept hunting (again..) or whatsoever. No minigames like chocobo breeding or Blitzball.
Now FFXI and FFX are good new gen. Final Fantasies!I just hope Final Fantasy 13 is better.
This also gives space for a question here:
Does the game get better?I'm so sick of dungeons with fearsome mobs every corner...

Well you see, there will be many more dungeons and open areas to explore with much harder enemies that will mob and corner you.
It's not boring if you know what you're doing. If you hate the mobs, then don't make your party become a mindless mob either. Set up a smart gambit.
Although if you're expecting another FFX-esque game (like me at first, story-full that will guide and hook you up throughout the game), you won't like XII at first, but it'll grow on you as you go on and learn and try the game mechanics in depth.

I know,it just feels like i'm always scared for the worse-Working my way trough the entire dungeon till something crawls out and owns me.It should be named Final Fantasy:The Dungeon Crawler.
I personaly loved FFX,you'd get to go trough open areas to progress.I hate going to dungeons and dark places in games.I just know i'll get owned and die,and then progress all the way back to get owned again. And the story isn't that good anyway. This Final Fantasy leaves much to desire.

the reason is the guy that made FF 7 till FFX quit square enix. reason why gameplay of XII and XIII is so different.

Well, i liked FF12 more than FFX. Graphics and dialogue is much more mature. The fighting system allows fast fighting. Once you get a fair amount of skills, it can be quite fun. FFX was probably better in terms of story, but Tidus and Rikku were seriously annoying and childish. Vaan isn't as bad as Tidus, which makes it a little better. Basch and Balthier also have cool dialogue. The boss monsters are also very creatively designed. As far as side quests go, FF12 far outranks FFX. FFX lacked bonus areas (omega ruins was about it), and you spend most of your time completing the sphere grid. The monster arena was pretty challenging, but FF12 serves that purpose with hunts. I find FF12 gives you much more freedom to explore. In FFX, the game was very linear, you couldn't really do much except for follow the main story till you got the airship. FF12 gives you big areas, letting you go out of your way to find extra stuff if you need to (which is interesting if you dont follow a walkthrough).
PS: I found this to be a fairly easy Final Fantasy, there was really only one boss that killed me, and that one repeatedly cast status effects on you. But as with all final fantasies and rpgs in general, if you're finding it hard...just go level up.

yea wich dumbass is going to use quikenings the whole time -_-"
Was that an insult?Or..whatever.I didn't understand if it was sarcrasm or just an insult.
If it was an insult,i don't use quicknings all the time, only on bosses.
yea wich dumbass is going to use quikenings the whole time -_-"
probably me, since that seems the only way to hurt bosses after the first part of the game.............

I finished the whole game without quickenings. Didn't like'em, i like my mp. You can outlast pretty much any boss if you heal your guys continuously. Bosses dont take long in this FF anyway. BTW, im guessing the hunt your doing at Lhusu mines is the serpent one, which i wouldn't be trying at lvl 10, come back when you're 20. Like I said before, couple of hours spent in just leveling up can make a game much more enjoyable. This FF requires a lot more attention than previous ones, you have to react faster to status changes and high damaging spells, sorta like playing FF7 in real time mode. Maybe try get out of the habit of using quickenings on every boss, because if they happen to outlast your chain, you're screwed with no mp. Then you gotta waste time casting charge, which may be just the time a boss needs to wipe you out.
P.S: When i say easy, i mean story bosses. Other FFs had harder story bosses IMO. There are hunts i didn't bother completing, maybe cos they were too hard or i just wanted to clock the game. But as far as story bosses go, the only one that gave me trouble was this green dragon in golmore jungle. Rest were pretty simple. The enemies weren't really very tough either. Excluding the extra areas that is.

the reason is the guy that made FF 7 till FFX quit square enix. reason why gameplay of XII and XIII is so different.
Reasons why FFXII is so different than the previous FFs was because it's made by entirely different staffs than FFVII-FFX, more precisely the Vagrant Story's team. As an related example, one most noticeable difference is the Art & Character designs which was also done by the Vagrant Story's designer.
The director of FFXII even said that this is his first time making a flagship title with many times the number of staff working under him than he normally would have with other SE titles.
Maybe that's why it's differrent.
FFXIII will be back with the usual FF series team plus from some other teams such as Chronos and KH. It will be a blast.

Bleh not FFX though. The X`s final bosses is so easy that I can kill him with just a couple of attacks!!!
But the Monster Arena (forgot what its called) bosses is just so freaking hard...the difference in difficulty is like from earth to pluto..:hmm:
The only real time the bosses got hard for me was around the *cough*early-midgame spoilers(I think)
Ruins with the moving walls and the espher, those I couldn't beat without quickenings, I even had that overpowered 55 atk sword, Demonbane or something I think.
So yeah, I'm still stuck around there *no I beat that part and a bit after if your wondering*

I cant believe it, FFXII is not that hard at all, of course I didnt get all the ultimate weapons and ultimate stuff because my brother is the only one who has a ps2 now (mine broke :( )
We played it together from start till end, took us 1-2 weekends of casual playing. We had game over screen ruffly around 3-5 times (mostly because of reckless behaviour, trying to kill T-rex monster way too soon :P )
But all in all, i loved the game, it was totally different from any final fantasy before, but it still had the good feeling of character manipulation. My Vaan was the crazy melee fighter, and I specialized the girls for magic and so on.
We beat the last boss in the first go, but he gave us the battle of our lives, with only Vaan left alive in our team we hacked him to death with the final blow. The game was over too soon IMO, but that's mostly because of my limited English (yes, some of the dialogue I simply didn't understand!) but the game left me wanting more! I am worried about FF13 though, looks like crap if you ask me. I hope FF7 will be remade for ps3, because that game is legendary, ff6 is also amazing. But I dont know, I just love nostalgia. Hand me a snes console with secret of mana and you wont see me for the rest of the weekend :)
Anyhow, FFXII = GREAT GAME if you ask me. Only thing I disliked was the music. After final fantasy 9 the final fantasy music went downhill. I remember getting psyched up about ff6 boss battle music, or final fantasy 7 chocobo theme, final fantasy 9 knight theme, but after that I dont remember a single song....maybe that hard rock song in FFX which was in fact a quite interesting choice!
Cant believe how much I have just written lol, I should be doing something more constructive :P
Have fun guys!

nop its the same team. The music man from the old ffs is the only high member who leaves...not someone like the story maker ;)
and to the topic guy FFX sucks .The older ffs are all better and ff7 (snes titel too) this are the top favorites in world ^^ (statistics)

Man i loved FFXII , it kept me busy for 100 hours and i didnt finish everything. The game had so many things that u could do. I loved the espers, mostly adrma~ but yeah if you dont like it then you dont. Nothing we can do about that.
Yeah I don't even think I'm even half way through the game (Got out of the dungeon with electricity addicted mobs then stopped for a month or two).
i hated the game from the word go, it made me think thank god i didn't actually buy this
