Team name: BloodOnBinary
Project name: Escalation-Online - Online 3D 3rd Person/RPG MMO, Web Based Instant Messenger, Casual 2D Games engine based, Sacred - 3D FPS/RPG Online, Website Design. These are the 5 planned/current project departments under the BloodOnBinary flag, some may recognise Escalation-Online as a long standing development from the team of the same name and all members now make up the core of BloodOnBinary.
Brief description:
Escalation-Online has been in development for about 2 years soon as expected with any indie MMO it has been a long struggle but are finally making good progress after securing a setup that gives us a efficient pipeline of resources. It is to be an Urban MMO set in modern times and progressing as time goes on from said period. With all the traditional elements which make todays current MMO, with a few added enhancements and best of all the design we will follow will allow the game to be forever free to access, this is based on the Kaneva platform, we were using Torque and had some good progress but - and this is my personal opinion no flaming please - creating a decent pipeline for art when your main tool is 3DS Max and level building are not too friendly within said program - we have to realise we are an indie team and not a big budget company and so happily take such a setup as Kaneva which gives a better development environment and easy/stable access to the 3DS Max resources we want to use. We are also looking into attaining Quidam which allows us to create extremely high detailed models. The motto the team follows is something along the lines of 'why reinvent the wheel when you can just build off of the blueprint'.
Web Based Instant Messenger, having myself become slightly annoyed with MSN's connectivity issues of late I looked into Web Based Solutions. Now we have a script that I would like to work on and enhance to make into a quick and easy solution to relying on such programs. Currently able to have buddy lists and create Chat rooms on the fly I would also like to add other features such as being able to have Game Stats shown within it and profiles, this is based on Ajax.
With the Casual Games section of BloodOnBinary we understand not everyone wants to play a MMO, and so this area is to produce casual games be it in Java, C (I just say C I am aware of the numerous versions but you know what I am talking about as the alternative to Java), GameMaker (I do not want to hear the GameMaker debate I think it is a handy program and am well aware that it is more than suitable for producing casual games but not MMOs as some have tried, though keep trying I say to them), or web based in PHP/MySQL set ups or Flash. So if you know any of those 5 approaches then this area might be for you. Projects in this area are likely to last in fortnightly to 1 month blocks, with 1 week spent on planning and 1-3 weeks spent on execution. The games will then be distributed within our shop area where people will pay just a small fee in some cases for access to the download not the product itself. This department will have further discussion at a upcoming date.
Sacred is a FPS/RPG the player will always be in FP mode and unable to switch which we feel differentiates the title from our Escalation-Online title but adds something extra when playing online and have been wanting to try out such a mix for a while. This project is fantasy based with a Technological like twist in the foundation, this project is brand new and is in the conceptual stages for the time being, it will also be based on the Kaneva platform to allow fast development by reusing code blocks found in Escalation-Online and vice versa, this will also follow the free to play forever design planned.
Finally we have the Web Design Project which will be a team of web designers in various proficiencies who shall take orders of web development and carry them out. The difference between us and other set ups is that we will have special 'pack' approaches to our design so instead of just getting a website you could get a 'Indie Project' pack which would consist of a Forum setup, Website setup and any bonuses to go with it, so you form the pack or a pre-defined one and it is carried out. This will either be successful or flop but we feel this will be more suited at the small budget team as opposed to some sites selling templates at over $200 in some places and more for customisation (I am from the UK :p thou shall not use the Z).
Target aim:
With the exception of the Web Design project all of our products will be Freeware with added extras for those who donate to our projects. Also I would like to point out that we will be using an extra method to the usual paypal approach and be taking in mobile payments so you can pay with your mobile/cell phone which removes the limit of those without cards, just one of the new innovations taken on by us.
Compensation:
We offer at the time being just percentage of any profit we do make after expenses of the team are covered first (servers etc), generally we are not in this to make money the money is to keep our projects going if we make a profit too then heck all the better, since currently the payment comes from my pocket but we will be going long term between the two main developers (myself and Trask) we have put about £3000 into this if not more over the 3 years we have been together. Other staff members have had their own costs too for their development tools, we are relaxed and chilled and get on with each other so that is key for joining the team, if you are not a happy/social person there is not much point joining we are here to have fun not be lectured.
Technology:
Target Systems are PC (Windows for the time being), Console (once we merge to the XNA which should be far more developed by the time we need to use it), Mobiles. The languages use are Python, PHP, MySQL, (as much as I dislike the idea I will adopt RubyonRails just out of interest compared to the PHP/MySQL combo so..)Ruby, C (same note I put above), Java, and of course the typical common languages HTML, JS etc. Artist tools range and generally use whatever you are skilled with as long as the product is good, for example I use Notepad for my editing cos I just like no-nonsense setups, whereas Trask for his modelling likes 3DS Max as opposed to free alternative products.
Talent needed:
Programmers in any of the languages listed above (just to check if you read)
Musicians/Composers, currently working within the team is MaestroSorrow whom you may of heard of from Newsgrounds.com and you will be working with him and any other person within this field.
Helpers, to take a roll in aiding around the community, gathering new members to the forums, eventually taking a roll on the live help system and such.
Aspiring Game Designers, if you have always been the 'idea' guy with not many a skill, then you might find a good spot in the Casual Games department, it will be your job to come up with new Game Ideas to be produced from concept to creation.
3D Modellers/Riggers, those who have skill in creating models or even just animating bones you would be welcomed on both the Escalation-Online and Sacred projects.
Graphic Artists, this covers 2D Sprite Makers for use with our Casual Games like GameMaker, Java and even artwork for the Web Based IM like emoticons.
Concept Designers, from sketchwork to slightly more developed ideas you are the link between the Ideas and the Creation process turning the ideas into something more fleshy or visual for the Designers and Programmers to work on
I feel that is all however if you feel you have something to offer the team please feel free to still apply.
Team structure:
SilentSiren - Developer - It is mainly my job to lead the team and have been the main Coder up until now, has been with the team from day 1.
Trask - Developer - Sharing the responsibility of project developments and is the main Modeller within the team and has also been there since day 1 (I can't get rid of him >_> j/k Trask)
Silverwolf - Creative Lead - Main role is being an exceptional ideas guy and story writer of many a personal book, generally helping with testing and a jack of all trades too hence the Creativity title and has lived in the team for nearly 2 years.
MaestroSorrow - Musician - Musically gifted in my opinion and found at onrpg.com whilst homed at newsgrounds.com. MaestroSorrow has a somewhat Epic feel to his tracks and produces them with great speed, you can in fact listen to some of his piecies on our forums and click MP3 at the top navigation bar. Maestro has been with the team over a year.
KateD - Website Admin - Great person and was the main pillar to our foundation when starting up in grabbing the website and maintaining and rescuing us from more than 3 hack attempts. KateD has been with us over a year and will always be a valued member.
Kere - Community Lead - Kere rose up from the current test members of the previous Escalation-Online versions, a fine attention to detail and kind heart to new members he makes a good position in helping out those in need and has been with the team nearly 1 year.
Austin - PR Lead - Austin has single handedly secured our spot within various communities most noteworthy ************ and currently deals with any publicity for the projects and relations.
G0zt - 3D Design - Able to do 2D design just as well as 3D G0zt is the designer behind our current banners at our websites and has a humourous twist to his art in places that reflects his own. G0zt has been with the team under a year but has made an impression.
