I just loved the concept of Resident Evil Outbreak for Playstation 2. Classic RE gameplay but online with friends. Unfortunately, I don't have a PS2 and even if I did, I don't have the means to connect it to the internet.

So I came across games like Left 4 Dead (http://www.l4d.com/), but it just seems like your typical zombie (bot) hunting FPS. Is there anything like RE: Outbreak (third person multiplayer survival horror) but for the computer? Doesn't even need to be free (preferably buy to play though, no monthly fees).

As far as I know, nothing like this exists, but you guys probably know better than me.

Just for the record, as I said in my original post, I'm trying to avoid the mindless FPS gunning down zombies style of gameplay.

Thanks for Urban Dead though, not quite what I was looking for but I'll give it a try. :)
