Square Enix has officially announced the latest Final Fantasy remake for handheld game consoles, with remastered versions of both the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II scheduled to ship exclusively for the PSP in North America this summer.

With a 20 year heritage, the Final Fantasy series remains one of the most successful and highly regarded series of console role-playing games, with versions on 28 different platforms, as well as 2 CG animated films and 29 music soundtracks released worldwide.

The original Final Fantasy, first released for the NES in 1987, will be released for the PSP on June 26, with the remade sequel appearing a month later on July 24. Both games have been the subject of various re-mastering efforts over the years, with the most recent coming via Final Fantasy I & 2: Dawn of Souls for the Game Boy Advance.

Square Enix notes that these latest titles, which have been dubbed “anniversary editions,” will include “entirely new content,” such as new character art, updated graphics, new dungeons, full 16:9 widescreen presentation, and an updated camera.

“So much has changed within the video game industry since the first console was launched, and Final Fantasy has always pushed the envelope, creating the most advanced graphics and immersive storylines possible,” said Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto “It is amazing to see how far Final Fantasy has come in the past twenty years, and we cannot wait to continue bringing fans more Final Fantasy titles in the next twenty years.”

This is kind of old news. If you've been paying attention to the PSP scene this has been known for a few months now.

How does that benefit this thread at all? If he posted it, then he obviously thinks some of us don't pay attention to the PSP scene, though we own PSPs. Oh that's right. It makes you appear smart. :eyes:

Hmmm... I didn't play the original FFs but now maybe i'll get a chance to. That's pretty cool that their deciding to remake some of their games. Konami or whoever needs to go remake Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. That game was the SHIT.

They also get the job advancements or whatever you wanna call them.

Fighter >>> Knight
Monk/Blackbelt >>> Master
White Mage >>> White Wizard/Priest
Black Mage >>> Black Wizard/Wizard
Red Mage >>> Red Wizard/Warlock
Thief >>> Ninja

I know I got the alternate names horribly wrong there...

Dude, Mr. First Name Basis, play the Ninja Turtles arcade game on the 360, friggen nerdgasm right there.

I believe it was shown at Squares little party, at least videos of it. It's also where they showed FF Tactics. Can't wait for that one.

Overall the quality of the games has increased visually, otherwise its the same gameplay, where you fight 4 monsters total, just different colors :p

I can't really stand all the random battles those 2 games have. If they lower that, than I think I might buy them

Compared to the monster known as the NES versions the battle rate is lower....ofcourse I have played the original and the Final Fantasy (1) remakes way to many times already...-_-

Ok, I just got my hands on the imported version of FF 1 remake... They have an english language option which is just awsome.

Anyways, I am GREATLY impressed with the quality of this remake. It pretty much is a remake in my opinion. Better music. WAY better graphics... its just great! Can't wait too see if FF3-6 will get the same treatment ;)
