Okay, I'm making a full translation of, pretty much anything I can.

I already have about 1/4th of the UI files translated and backed up.

However, I ran into a snag. Whenever I copy it over the text will not show up ingame. I ran a few tests and any little change in the file will cause this bug.

Creid made a quick translation of the character window (I think its AGI not quickness <_<), but I haven't heard anything back so if anyone knows what I need to do to the file to get it to work that'd be appreciated.

My Steps:

1. Run notepad under japanese settings, then open uitext.bin.
2. Use google translator to get a rough idea of what the kana is.
3. Insert translation.
4. Run back over it and localize translations.
5. Let patcher do a full check and complete its routines.
6. Unrar my patch and start game.

I know I'm missing a step I just don't know what I'm missing.

What I have done so far:

Guilds = 100%
Synthesis Menus = 100%

Even if I did it the wrong way it won't take me long to get back where I was since I have all the kana already translated.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rohan JP only.

well the wiki of course has ingame stuff...unless u cant compare image to txt and translate...either learn japanese or post a ss of what u need translating(actruly if u do that it would be crazy...since there's so many stuff to translate, plus the english version is coming out soon anywho...)

Okay.. I'll do this slowly.

I don't need help with game mechanics, I know how to use deduction well enough to get by.

I want to provide a translation for everyone not just for myself since not everyone is like us.

Images are annoying and not everyone can run two things at once. Seeing as a patch can be made, I'll just go ahead and help provide one. I just ran into a snag. The End.

I don't need translating. I just need to figure out how to get the file to work with the game.

I have to confess some other rl stuff is taking up my time. I didn't notice any pm of you since you seem to mention you contacted me. A lot of the pms I get are questions for registration and sometimes I just delete them so it's possible I missed it, sorry.

I did my quick translation by editing the uitext.bin file using a hex editor and searching for the japanese for the words I wanted to translate. I noted the changes would only appear if the exact position of words remained the same. Jp chars are encoded by 2 bytes, this means you can put 2 english letters or numbers per japanese character without lengthening the data and screwing up addresses. This limits you in some ways as strength is displayed as 1 jp character, so there's only room for 2 english letters. If you're doing it by hex editing raw files you'll need a hex editor capable of displaying japanese characters, try hexecute. I'm guessing your issue is that by editing the file in a word processor the game no longer knows where to look since the text for Strength would normally be positioned at bytes x and x+1, with x+2 being another text or filler.

I don't know how far you are in this translation so my simple method could be way too basic or quick&easy for what you're trying to do. I'm sure there is a more logical and easier way than this but it was the method I used. Good luck anyway.

That makes perfect sense actually. So its safer to use a hex editor as i'm looking at it right now, but the quicker way is to use notepad /hm m I'm gonna need to think about this one >_<. I was wondering why there was so many random combinations of letters. If that's the case then this is going to be really annoying to translate. I'll keep looking into it.

Hi, I'd just like to say what your doing is very encouraging and time consuming, your a great asset to the Foreign to English game playing community here.
I believe a hell of lot more praise is warranted.
Its great to see someone actually doing something positive.
I must say that negative posts are really uncalled for.
This guy is trying hard to make it easier for us to understand a game that we can't read into.(language wise)
yet again,
I can speak for everyone here that trys to keep things positive! good job! keep up the good work ; )

Use the search button.

The font in the .bin files are actually LARGE

Let's see what else. Translating isn't the problem its more along the lines of how translate something in Japanese thats say 18 bytes long into something in English that is 36 bytes long but requires more bytes. It's basically a number game.

I'm neither a mathematician or wordsmith but fuck. /off to play Halo 3 Beta.

I'm considering holding off and seeing if the game comes out of its 2nd open beta thing as a f2p game. No sense in doing all this work to find out its going p2p again.

Also, cocks.

And also, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO NINJA EDIT A POST WITH ALL THIS LAG!! <_<;;

thx for replies ;D

nzrock, wut u mean by unicode? I set language for non-unicode program as Japanese.

I guess we have to wait till july 6 to be clear either the game will be f2p or not, but most likely it will be f2p.

I'd like to say that you making an english translator would be awesome. I'd want to give this game a go till some of the other games come out; as I'm waiting like everyone else. So keep up the good work, eh I have no experience in translating <.< forms of languages on the computer so sorry if I'm of no help.

But I really do appreciate the time you're putting into doing so, it shows that there are still good people out there.

Thanks for the words, but even so I still want to wait and make sure it comes out f2p. No use working on it just to lose it when it goes back to p2p.

When it does go f2p i'll do my best to make a translation. And I'm sure Creid will help out when he can too.
