Please do not flame me about any errors in the FAQ, especially in the
smithing charts. I did not make them myself, I copied from www.tip.it/ (http://www.tip.it/)
runescape and added some stuff, and gave some more advice. Shame on me,
I know, but at least I'm going to be (fairly) honest and own up, and I
have neither the time nor effort to research all of it myself. Anyway
tip.it, thanks for making an excellent chart on smithing.
I am not responsible for any people to choose to commit suicide due to
the fact they somehow got ripped off while using this guide. If you
can't take the fact that this is only a game, you are pathetic. I heard
of a guy who was playing Everquest (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#) (easily better in RPGing, but you
need to pay to play), got a set of rather rare and extremely kickarse
items, got hacked, lost them all, and decided life wasn't worth living
anymore. I dont particularly want to be sued. Unfortunately, american
people (Aussies are following quite nicely) have a nasty tendency to sue
everyone around them, so I should be pretty afraid.
------------[2. Versions]----------------------------------------------
v0.9 About 7/7/2002
I have just started this FAQ. It's kinda crap, but it will do. This
version has not been posted online yet.
v0.95 17/1/2003 or 1/17/2003
Still unposted. Have vastly improved the FAQ. I believe it's ready. Now
all I ahve to do is submit it.
v1.0 22/1/2003 or 1/22/2003
It's finally been posted. Added a few updates to the smithing tables.
v1.1 30/3/2003 or 3/30/2003
Haven't had an update for ages. No time either, I'm a busy man. Year 10
so many assignments it's scary. I just added some spelling checks and
update the date in Gamefaqs, so more people go to this FAQ. Call me
cheap... Oh, yeah, I added the price guide. It's not very comprehensive
though, but I'm not that good.
By the way, I'm putting up both types of dates, for the American people
who read this FAQ. I'm too kind.
------------[3. Introduction] -----------------------------------------
Before anyone bags me about my spelling errors, I live in Australia,
and Australians use the British English system. So there. Don't Flame
me about it.
For those of you who do not know what Runescape is, it is a very
popular online game (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#). It is a Massive Multiplayer Online Game (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#), or MMORG.
I think that's it. The main difference between Runescape and many other
online RPGs (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#) are:
1) Runescape has graphics, even if they are pretty crap
2) Runescape does not only concentrate of fighting monsters (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#) or other
people. Of course, having a powerful fighter is very important, but not
as important as the skills required. There are many skills, most which
involve creating items, and selling them for money. You can fight
monsters, and receive experience, increasing your character's fighting
ability. Or, you can mine copper and tin, smelt it into bronze, and
smith it into a sword. Or, you could fish tuna or sardines, and cook
them. You can chop trees and make arrows or bows. You can complete
quests in exchange for experience and goods, like a traditional RPG (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#).
The possibilities are huge.
3) Runescape is free. Well, nearly. There are two types of servers (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#) in
Runescape, 'free' servers, and 'members' servers. Call them f2p and
p2p. The majority of players play in f2p, but in p2p, you have to pay a
fee to use it. The trade-off is huge. The member's world is twice the
size of that of the f2p world. There are new quests, new items, new
monsters, and many other new features. Too bad I can't afford (can't
use credit card yet) it.
There you have it. They are the three main features of Runescape. I'm
not sure if they are the three Official features, but it doesn't matter.
The skill system in Runescape is much different to games (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#) such as Diablo.
The more you use a certain skill, the better your character gets at it.
For example, every time you hit a rock with a pickaxe (mining), and
receive a piece of ore, you receive experience for that skill. Once you
experience total for that reaches a certain number or higher, you level
up. More level ups allow a greater chance of finding an ore, and allows
you to mine better and better ores.
This FAQ looks at one feature of Runescape's skill system. Smithing. It
is one of the skills that can produce the most profit. The others are
mining and fishing. Smithing can potentially produce the greatest profit
out of all of them, but it is the hardest skill to raise. This FAQ
concentrates on all of the facets of smithing, from the mining, the
smelting, the smithing, and the weapons/armour.
I am going to do it an assume that you know some things about Runescape
.eg. how to move, how to use items, how to fight, etc. That will save me
a lot of space. I will also assume you have a map (go to
www.runescape.com (http://www.runescape.com/), click on Runescape, click on map, and save the
website).
------------[4. How to Smith]------------------------------------------
Smithing requires three stages, mining the ores from rocks, smelting the
ores into bars (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#), and smithing the bars into armour or weapons. It is
fairly simple to do, but there is a catch. A large one as well. To smith,
you require ores. Low level ores are quite easy to obtain, and their
rocks are very common. Along with each ore named will be the mining
level required to mine it:
-----------------
| Clay: Level 1 |
-----------------
Clay has absolutely nothing to do with smithing. Clay is used in
crafting, which makes amulets, holy symbols, pottery and leather. Clay
is not particularly common, it's just no one cares about it.
-------------------
| Copper: Level 1 |
-------------------
A low level ore. Copper, along with tin, is very common. It is very easy
to mine, and is used on conjunction with tin to make bronze. It is
usually mined by new players, who wish to raise their mining level. It
used to be good for powermining, but with the new fatigue system around,
it is much less common.
----------------
| Tin: Level 1 |
----------------
Another low level ore. It is used in conjunction with copper to make
bronze. It is very similar to copper, in it's abundance and uses.
------------------
| Iron: Level 15 |
------------------
Iron is a large jump from copper and tin. It is the metal most used in
smithing, as it is easy to obtain and gives good experience. It also
gives much better profits. The best place to mine iron is the mine SE
of Varrock. It is near a bank, a bed, and has 3 iron rocks. One quirk
with smelting iron is that it has a random 50% chance of failing,
requiring you to mine twice as many ores than bars. Very annoying, I
know.
--------------------
| Silver: Level 20 |
--------------------
Like Clay, Silver is associated with crafting. The only thing you can
make with them are Holy symbols of Sarodomin. They also give decent
smithing experience, but you cannot actually smith it, only smelt it.
They are pretty good to sell to people who want to raise their crafting
level.
------------------
| Coal: Level 30 |
------------------
Coal is the jackpot for many miners. Coal is used with iron, mithril,
admantite, and runite ores to make their bars. Without Coal, you cannot
make Steel, Mithril, Adamantite and Runite bars. Coal is very
profitable, and even more so if you decide to smith with it. Steel
requires, 2 Coals to smelt, Mithril requires 4, Adamantite requires 6,
and Runite requires 8. Mithril is good to sell to other players, and so
is Adamantite and Runite. Coal is most often mined in the Mining Guild,
Barbarian (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../ftopic32651.html#) Village and the wilderness Coal mine.
------------------
| Gold: Level 40 |
------------------
Gold is also a crafting metal. It is used to make gold jewellery and
amulets. Gold is only profitable is you are able to smelt it, as you can
sell the bars for high prices.
---------------------
| Mithril: Level 55 |
---------------------
Mithril is one of the high level ores. It is mainly mined in dungeons,
the swamp mine, and the wilderness. Mithril equipment is usually in high
demand, as it is strong and usually affordable to level 20s. Just don't
sell any of it to shops, you will know what I mean. From now on, I will
often refer to Mithril as Mith. Don't get confused.
------------------------
| Adamantite: Level 70 |
------------------------
Adamantite is very similar to Mith, in it's concept and demand.
Adamantite is also mined in similar places to Mithril. I will refer to
Adamantite as Addy, so I won't have to type so much.
--------------------
| Runite: Level 85 |
--------------------
Runite, or Rune, is the crowning glory of any player. Rune is the rarest
and most sought for metal, and by far the strongest. Anyone who can make
or mine Rune is exceptional. Very few people can actually mine and smith
Rune. Rune is found in the Hero's Guild, VERY high level wilderness, and
maybe on Crandor Isle. I'm not sure about the Crandor Isle and Hero's
guild one, I've never been to those places
After the ore is mined, you must smelt it. To smelt, you must take the
ore(s) to a furnace. There are three furnaces in f2p, one near
Lumbridge, one in Falador, and one in Al Kharid.
Falador:
Falador is the most commonly used furnace, as it is both the most
accessible and the most crowded. There is a nearby bank, where you can
withdraw ores and deposit bars. This is by far the best place to use,
but others are still accessible. There are actually two furnaces inside
the building, so it is easier to smelt.
Lumbridge:
The furnace is fairly accessible, but there is no nearby bank. If there
were anvils there (which I am not sure of), it would be an excellent
place to sell iron or bronze armour to newbs. If, that is, they can
afford it/begged money off other people. Otherwise, it is not a very
good place to smelt, as there is no nearby bank.
Al Kharid:
Al Kharid, on the other hand, does have a nearby bank. Unfortunately,
the area is not very accessible, there is a toll required to enter the
main gate (you can always go the long way around), unless you finish a
very annoying quest. The furnace is not very crowded, and is very close
to the bank. There is a mine (the scorpion chasm) north of it, where you
can mine gold, silver and iron. Nevertheless, I would not bother using
this town, it's too far from where the action is.
Once the ores have been smelted into bars, it is now time to smith them.
This is the bit where you can make a lot of money. To smith an item, you
must open your inventory, click on the bar that you want to smith, click
on the anvil, and select what you want to make. Here is a list of the
smithing spots:
Varrock:
This is by far the most popular place for people to smith. In fact,
there are !Three! buildings where you can smith. One in West Varrock,
one in East Varrock (which also doubles as an armour shop), and one
where this creepy guy changes male armour into female armour (and vice
versa). Not to mention that the bank(s) are very nearby, the sword shop
is close, and you have an excellent place to make all sorts of metallic
killing devices.
Doric's Anvil:
Another good place to smith, it is NW of Falador, E of the Member's Gate
and S of the Goblin Village. The Shield shop is nearby, and so is the
mace shop (big whoop). Nevertheless, it is an excellent place to smith.
Too bad you need to do a stupid quest to use the anvils there.
Imcando Dwarf hut:
This is a very little known point far south of Falador. It is involved
with the Knight's Sword Quest. It is basically a small hut with an anvil
inside.
At first, while smithing, you can only make daggers, which are hardly
worth anything. That is why you don't make daggers. The best item to
make if you want to at least make the most out of your money is making
short swords. Short swords give the most money per bar, and that is
exactly why you should make them, at first.
But there's the catch. Two simple reasons why simply making short swords
is not worth as much as it could.
a) It requires 5 clicks of the mouse in different to make places to make
a single short sword. You can make 29 swords in a single sitting, giving
29 x 5 = 145 mouse clicks. That is going to wear out your finger a lot.
Until they can add hotkeys to Runescape, a RSI will continue to run
rampant through the online gaming community. Making stuff like kite
shields takes the same amount of clicks, it's just you can't make as
many kite shields in one sitting.
b) Firstly, understand how the shops work. In each shop, there are a
default number of items. For the default quantities of each item, there
is a set buying/selling price. However, once you start buying/selling
items, the quantity of items change, and so do the prices. The more of
one item in a shop, the lower the price, both for buying and selling.
The less of an item in a shop, the higher the price .eg. let's say, for
iron short swords (ISS), the default number of items is 15 ISS going for
91 gp each. If you buy an ISS, the quantity of ISS will be 14. The price
will increase slightly, to, let's say, 94 gp. On the other hand, if we
sold an ISS to the shop, the quantity will then be 16, and the price
will drop to, let's say, 88 gp. This change will also affect the prices
of your sale, and cumulatively as well (29 is a fairly large number).
Before long, you will be selling your stock at 50% below what you should
be getting, resulting in a great loss.
Learn from the wise, they say.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Iron |15 |12.5|1 Iron |Iron has a 50% chance of failing,|
| | | | |and it is completely random. You |

| | | | |bars out of 20. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Silver |20 |13.5|1 Silver |No use using this for raising |
| | | | |levels, Silver is just too hard |
| | | | |to mine to use for raising |
| | | | |smithing levels. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Steel |30 |17.5|1 Iron, |There's not much to say about |
| | | |2 Coal |steel. Just don't buy coal certs |
| | | | |and iron and turn it into steel, |
| | | | |you'd be wasting your money that |
| | | | |way. Mine your own coal. Unless |
| | | | |ur lv 48. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Gold |40 |22.5|1 Gold |Yet again, you can't smith this. |
| | | | |But you can sell gold bars for a |
| | | | |good price though. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Mithril |50 |30 |1 Mithril |There's not too much to say about|
| | | |4 Coal |it, just that if you can smith |
| | | | |this stuff, keep up the good |
| | | | |work. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Adamantite|70 |37.5|1 Adamantite,|You are definately on a roll if |
| | | |6 Coal |you can make Addy. Make it count |
| | | | |.ie. Smith it and make a ton of |
| | | | |money. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|Runite |85 |50 |1 Runite, |People who can make rune are |
| | | |8 Coal |rare. They already be on the high|
| | | | |score list. Rune 2 handers, |
| | | | |kites, and battle Axes are the |
| | | | |best to make. You should buy your|
| | | | |ingredients to save time and make|
| | | | |more for the actual smithing. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
------------[6. Smithing Tables]---------------------------------------
This is it. The most important part of this FAQ. This can make you rich,
or get you ripped off completely. Alright, I'll cut the crap and get on
with it. Enjoy!
(Note: The 'shop's prices' is the amount you can buy them from the
certain specialty store. Selling price is the price for selling them at
the specialist stores .eg. buy/sell daggers, short and long swords to
sword shop in Varrock, sell large and medium helmets to helmet shop in
Barbarian Village, etc. I hate general stores. They give horrific prices
for all sorts of items.)
(Another Note: General Stores are good for getting rare stuff that some
fool sold to the store. For example, you can sell a party hat to a
general store for jack all gp, but sell them to other players for 300k+.
Just thought you should know...)
(And yet another Note: There are no specialty shops for 2 handed swords
in f2p. However, they are good to sell to other players, as 2 handers
rock. Except Bronze 2 handers).
A little explanation about the categories...
Armour/Weapon: The name of the armour/weapon. Duh...
Lvl: Smithing level needed to make that item.
Bars: Number of metal bars needed to make that item. Is standardised for
all items.
Exp.: Smithing experience recieved for making that item.
Shop's Price: Price of buying that from a specialty shop if the quantity
is at it's default. Not all items can be bought from these shops. These
are marked with a @. Thank you Tip.it.
Selling Price: Price for selling to a specialty shop. Not all items can
be sold to these shops. These are marked with a @. And yet more thanks
to Tip.it.
Price per Bar: Price you get for each bar. Very important, for finding
what is more economical .ie. gives you a better profit.
Power: Weapon power. The higher the number, the more damage it can do.
Axes have a greater power that aim.
Aim/Armour: For Aim, it is how accurate that weapon is. Maces have a
higher aim that power. For Armour, it is how well that thing will
protect you.
Rating: This is rather tricky to gauge. Rating is how good this is to
make, usually for selling to shops. 2 handers are the best for selling to
other people, but plate mail is the best for selling to shops.
Bronze: 12.5 Experience per bar

Piece of advice: If you're making Mith equipment, don't sell it to the
shops. There is alot of demand for Mith, and you can get some pretty
good prices for it. Make stuff like Battle Axes, 2 handers and full
Mith.

This time, make alot of Rune 2 Handers. You can usually sell them for
around 70k gp each, and are the most powerful weapon you can smith.
Not to mention that medium-high level pkers tend to lose them regularly,
meaning more money in your pockets. Plate mail is not a very good
option, as people who can use them (you need to complete a very
difficult quest to use Rune plate) are not particularly common. Plus
hardly anyone tries (or wants) to lose them in battle. And you can buy
them from this NPC at north of Barb Village for 65000 gp anyway.
@ - Item cannot be bought or sold at specialty stores, you have to smelt
them yourself. That is the price you get from selling them to general
stores.
^ - Bullcrap!
(And yet another note: the price list should not be solely relied on to
find the prices of items, especially with other players. You may end up
losing a great bargain it you only use the selling price when selling an
item on the 'selling price' described in this FAQ. And these prices are
probably a couple of years out of date, so yet again, don't rely
completely on them. I am most unsure about Rune, as I have never worn it
nor smithed it.)
------------[7. Getting Started]---------------------------------------
This section is for those with low to medium-low level mining and
smithing (1-50). Anyone higher, I am sorry, but you're looking for the
wrong guy. Too bad you scrolled down this far to read this.
When you first begin the game (sign up, log in, etc), you have 1 for
every stat except for hitpoints, which will be 10. That will mean that
your mining and smithing will be on level 1.
At level 1, there are only 3 things you can mine: clay, tin and copper.
Clay is useless except for crafting, so you will be mining copper and
tin. When I first began, I would deposit everything except pickaxe in
Falador, go south to mine copper from Rimmington, go north to Falador,
store copper in bank, rinse and repeat. With Tin, I would start the
same, except go northeast to Barbarian Village, and mine Tin there. You
should try to get at least 150 of each ore.
Now comes the boring part, the smelting. At least it doesn't take very
long. Empty your inventory, and fill it with 15 Copper and 15 Tin. Go to
the Falador furnace, and empty your load into it, receiving 1 bar per 1
Copper and 1 Tin. Go back to the bank, rinse and repeat.
If you try, you would notice your smithing experience increasing
steadily. The reason I said 150 ores was to give you a head start in
your smithing abilities, so you could smith more profitable things
earlier on, and more of it as well.
As you know, smelting in furnaces gives experience as well. 150 ores
would at least raise your smithing level to 6, when you can make long
swords. If you look at the smithing tables, you would see that short
and long swords give the best return per bar, and the shop you sell them
to is both very accessible from an anvil.
The next step is the smithing. It requires both a hammer, which is
bought from general stores for 1 gp, and a bar. Go to an anvil, click on
the bar, click on the anvil, and select the item you wish to make, from
the tree:
/-- Short Sword (1)
/--- Dagger (1) /
/ /---- Scimitar (2)
Make: Weapon ---- Sword ------------------------
\ \---- Long Sword (2)
\ /-- Axe (Hatchet) (1) \
\--- Axe -- \-- 2 Handed Sword (3)
\ \-- Battle Axe (3)
\
\-- Mace (1)
/-- Medium (1)
/-- Helmet --
/ \-- Large (2)
/
/ /-- Square (2)
Armour ------ Shield --
\ \-- Kite (3)
\
\ /-- Chain Mail (3)
\ /
\ /---- Plate Legs (3)
\-- Armour --
\---- Plate Skirt (3)
\
\-- Plate Mail (5)
Arrowheads (1) (This option is not available in f2p, so I know
little about it.)
Nails (1) (You can only make nails from steel bars. Nails are
used in the dragon quest, which happens to be the hardest quest in f2p.
After you complete the quest, you can wear rune plates, which is pretty
damn good.)
At any one time, have 29 bronze bars and 1 hammer with you when
smithing. It is best to make 9 long swords and 11 short swords. Take
your entire stock to Varrock sword shop, and sell the load. Go back to
the bank, fill up your inventory again, and repeat.
Continue this procedure of mining, smelting and smithing until you reach
level 12 smithing. Only then should you change what you smith. There is
an Anvil very close to Falador, at Doric's Anvil. You cannot use this
anvil until you have completed a simple quest, which is to obtain
several ores for Doric. After you have completed the quest, you can use
his anvils.
This time, instead of smithing long and short swords, you must smith
square and kite shields. They also give good returns, and are fairly
close to Falador's shield shop. This is also a lot faster than smithing
short swords.
Once you hit level 16, begin smithing plate legs and skirts, in equal
numbers. Unfortunately, the leggings and skirt shops are in Al Kharid,
and there is no nearby anvil. However, legs and skirts give the second
greatest return per bar. Therefore, smith many legs and skirts, store
them in the bank, and once you have high numbers of them, go to Al
Kharid and unload them there. However, the shops there may have too many
of those items to be profitable, so a good idea is to switch to another
server and sell them there. Unfortunately, that means closing Runescape,
so it may take some time.
Once level 18 has been reached, rejoice. You can now make plate mail.
They give the best return of all these bronze equipment, and can be sold
very easily. In Varrock, there are three places where you can smith, one
of them happens to be an armour shop as well. You can make a load of
bronze plates, and sell them to the shop, leaving you with an even more
decent profit. As well as that, you can make full bronze now, allowing
you to sell them to new players at Lumbridge. Full armour is basically
plate, legs, and helmet, sometimes with weapon and shield. I've seen
them go for around 600. This can result in an extremely good profit.
Unfortunately, most people know the value of bronze, and it is
practically worthless. It is easier and more time efficient if you
simply make bronze and sell it to the shops.
Plate mail should continue to be made until level 21 smithing can me
gained. Then, you can make iron long swords. Once again, mine a lot of
iron, smelt them, and turn them into iron long and short swords. Then
sell them to Varrock swords, and make a handy profit.
Once level 23 smithing is obtained, begin making square shields at
Doric's anvils. Once your smithing is level 27, also make kite shields
with the squares. At level 31, make legs and skirts. However, you can
sell iron legs in Varrock, at the same place you sell plate mail.
However, don't sell too many at a time, you will get a bad return.
Instead, sell some and store the rest in the bank, for later pickings.
Therefore, just make iron legs when you can.
And finally, at level 33, you can make Plate mail, selling them in
Varrock as well. I recommend making as many plate mails as you can (5),
sell them, then switch to acother server and sell them there. That way,
you will get more money. Simple. Full iron to other players also sells
much better than full bronze does.
I do not recommend going straight to steel, steel is somewhat
uneconomical. Of course, you can mine coal and iron and smith it, but
you are not going to make a profit until you can make steel plate. On
the other hand, steel gives far more experience than that of iron, and
sells to other players well. Don't make steel shorts or mediums, no one
cares about them enough to buy them. Concentrate on 2 handers, battle
axes (very good), leggings, and plate. Don't bother buying the bars it's
not worth it.
I have not smithed Mithril yet, unfortunately. I do know that Mithril
sells very well to other players, having used to be the owner of full
mith.
Addy and Rune are very good. Once you have that high smithing, get set
for a lot of easy money. Especially Rune, there is a lot of demand buy
medium to high level people who keep getting PKed and losing Full Rune
plus 2 Hander. As well as that, they are often very rich from other
methods (Strength Potion making, Lobster/Swordfish fishing, mining,
etc). Anyone who can smith Rune can expect to be a millionaire with
some effort.

------------[9. Smithing related quests]-------------------------------
Doric's Amulet:
This is a very simple quest involving a dwarf smith. Doric lives in a
small house NW of Falador. He is making an Amulet, and requires your
help (that guy who runs around according to where you click) to get some
materials for him. These are:
6 Clay
2 Iron
4 Copper
You can mine all this cra... stuff from the dwarven mines. I hate clay.
It's only found (I think) in the dwarven mines, and dwarves are annoying
as hell. When you're on a low level. Which you would be when doing this
quest.
As with nearly all the quests, you get a reward. Once you give Doric his
stuff, you will recieve 180 gp, some mining experience, and the
permission to use Doric's Anvils. Good thing as well, it's in a pretty
good spot.
What I dont understand is what amulet would use 6 clays, 2 irons and 4
coppers. I'm guessing ammy of accuracy, which you get from a quest. It's
very good, but you can only get one per character. And the quest
requires you to kill ALOT of imps.
The Knight's Sword:
This quest is alot harder. Go to the White Knight's Castle (DO NOT
attack those knights unless you are at least level 40. You will get
owned), and talk to the squire. He's on the ground floor, in case you
don't know. He say's that he has lost (dropped somewhere) Sir Vywin's
favourite sword. In the world of Runescape, nothing that lies on the
ground stays there for long. Drop an iron long at Lumbridge and dozens
of newbs will pounce on it like hungry animals.
Obviously, you need to make a new sword. This is no ordinary sword, it
has been in the family for generations and you don't have the skills to
make one. The only people who can make a new one are the Imcando
dwarves. However, there is only one Imcando dwarf left, who lives in a
peninsula south of Falador. However, this guy has a serious attitude
problem, and will not help you.
Instead, go to the Varrock Library, and talk to Reldo, and ask him about
it. He will tell you that Imcando dwarves love Redberry pie, so make
one. However, you need a cooking level of 10 to make it. You need
Redberries, pastry dough, and a pie pan.
To get pastry dough, get a jug or bucket, fill it with water from a
sink/fountain/well, and get a pot. Pick some grain near the windmill
near Draynor, then climb up the ladders to the top of the windmill. Use
the grain on the hopper, then operate it. Climb down and use the pot on
the flour. Use the water on the pot of flour and pick pastry dough from
the little menu that pops up. To get redberries, buy them from Port
Sarim food shop, or grab one which respawns around Varrock. I recommend
the latter option. For a pie dish, you need lvl 3 crafting. Mine clay
from Dwarven mines or SW Varrock and use water on it. Take it to
Barbarian Village and use it on the potters wheel and select pie dish.
Use the unfired pie dish on the pottery furnace next to you, and you
have a pie dish.
Use the pastry dough on the pie pan, to get a pie shell. Use the
redberries on the pie shell to get an uncooked redberry pie. If you
don't know what to do next, I laugh at you. Hopefully, you haven't burnt
the pie. If you have, empty the dish, and get more dough and redberries.
If you have a redberry pie, then good on you.
Then go all the way back to the Imcando Dwarf place. His name is Thurgo.
Give the Redberry pie to Thurgo, and he will tell you he needs a picture
of the sword. Go back to the squire, and he will tell you that Sir Vywin
has a picture of himself holding the sword in the upstairs cupboard.
However, if you try, he will personally stop you.
Get a friend (or ask someone out there) to talk to Vywin. By that, I
mean another runescape player. While he's being distracted, go to the
cupboard and take it. Don't worry, it will respawn for some other guy to
steal.
Go back to Thurgo, and give him the picture. He will then ask you for
materials: 2 iron bars and 1 blurite ore. The iron bars are easy enough,
I've been telling you how to get them all through the FAQ.
The blurite ore is way harder. You must go into the ice caves and mine
then in there. Unfortunately, the place is infested with ice warriors
(level 5http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif and ice giants (level 6http://www.onrpg.com/boards/../../modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif. Ice warriors are aggressive, Ice
Giants are aggressive only if you bump into them .ie. walk AROUND them.
You should go on a server with many people online, and hopefully there
will be some other people training there. Run to the end of the dungeon,
mine the ore and get out. I recommend carrying a 2 hander, plate mail
and a pickaxe. That way, if you get slaughtered in there, you can get
resurrected with the weapon, plate mail and the ore. Aww, you lost a
pickaxe...
Actually, what I did was carry nothing but a pickaxe. I ran to the end,
mined some blurite ore, and committed suicide on the ice giants.
Another thing I found our are that some people are absolutely terrified
of getting killed, even if they have nothing to lose. My friend sells
Blurite ore for 5k each. Very nice profit, considering how easy it is to
get Blurite ore.
Anyway, go back the the dwarf, give him the junk, and you will recieve
the sword. Equip it if you like, and, WTF! The legendary sword is weaker
than a steel long? The blurite sword has 11/11 statistics. Why couldn't
Vywin just get a rune long or something? I guess the only reason it was
'legendary' was that it was a rather fancy sword. Screw the fanciness,
swords are for hacking people's head(s) off.
Anyway, go to the squire with the sword, and you will complete your
quest. Your reward: a ton of smithing experience.
***As a side note, if you're strong enough, kill some white knights with
that sword. That would piss them off***
------------[10. Runespeak]--------------------------------------------
k -1000, as in 3k meaning 3000, or whatever. Don't say it
like k3, that's just stupid.
gp -The currency used in Runescape.
Rune -The ultimate metal in Runescape. An unflattering blue
colour, but once you have it, you won't bag it out.
Runes -Items used in Magic.
Addy -The second strongest metal. Happens to be an ugly green
colour.
Mith -The third strongest. Also in an ugly blue colour.
Scorpion Pit -A well known mine north of Al Kharid and south of Varrock.
Infested with annoying scorpions, hence the name.
Pk -Player kill. Best done with pures, they go around in the
wild killing people for their equipment. Thing is, attacking another
player gives you a 'skull'. This is basically a little skull icon (like
the ones on death runes or the wilderness marker) floating above your
head. Normally, if you die, you lose everything but your 3 best items.
With a skull, you lose *gasp* everything. However, you can use prayer
and save one more item, which works if you have a skull. Anyway, the
skull lasts for 20 minutes before it disappears. Meanwhile, every other
pker will be trying to kill you for your stuff. Pking is best done in
groups.
PkPker -Player killer killer. In other words, you sit around in
wilderness looking like a fat juicy target, and let other people commit
suicide on you. Also best done in groups. One guy attacks another, gets
ranged by yet another. Talk privately as well, so people can't tell
you're working together.
Wild -The wilderness area of RS, a wasteland of annoying
monsters. Also where you can Pk. Organised into levels, who you can
attack depends on the level wild you are in. The deeper you go into the
wilderness, the higher the level. In level 10 wild, a level 40 can
attack/be attacked by a level 30, but not a level 29.
Pure -Someone that specialises in 1 or 2 combat stats. The most
common are attack and strength pures, who wear weak armour and have
r2hs. There are attack pures, who have rune battle axes. And Range pures
who have high level ranged with 10 hitpoints. defense pures who wear
full addy or full rune. Generally, your main character should not be a
pure. And yes, you can have more that one Runescape characters. The best
thing about pures is that they have a habit of losing their
r2h/addy2h/etc. Sell away!
Ranged -Has next to nothing to do with cooking. Has everything to
do with bows and arrows and shooting them at people.
Impure -Someone with generally even stats. They are the best main
characters.
PBs -Prayer Beasts. A pure with high prayer. Uses prayer and
monk's robes.
r2h -Rune 2 hander. The strongest weapon in f2p.
f2p -Free to play. Don't need to pay to play.
p2p -Pay to Play. Get all these cool extras.
Lumby -Lumbridge. N00b spawn zone. I recommend turning on 'block
all messages' to get rid of those FREE GP PLZ.
b axe -Battle Axe. Tend to miss alot, but do way more damage.
Brb -Be right back. They log off, but will come on again soon.
Ty -Thank you
Np -No problem
Nm -Nevermind
------------[11. Tips]-------------------------------------------------
* It is easier to do one thing at a time. For instance, it is better
mining all of your stuff and storing it in the bank before you smelt it
all, and then smith it all.
* Take a look at the smithing tables. Some things sell at a better price
per bar than others. For example, would you rather smith an iron dagger
that takes up one bar and sells for 21 gp, or an iron short sword that
also takes up one bar but sells for 54 gp?
* Hardly anyone buys bronze equipment. There is no point making them if
you intend to sell it to others. Iron is better.
* Consider what would you buy yourself. Would you want to buy an iron
medium helmet? I would more likely buy iron large helmets. After all, it
is much stronger and not that much more expensive.
* If buying or selling stuff to other players, take a price that is a
median of the 'shop price' and the 'selling price' in the smithing
tables. That way, you would make more money than selling to the shops
and they would get a lower price than buying at the shops.
* Plate armour is the best for selling to the shops. They are quick to
make, and sell for tons.
* 2 handers are the best for making to sell to other players.
Unfortunately, you can never tell when you are going to get a deal, so
it is better to leave some hammers and bars in your bank, so when you do
get a customer, you can sell to them.

I'm a 14 year old Asian-Australian from Sydney, Australia. I like
alternative-rap-rock type music like Linkin Park, the Offspring, Eminem,
POD, System of a Down, Blink 182, stuff like that. I don't like boy
bands. But then again, who does?
My RS character, Daemonicguy, is a level 51 as of 30/3/2003. I have a
pure - Aznpsycho, which also happens to be my screen name in CS. He
happens to be level 5. I play
Counter Strike on a LAN caf, Warcraft 3, but not online.
I am against the war on Iraq, as I feel this is an American
imperialistic attempt to subjugate a sovereign nation (Iraq) in an
attempt to control Iraq's oil supply. I condemn the 9/11 attacks as it
has brought so much hatred and tension onto this world, on both sides. I
consider Saddam Hussein is an arsehole.
I would generally consider myself centre-left politically.

I'd like thank:
Jagex and Andrew, for making such a kickarse game. Keep those updates
rolling!
Tip.it, for making a comprehensive (if slightly update unfriendly)
website. And that very good smithing table. Not to mention the
experience tables/programs. Sorry if I couldn't contact you, my email is

--==I. Introduction==--
Perhaps one of the more profitable member's skills is Thieving. In the
beginning, you will only be able to make small amounts of money, but once you
get high enough, you will be able to easily get loads of GP, Nature Runes,
silver, gems, and more. It is also needed in several of the Member's Quests, so
it is definitely worth training. There are four methods of thieving... Stall
Robbing, Pickpocketing, Looting Chests, and Picking Locks.
Version Information
-------------------
v1.0 - 3.21.03 - Just made the basic Thieving Guide. Maybe more updates in the
future.
--==II. FAQ==--
1. Which way is the most profitable?
It really depends on your level. For the most part, chest looting is the best,
because you can get lots of rare items fairly quickly (blood runes, gems, etc.)
If you aren't high enough to open the big chests yet, try your hand at stealing
from guards. If you are below 40, it doesn't matter too much, because Thieving
isn't as profitable at that point.
2. Which way is the best for leveling up?
For fast leveling, I would go for pickpocketing, since there is no delay
between steals at the lower levels. The best spot for men is in Edgeville, for
Farmers, the farm area north of Ardougne, for Warriors, Al Kharid, and guards
in Falador or Ardougne Town Square.
--==III. Beginner's Guide==--
Thieving starts out fairly slow. At first, you will only be able to rob from
men for a meager 3 gp a time. Men are in almost every city on the map, but I
would recommend going to Edgeville at this point.
At level 5, you have a choice. You can keep stealing from men, or take a trip
to Ardougne and start stealing from the Baker's Stall. While you get better
rewards from the stall, and more xp a time, there is a delay between when you
can steal from a stall, and there are often other people there, which slows
progress down there greatly. Personally, I would recommend stealing from Men
until...
When you get to level 10, go to the farm area north of Ardougne, and choose a
group of farmers to start stealing from. You will get more (8 GP) from these
guys, and a bit more xp.
After reaching level 20, you can steal silk, but I recommend that you stick
with farmers. Silk gives you 10 more xp per steal, but it can be tricky with
all of the guards hanging around by the silk stall, and often there are a lot
of people already there.
At level 25, go all the way back across the map to Al Kharid. Here, you can
steal from the purple-suited warriors. There are tons of these guys there, so
you should be able to get a lot of xp fairly quickly.
Once you get to level 32, you can risk going into the wilderness and stealing
from Rogues, and at 35 you can steal furs. Personally, I would work with
Warriors up until level 40, when you can steal from guards...
From here, it is up to you to discover the rest of the wide variety of thieving
skills and learn the tricks of the trade. Refer to the tables below for more
information.
--==IV. Pickpocketing==--
In the beginning, the only thieving skill you can do is pickpocketing. Every
time you steal from a character, you will get a small amount of gold, or in the
highest levels, rare items. There is always a chance that the person will catch
you, and in that case, they will start fighting with you.
------------------------------------------------------------------
|Pickpocketing |
|----------------------------------------------------------------|
|Lvl |XP |Character |Reward |
|----------------------------------------------------------------|
|1 |8 |Man |3 GP |
|10 |14.5 |Farmer |8 GP |
|25 |25 |Warrior |18 GP |
|32 |35 |Rogue |25/40 gp, 8 air runes, or lockpick |
|40 |47.5 |Guard |30 GP |
|55 |85 |Knight |50 GP |
|70 |152.5 |Paladin |100 GP and 1 chaos rune |
|80 |275 |Hero |100/200/300 GP, Fire Orb, Diamond, |
| | | |Blood Rune, Gold Nugget, or Wine |
|? |? |Gnome |Random (any non-quest item) |
------------------------------------------------------------------
While Men, Farmers, Warriors, Rogues, and Guards have no delay in how often you
can pickpocket from them, Knights, Paladins, and Heroes have a short delay
between when you can steal from them.
--==V. Stall Robbing==--
The second method of stealing you will most likely encounter is Stall Robbing.
Starting at level 5, you can try to sneak off with something from the stalls in
Ardougne. At first, you can only steal cakes, but if you manage to get your
thieving up to 75, you can enjoy the immense riches of stealing gems.
---------------------------------------
|Stall Robbing |
|-------------------------------------|
|Lvl |XP |Item |
|-------------------------------------|
|5 |16 |Cakes |
|20 |24 |Silk |
|35 |36 |Furs |
|50 |54 |Silver |
|65 |81 |Spices |
|75 |100 |Gems |
---------------------------------------
--==VI. Chests==--
In your journies across the game, you will most likely encounter chests that
will have traps that damage you when you try to open them. You must search for
traps on the chests to disable them, and then you will be able to open them to
reap the reward.
**Table is incomplete... there are quite a few more chests than this, and I am
currently in the process of obtaining their information.
-------------------------------------------------------------
|Chest Looting |
|-----------------------------------------------------------|
|Lvl |XP |Chest |Loot |
|-----------------------------------------------------------|
|10 |7.5 |Wilderness - Axe House |10 GP |
|26 |25 |2nd Floored Ardg. Bld. |Nature Rune, 20 gp |
|47 |140 |Hemenster (need lpick) |5 st. arrowheads, 20 gp |

|72 |500 |Paladin Bld. Ardougne |1 shark, 1 adam ore, |
| | | |1 uncut sapph., 1000 gp |
-------------------------------------------------------------
--==VII. Lockpicking==--
The last thieving skill is lockpicking. This is one that most people do not
train on, as it doesn't reap a reward and doesn't give very much xp. It is
mainly a way for people with high thieving to access certain areas.
**Table is incomplete... there are quite a few more lockpick doors than this,
and I am currently in the process of obtaining their information.
--------------------------------------------------------------
|Lockpicking |
|------------------------------------------------------------|

Runescape is a massive multiplayer adventure on the internet, with monsters to kill, quests to
complete and treasure to win. You control your own unique character who will improve and become
more powerful the more you train and play. What makes this game fun is the ability to do
whatever you want!
You can go explore the huge Runescape world or earn a living practicing a craft such as cooking
or smithing. Many of the characters in the game can give you quests to go on, each with
different rewards. If you are brave you can search for riches in the dungeons but make sure you
are well armed! Try your hand at archery, or learn some magic spells to give yourself an extra
advantage.
The game is a huge virtual world which means you will meet many other people in the world who
you can communicate and trade with. Make new friends and go adventuring together to stand a
better chance against the stronger monsters. Perhaps you want to make your money trading
valuable goods with others. Or if you like taking risks, you can choose to fight with
like-minded people to try and steal their treasure. There are so many things you can do!
RuneScape isn't a game you can just finish in a week, it's a game which has never ending
possibillities.

In order to even start to do anything in this huge world, you will first need to learn how
to get around. Fortunately movement is fairly simple, and is just a case of pointing the mouse
at the point on the ground where you would like to go, and clicking with the left mouse button.
A small yellow cross will appear to confirm that the request was recevied, then a few
moments later your characater will start to move. If the yellow cross appears, but your
character doesn't start walking immediately, then just wait a few seconds, as it may take a
few moments before anything happens. Your character will walk until his/her feet are at the
point where you clicked on the ground, and will automatically work out how to walk around any
trees or obstacles which may be in the way. If a yellow cross does not appear it usually means
that the place that you would like to go is inaccessible.

To interact with an item you must first point your mouse at it. Look at the top left of the
screen and you will see what you can do with that item. For instance if you point at an object
you will see that you can 'Take' the object, this is the default choice. To access more options
you must right click the object/person. When you request the action a red cross will briefly
appear to indicate it was received. You may have to wait a few seconds for your character to
perform the requested action.
For instance in the example on the right, the player is pointing at one of the characters in
the game, in the cornor it might say "Talk to Lowe". By LEFT clicking on the character the
player could start a conversation with "Lowe". By RIGHT clicking, you would see a menu with
other available actions.

To view the map - point your mouse at the 'map icon' at the top-right hand corner of the screen.
A map of the surrounding area will appear.
- The rest is pretty simple:
- Objects on the ground are shown as red dots
- Monsters and game-characters are shown as yellow dots,
- Fixed locations such as trees & tables as light-blue dots
- Other nearby players are shown as white dots
You can also "Quick-Walk" round the landscape by clicking on where you want to go on the map.

Not much to it you type in a message and it will appear above you head for the whole of
Runescape to see. If you only want one person to see the message you can use the "Tell" command.
E.g. If you wanted to send a private message to Acekiduk you could put- tell acekiduk Where are
you? Meet me at Varrock. All Acekiduk would see is Where are you? Meet me at Varrock.
To add to the excitement of chat you can put colour in your messages. Before you type a message
put any of these codes in front and the message will come out in that message:

He'll tell you of the Black knights planning to destroy the white knights with some secret
weapon. Your task is to find out what it is, and sabotage it.
Go to the Cabbage field beside the monastary and take 1 or more cabbages, then go to Black
Knights Fortress (a bit west of Monastary) You'll notice the front door is locked, and the
guards won't let you in the side door. Why? You don't look like them. To get in u need a Guards
uniform, Medium Bronze Helmet and Iron ChainmailAfter getting in go through the "odd looking wall" which is at the north Wall when u get in,
go up the ladder. You see a "Grill" and u can choose listen by left clicking it, u will see the
Black Knight Goblin, and the witch will start to speak to each other. It's an invincibility
potion they're making, and it needs a cabbage from Draynor Manor to be complete. Any other
cabbage will destroy the potion
Go back down the ladder, you see a room next to you with 3 Black knights, try to go in and one
of the Guards tells you that you shouldnt go in there, because the black knights are gonna
attack you. When u get in there, 1 Black Knight will attack you, but just run from the fight or
kill the Black Knight if u can. If u press the other door in the room, a Black Knight will
attack u, so make sure all Black Knight's are busy if u want to go thru the door, (good to get
friends with u attacking the BK's).
Go upstairs, climb the ladder, at the north wall is a "odd looking wall". Go through it and
"use cabbage with hole" (Make sure you "use" cabbage not eat it like i've done countless times)
If you made it correct u will say "that must have ruined the secret weapon" or something like
that.
Reward: 2500gp, 3 quest points

In Port Sarim, go to the pub and talk to the bartender. He will mention the goblin war over the
colour of their armour.
Go to the goblin village in northwestern part of the map and talk to General Wartface & General
Bentnose. They will inform you that they are looking for a new look for their armour. You will
then need to obtain 3 sets of goblin armour, which are a random drop item attained from killing
goblins.
You will now need to dye the sets of goblin armour to change their colour. Talk to Aggie the
witch at Draynor Village, she will inform you of the ingredients needed to make dyes.
Aggie will have told you the ingredients to make red, yellow, and blue dyes, and that she
charges 5gp to make each dye. Collect the following items to bring to Aggie so that she can
make the dyes: Red - 3 redberries, Yellow - 2 onions, Blue - 2 woad leaves.
Redberries can be found south of Varrock or in Food Shop, onions can be found behind the
farmhouse that is south of the windwill, or in the garden that is north of Rimmington near
Falador, woad leaves are obtained by talking to Wyson the gardener at the Park in Falador
(be sure to offer him 20gp to get 2 leaves and you have to ask the Aggie about woad leaves;
if you don't Wyson the gardener will not talk to you.).
Bring all the ingredients needed to make red, yellow, and blue dyes, as well as the 5gp fee to
make each of the dyes (15gp total), and talk to Aggie. She will make all the dyes for you.
Combine the yellow & red dyes to create an orange dye. Then use the orange dye on one of the
sets of goblin armour, and use the blue dye on another set of goblin armour. You should now have
one orange set of goblin armour, one dark blue set of goblin armour, and one light blue set of
goblin armour (original colour).
Return to the goblin village and talk to General Wartface & General Bentnose. You will give
them the orange set of goblin armour (which they don't want), you will give them the dark blue
set of goblin armour (which they don't want), and finally you will give them the light blue set
of goblin armour (which they are quite satisfied having the original colour armour).
