Well first off if you picked a dwarf rogue, that's your first mistake. Since you say you're a noob, and I am now convinced you are ( refering to the poor dwarf rogue choice ) combat is honestly your best choice right now, regardless of what all the PvP videos say is the best build. Getting blade flurry and adrenaline rush might not be that bad of an idea, but you could always start working your way down assassination.
Once you get a little more familiar with the rogue and its abilities, then maybe try a sub/assassination combo or different builds.

There is nothing wrong with being a dwarf. A dwarf rogue has a racial called Stoneform, which coupled with cloak of shadows, completely rids you of ALL debuffs. If you ask me, thats pretty damn nice.

Yeah that's nice, but there are WAY better choices, and aside from that how many dwarf rogues do you actually see? Not many.
really you want to go on your official wow forums and ask lvl 70 rogues or just look at the builds already there and actually alot of rogues say dwarf is one of the best races for it

Alright lets break it all down to race then.
Dwarves: Stoneform, a rather useful racial that can be used to get rid of bleeds and poisons. This includes all the debuffs warriors can cause, and other rogues poison dots and blind.
Human: Perception. This one is only useful if you already know theres a rogue or druid around you, basically defeating the purpose of it.
Night Elf: Shadowmeld. Alright, you get some points in Master of Deception free. Well, builds dependent on stealth are still going to need 5/5 in this talent anyway. Mind you, it is a way to get 3 free talent points.
Gnome: Escape Artist. This one is a nice way to get out of crippling poisons, concussive shots, get rid of all the snares from a frost or slow mage. Its instant and does come in handy from time to time.
Blood Elf: Mana Tap/Arcane Torrent. The mana drain is really insignificant at 70, but the best part is once you get 3 stacks of mana tap, you get a free 60 energy and a silence for 2 to 3 seconds, Cant remember how long exactly.
Orc: Their Bloodrage racial (I think thats what its called, I personally haven't played an orc) increases your attack power at the cost of some healing done to you. Its pretty good, considering if you need healing most of the time as a rogue, your going to die anyway. Nice way to boost your damage for 15 seconds ever 2 minutes.
Undead: Will of the Forsaken. Alright... This one is one of the best you could have, Breaks Sleep, fear, and charm effects on you, and makes you immune to them for another 5 seconds. Obviously this coupled with the PvP trinket is quite a powerful combination.
Troll: Berserk (I think thats its name). Basically, it increases your attack speed based on how much health you have. The lower your health, the faster you attack. This is nice on combat rogues where the white damage is a huge part of your overall DPS. You could pop this right before you get a heal in a raid and get a nice boost from it.
Now, its not my place to decide for you what the best racial for a rogue is, but most of these are really nice. This doesn't take into account the races other passive abilities, like the humans +5 (or 10, can't remember) to Sword and Mace skills, but I believe this shows you how good the dwarf racial is compared to some other ones.

If you're making an Alliance Rogue, I'd say pick Gnome. Escape Artist can really come in handy. If you're going Horde, choose between Blood Elf and Undead. As Balross said, WotF is EXTREMELY helpful and can really save you at times. Blood Elves have the ability to completely shut down most casters though, which is usually the biggest problem in the first place.
Again, nothing is wrong with Dwarf Rogues. You don't see many of them manly because the race is just ugly. Also, you'd be unique, and everyone would love you!

Did you just say parties hate subt rogues? lol..
Subtlety gives the rogue just about as much utility as they can have in groups. And who doesn't love imp sap?

Improved sap is no longer a talent, and all rogues have it now. The talent that replaced improved sap is Dirty Tricks, which lowers the energy cost on blind and sap and increases the range of sap by 4 yards.

AKA: Shit.
I personally prefer the Combat tree. Massive DPS right there, and later on in the game if you can find some decent Claws you'll tear right through stuff. Combat and Assassination are two good trees, if you ask me. Mutilate can be really nice!

I've played every rogue spec, and lost much gold doing it ^_^
I went assassination to subtlety to combat and back to subtlety. If you're an assassination/mutilate spec, I don't like the fact that you have to heavily rely on poisons for damage.
I am a sub. rogue and proud of it! =]
