Well, I see alot of spam topics laying around, and getting locked, and getting their links deleted. So I ask you this,

Why just not delete the thread?

for example,
http://www.onrpg.com/boards/shameless-promotion/319-free-lineage-ii-c4-join-us-today/
ok, now see thats a waste of space, its just a locked topic, overtime these locked useless spam topics build up, into thousands, tens of thousands, like in the old onrpg.com forum.

Also the more topics and posts the slower the forum loads, so why just not get rid of it?

Let me capsize-

Deleting useless spam topics gives
(Pros)
-A nicer looking forum
-Less job for the moderators (removing links and then locking, instead of just hitting delete).
-The locked spam topics that usually build up have no use whatsoever to anyone.
-Faster forum loading (Talking about long-range).

{Cons:}
The people who posted "someone lock this" etc...
will have -1 post count.

anyway, thats just my suggestion ;)

Well it would keep the forums cleaner but I believe Xenonight2 told me that they keep it for reference. So they know peoples offence so they know to ban or just warn.

i see... but in case of a ban, such as this one.. its really unncessesary.
This forum might even have a system in which it keeps the reason why this person got a warn... donnu im guessing..

btw you beat Lothia here XD

Yeah I guess if the guy got banned then they could close it but only if its a perm. IP ban. Cause he might be back.

Yeah! I beat Lothia.

IP bans dont really help...
any idiot can use a proxy..
even without a single program.. (dont wanna say too much lol)

and.. i just disconnect my router, and then connect it back and i get a new ip... lol *cough* *has a blast on fooling rapidshare* *cough*

vBulletin can see past proxies, I believe.

And yes, we keep topics as references in case a rulebreaker comes back again. If he comes back again, we may IP ban them. However, if we delete all the posts made by the original account, we will not know of it when we do an IP check. Therefore, it will seem as if it's a brand new member, and we'll just ban again, and delete again.
Rinse and repeat.

A vicious cycle.

The only case when we delete a topic is:
1. When it's a total spam topic that TONS of people spammed in. This only happens when game topics go wrong.
2. When the rulebreaker makes several rule-breaking topics. We delete all of them except one to keep as a reference.
3. When we go mad with power. Thankfully, that's only happened once, when Vendayn left with a bang.

Well any ways I will post now. I am unsure but at times we usually do not delete because we want the post count. How ever now we have something called "soft" delete which makes it so the moderators and still see the posts and a reason why it was deleted; but I am hoping it keeps the post count in the total amount. If so we will probably be deleting them more times then we close them. All moderators are slowly getting use to the new system so we are going to have to do things differently; this is one of these cases most likely

The system is a good one as I see it.It is a bit more organized if you ask me,Not saying that the last way was unorganized. But its pretty great to see topics and threads on going and finally finalized to a key point.

ZOMGORLY LOTHIA?

Heh. Nevermind, then!

I'll have to try out this soft delete thing when I have a chance!
