When you purchase the game in-store you get 30 days free to play. The only "code" from other players are a World Pass (Allows you to play on same server as person giving code... This is obselte now as you can freely choose servers) and the Gold Pass (This basically hoosk you up with a friend, FFXI sends you and friend prizes ever so often, and you and person with pass get a special hat that allows you to adventure together no matter the character levels).

It's in the new Vana'diel Collection 2007. You still have to have a copy of the game to install and then use the pass to play the game. It seems you also only get access to the areas and such prior to Chains of Promathia as well unless I understood wrong.

Sweet, you can choose the server now? I used to play back around the time it first came out and this was one of those things that always bugged me. I don't plan on playing again as I've stopped playing MMORPG's several years ago, but good to know!

I played for a few years. The only thing that really kept me playing was the fact you could play all the classes with one character. But i hate games with predetermined stats like ffxi , wow etc.

All I can say is.. Have fun spending 6 hours installing and updating. Excluding the large download time for the initial several gigabytes of content.
However, it is a great game, when you start. Especially with the coming of the summer festival.
