View Full Version : Hardware/Software troubles-Performance lost

I'm pretty sure i've lost game performance on my system since it went to "fix" itself.I let someone else, supposed to be an expert, mess around with my computer, removing every part of it and reinserting it,after finaly finding out(claims he) it was a wire, which was malfunctioning.
All was fine until i started getting Blue Screens of Death.I finaly found out that the cause was my RAM,because i exchanged my RAM into each other's place (2 RAMs,make 1024MB) in a frustrated attempt.I also think one of my RAM was ripped off and they put some other RAM from the same brand.I have no proof but since the RAMs are different and i never messed with my RAMs since i bought my PC...They both should look the same.

Now,i've been getting performance losts on my games and i'm sure of that.Let's take a look at Overlord.Sure it has high recommended settings but a X1600 PRO 512MB,with NGO ATI Drivers,1GB RAM and a P4 with two CPUs running at 3.2GHZ could run it at middle settings without sweating. But sure, since Overlord is a new game i'll give you another example-RF Online.

Yes,i bought the game for 10€.I'm pretty sure i can even max it out but i've been crashing and getting Bloo Screened even at middle settings.

I dunno what's happening,i haven't changed a thing.

First,i never got Blue Screened EVER!

Second,i've been running the same NGO ATI drivers i was.

Third,i MAXED OUT RF on a popular, crowded private server of it (By crowded,i mean like 100 people in town.I had to lower it to medium settings on Chip Wars, thought).

If you guys could kindly help,i'd appreciate it :).I'm going to do my best next year to pass the 9th grade and to get a 1000€ budget for a custom build.

PS:I've just remenber,is it cooling related?I've got 3 CPU Fans running, one for the processor,a case fan, setup near the processor and close to the graphics card and it's the strongest fan i have, one near the hardrive and then i have the power source fan...I'm wondering if the processor needs thermal paste thingy?I put in some 5 months ago...maybe more.

PSS:According to System Requirement Labs:

CPU
Minimum: Pentium 4/Athlon XP or better
You Have: 2 processors running - Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz
CPU Speed
Minimum: 3 GHz
You Have: 3.12 GHz Performance Rated at 4.68 GHz

This is my CPU power.I guess we can say it doesn't have a fancy name like Duo Core but it acts like one, inferior to one thought.

It's probably your RAM. Call up your manufacture and ask for information on your type of RAM(ie: brand and such) that should be in your computer.
If the one stick doesn't fit what they are saying, then it's confirmed that you were scammed.
But I already put it at a 90% chance that it's your ram.

Huh?
Wut?

Anyway, unless any settings were changed(ie: FSB speed and such, to over clock it) it should not be overheating.
You should though check that the fans are spinning correctly. Mostly the CPU fan(case fans sometimes are set to turn off when not needed, so those shouldn't be a bit worry, it's the CPU fan that is important)

Overheating?I've checked and the last time i put thermal paste on my CPU was about a year ago.Should refuel it,i'm pretty sure it's REALY dry.And last time i checked,i had all my fans working.

I wonder if it's possible to confirm my RAM.I got this off Staples for 750€ three-four years ago.By then it came with a 9200SE PRO.I changed it by November to a X1600 PRO 512MB.In February,i had self restarting issues with the computer.Turns out it was a wire,so he claims.I never had issues before he messed around with my computer,i seriously doubt the X1600 PRO caused this.At the time,i feared my power source (200W or 300W,can't remenber) wasn't enough. But it worked just fine.

Worse is i had few pictures of my original configuration, when i had to send it to them for them to clean it and they took a picture of the dust inside, but with all those formats,i've lost them.Oh and Blue Screens of death point to RAM or video card issues. My guess is the RAM sucks so the graphic card fades out, making the Blue Screen reports claim it's it.It might be software related, thought. He installed Vista Transformation Pack but it's not like it's a memory hogg or anything.

Ah, it could very well be the transformation pack. Buggiest POS. And a uninstall could very well not fix the problems that it brought you.

At this point in time, there are like 50 different logical reasons for your problem.

If you want to make sure it's not your RAM though, there is this program that can check your RAM. It's called something like memtest. Google it, download it, and follow the instructions.
If it brings up any errors, it's your RAM.
If not, then the next solutions are the video card, software(could be the VTP, the OS, buggy drivers, or any other kind of software), the hard drive, the motherboard, and a lot more.

I ran Memtest for 1-2 hours a few weeks ago.No errors.I'll leave it on tomorrow.

I guess...*sigh* Another format.Geez,it's like the 6th alredy!I'll try to uninstall the VTP.
