Say it ain't Woo: Stranglehold on PS3 - REGION LOCKED

John Woo's anticipated Stanglehold will be region locked on PS3, following the logic that, since the collector's edition comes with a movie (a cool, HD remastering of Hard Boiled) , it needs to be region locked. Okay, we're with you so far. So that means the standard edition, without any bundled movie, will be region free. Right? Midway? Sony? Anyone there??

No, the standard edition will be region locked as well. And while this is but one title in a quasi-special circumstance, the precedent is cause for alarm. Every step back to region distinctions empowers companies to falsely inflate their entertainment enterprises. And in a global marketplace filled with educated consumers, we know when things really aren't "new" (I can't even stand seeing games at E3 that have been in Japan for months).

Sitting on my porch in my rocker, watching region-restricted content whiz by...I don't like this situation one bit.

Just out of curiosity but how'd you get your desktop outside?

And gotta agree with you on the E3 part. They should release the games in America and then Japan. WE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU!

Japan makes the games don't they, or Japanese people make the games and rather send to Japan first.
Or PS3 sales are better in Japan so they sell there first

It sells best in New Zealand and Australia. Pretty much sucks everywhere else. :-/

I just hope there won't be much region-locked games, making the games region-free was such a great idea.

Most of them wont be. This is only because of the movie thats on the disk, it just saves time to region lock both versions.

Thats why Sony didn't go with it. :P

I'd just wait...I'm sure some 1337 bunch will find a way to rip out the encryption. Oh wait, its on Blu-Ray, the disc of the future, my bad.
