well i just finished death note, one thing is bugging me. Does light end up as a shinigami? Does it say in the manga? all i want is a little closure on the end. [ cause i think it sucked]

yeah the ending is a bit off. Light died without actually fulfilling his "mission". Even Misa is just shown standing in the roof top (we never got to know if she jumped or not). I felt a little pity for Light though, i kinda like his character

Isnt he killed by Ryuk?I heard that if u use the deathnote you cant go 2 heavn or hell

yeah he was killed by Ryuk. He promised Light that he will be the one to kill him. Besides, he will die anyway even without Ryuk writing Light's name in the death note. He lost a lot of blood during the confrontation with Near.

In the series, on the last episode, at the break slides (you know the ones that say the rules of the DeathNote). The final rule about the DethNote was revelead as two parts.

1) (you know this one) He who uses the DeathNote cannot attain Heavan nor Hell.

2) That which awaits those who have used the DeathNote is Nothingness.

The manga also says this, but what Ryuk says, means that yes, if you use the book you go to nothingness, if you dont use the book you go to nothingness

Let me correct myself, I just went back to watch the part. It says:

1) All humans, without exception, eventually die.

2) After they die, the place they go is MU (Nothingness)

Simply put, its the same philosophy that keeps poping up in animes like this. "Those who have excessive power to change the world can never be allowed to live in the new world which they have created."

I finished reading the manga, i think things will be more interesting. Questions like "Will Kira return etc?" will now surface. And who's that girl in white? Is it Misa?

In the beginning when Ryuuk told Light that users of the Death Note will never go to Heaven or Hell, Light replied with something along the lines of: Of course, Heaven and Hell don't exist, only thing after death is nothing.

Using or not using doesn't change the ending, in the end, after you die, there is nothing, its like you ever existed except in the memory of those that knew you. After Light died, he DID NOT become a shinigami, his existence simply disappeared as with all others that die.

Oh, and at the end, all those people (all followers of Kira that believe that he is simply resting and will one day return) are gathering together to celebrate their sacrifice to Kira (basically, Misa is committing suicide, thus, offering herself as a sacrifice to Kira).
