I have somewhere around 40-45 friends on AIM and at least 3/4's of them have already threatened to kill themselves, or have had problems, and they all come to me to do it. They all ask me for help! WHY THE **** DOES IT HAVE TO BE ME?!?!

I mean, some people I actually like helping, and I have no problem with it...but when people start to threaten to kill themselves it gets kind of annoying! And, I mean, this doesn't even all come from AIM, I have lots of friends in real life that do it too. WHY?! What the **** is wrong with people? And why am I, a 16 year old high school student, their counselor?! It's starting to piss me off and I just need to get this off my chest.

I repeat, I'm 16 years old and still in High School, and people always ask me to solve their problems because they think I'm some kind of Dr. Phil! They ask questions about their relationships, life, death, suicide and all that kind of shit. LIKE I KNOW! I don't study these things on a daily ****in' basis! And what's worse is that they don't even take my advice! WHY THE **** ASK ME IF YOU WON'T LISTEN?!?!?! And the sad part about all of this, is that I can never say no to anybody who asks me. >_< So I always eventually cave and help them anyways! I never really minded, in fact, I welcomed it because of the fact that I may seek a career in psychology in the future, but after having to help 13 people in the last three hours has set me over the edge.

I know this was a kinda short rant, but I REALLY needed to get this off my chest, and I don't care if anyone flames me. I just wanted to let some steam out...

evry one in high school is a bloody atention seeking whore, its the new ''COOL'' thing to pretend to have problem and wanting to kill yourself. none of them will go through with it. its easy to tell apart a depresive person from an atention whore.

I am the exact same way, and it's a real ***** sometimes. I often say yes to things that I really don't want to do (and I should have worded that better knowing this forum), and it leaves me miserable sometimes, but I'm always there for people whether I like it or not. For me saying no is pretty hard usually, unless it's smoking or beer or whatever, then I say no haha.

Sometimes I'll hesitate or sigh loudly or try to come up with an alternative hoping for them to change their minds but that doesn't usually work. I just can't say no.

And before anyone says it, no I don't do anything sexual for my friends. This also means I do nothing with their family or my family, or animals, or cartoon characters, or myself, or a building, or anything.

Anyway I have had to talk to a few people about killing themselves and I don't mind it (I meant I don't mind talking to them, not I don't mind them killing themselves). It's just annoying because I could talk to them for an hour or two or three and the next day nothing would be any different. They'd still do their bad habits or whatever, or be mopey and all that. Talking to friends can help but it can only go so far...some people just don't learn though.
However it is a nice feeling if they do feel better, then you feel like you did something to help them, and usually if you have a talk like this with a friend it will strengthen your friendship by a lot, though it depends on the person.

Sammy, if ya dont like doing it, you don't necessarily need to be mean but just seem distant. I think for some people it may actually be serious but others could just be taking advantage of the fact that you care.

Well, that's the thing, and I know this is going to sound weird, but I'm actually good at helping people. :-/

I don't know what it is, it's like a subconscious sort of thing that kicks in whenever someone asks for help and it pulls knowledge out of the deep depths of my mind that I never knew I had. And not once has anyone told me that I gave them bad advice, so I don't know what it is. I'm just sick and tired of being the only one people go too though, they have counselors at the school for a reason. -_-

i've noticed it too back then, that one or too people were so incredibly melodramatic that they're fake their suicide attempts.

The very contradictive thing with suicide and those people you are talking about is that in most cases (i exclaim most), people commit suicide because they didn't want anyone to help them, or didn't find anyone to do so.

those people you talk about, probably advertise their so maniest attempt, in hope to get some major attention and comfort from girls (if it are boys of course)

people tend to talk to me about their problems too, but only (close) friends. But the toughest problem i've heard so far was the brink of a real depression.

Well, I've had conversations with people where they didn't listen to a damned word I said. For example, just last night, one of the people I was talking too kept denying my advice over and over again, yet it's the fourth time he's asked me for help. -_- It's just really frustrating. :-/

But I don't mind helping out people when they got issue that needed to get work out.But it really is a gift that people come to you since they are willing to find answers in themself through you.So you should consider that a big factor.

Also helping them will make you realize and solve any problem that you might encounter easier in the future.So there really no downside to helping alot of people out.

make a new acc, they wont see you log on, you can talk to people you want to talk to, problem solved =D

Ive had this problem as well as millions of others at one point. Just distance yourself from that person more. Say theres not much you can do. Listen for sometime but tell them they need real help.

I forget the links that Manic posted a while back where they help people out in need like that.

Ask Manic for the link, introduce your friends the link and ask them to socialize with their problems.
