TGS 2007: Rumble Confirmed
Sony's controllers will shake again.
by Anoop Gantayat
September 19, 2007 - Big shocker at today's Electronic Arts pre Tokyo Game Show press event. While playing a demo of Burnout Paradise, we felt something that we never thought we'd feel from a PS3 controller -- shake!

That's right, Burnout Paradise is the first rumble-equipped PS3 game we've ever played. Which made us think at the time, if the game is making the controller shake, the controller must be a new version of the Sixaxis!

In fact, the controller we were using to play the demo looked exactly like a standard Sixaxis, except that it had a sticker on the bottom that said "RUMBLE." It also felt notably heavier than the standard Sixaxis.

We presume this is a prototype of the PlayStation 3's new rumble controller, whatever it's going to be called.

The rumble itself felt around the level of PlayStation 2 rumble. We're not sure just yet if Sony is using any of that next generation technology Immersion has been talking about for the past few months.

A formal announcement is expected tomorrow at Kaz Hirai's keynote address.

As for the rest of the EA event, as well as details from today's Sony and Konami events, check back at IGNPS3 through the night.

Word up. For those who actually really wanted it.

People made a huge deal about it being gone, but they probably won't care that it's back.

It's nice to see rumble back, not that I liked it this much.

But the sixaxis just wasn't heavy enough, at least to me.

Quoted for a massive amount of truth. It's been so long that the PS3 owners could probably care less.

I actually don't see why people missed it. The added lightness (err that doesn't seem correct) replaced for rumble. The PS3 was going for realism and if you were shooting off an AK into somebody, you wouldn't feel it "rumble". Sure it'd move some but it wouldn't be anything like a rumble, so I don't see what the huge problem was.

That rumble felt good on my penis.
And, now it is back.
Say hello to pleasure, Mr. Penis.

....

Personally, I could've cared less if Rumble came back or not. Six-axis is more realism than rumble.

English, mother****er! Do you speak it!?

Yes, I actually do. If only my keyboard wasn't this bad. I would be typing much more properly, without having you in a perplexed state. Now, it's night time here, I've been studying, and the least I need is shit from you.

Okay, thank you and goodnight. Bye.

Dude, you really like wasting away your posts, ahaha. This kind of off-topic-ness is no wonder you have more than four thousand posts. Holy shit. Haha. I still think they should get rid of the posts counts.

Rendascus used dots. Oh well. I easily understood every word of it.

Rumble: Whoop-de-****ing-doo. Aha. I love the light feel of the new controller.

According to the devs we've talked to: tons of control over the strength. It doesn't feel like a gyro spinning in the controller... it just vibrates. and it's very localized to either side of the controller. When explosions happen in the environment behind and to the left of you, for example, you get a little thud on the left side of the controller. It definitely feels like an improvement over DS2.

In other words if you get shot on the left, it will rumble on the left side first. If you get shot in the head, it will rumble at the top of the controller. Totally next-gen stuff.

Not really. That's only a good 100-200 posts. The other thousand comes from news and arguments. :-/

Tell the truth, I only understood the first sentence. Got kind of ridiculous after that. Not saying it was never ridiculous, however.

In other words if you get shot on the left, it will rumble on the left side first. If you get shot in the head, it will rumble at the top of the controller. Totally next-gen stuff.

...I can only imagine how much weight that controller will gain.

Its about the same as a 360 controller, might even be a bit lighter. The added weight makes for a better experience and is a great improvement over the light as air Sixaxis model.
