Looks pretty damn awesome, dling atm, but dude, if it doesnt have interactio (such as Savage) then its simply a modded RTS. If say, we could control any given unit from a first or second perspective then it would be a MMORTS

if only graphics were a little bit better then id play it again, but overall gameplay and stuffs very nice

i think the graphics were pretty good, sure not next-gen but it's PS2 worthy.

First of all, this is not an MMORTS. This is just an RTS with multiplayer support like Command & Conquer 3 etc.

Secondly, the devs of this project - at least their main goal was to recreate Total Annihilation and bring it up to speed for current systems and add new stuff to create a new game. Which they've done very well.

Also, Spring is a fairly well known game at this point. Its been out for a long time, and been developed for a long time. Its been covered before by some gaming sites, IGN and Gamespy have done stories on the game I believe in fact.

Either way, if you loved Total Annihilation, you'll love Spring. And as a standalone RTS game, its rather good also, plus its free and open source (for the most part) and as I said, supports multiplayer (with some rather neat mods around now also) so go for it.

Well, Total Annihilation games were always more about the Gameplay not the graphics am i right?

Supreme Commander is the spiritual successor to Total
Annihilation.

Spring is now a stand alone game with its own engine or something - that can be clarified on their forum. Its not MMO though they are now debating this possibility thanks to a flamewar with me lol. Looks nice for a multiplayer and has enough variability with mods and gamestyles to satisfy those who cannot cope with MMORTS :)

Ive known about this game for a while... and you have to remember what it says on the site...

"This installer contains everything you need to play TA Spring, including the core files, two different maps, and the TA mod XTA. This mod, like all TA mods, contains content from the game Total Annihilation. Therefore you will have to own a copy of TA to legally use this content."

Its not stand alone. Period.

I have to agree there and had a big row with them on their forums about that also. Swiftspear came back and apologised for not updating aspects of the site since the revamp and the thread trailed off there...

Yes it ships with the TA mods but probably wont much longer now this issue has been highlighted. And use of the word 'Mod' is highly contentious on that forum and again will probably change soon to calm the flames.

As to your tone and the little trumpet i swear I heard at the end... what's your beef? It has been clearly stated its multiplayer and linked so all the info needed is there - either MMO side which would ignore it or the RTS side which will chew it up.

As to the content - dont play the TA related components and no need for TA. There are many more and many better.

It's stand alone, but you need to own TA to legally play it.

Bottom line is it doesnt matter - you play the TA mods (two i think) and should own it or you play the many other mods in which case its stand alone. And I imagine it will be repackaged as standalone soon enough. Sometimes you download a game and its got a couple of demos with it - you dont 'have' to play or install them. And until you do your not subject to any T&C regarding them.

Spring is excellent Multiplayer online RTS and a good example of a vibrant Open Source community providing player desired content. To be celebrated surely? This all evolved from a Game mod - another excellent fact, that the developers allows scope for such creativity.

Even at my old age I can still find enough generosity not to just knock it or score points off the back of such a undertaking.

i don't like top down games, and it looked 2D. it looked interesting, but not like an MMO. I'm not tempted to play it.

Idd - doesnt claim to be MMO. for that try Boundless planet/Mankind/Timeof Defiance/Ballerium/Saga - all 3D MMORTS. Saga is in Beta endgame atm though but watch it - Mankinds demo is not working not likely too in the near future. The other twoeach have a weeks demo which isnt enough but nm. And Boundless has a Free to Play Weekend coming up soon - and hopefully more in the future.
