According to Microsoft, Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP offers you unmatched choice and flexibility for your digital media. You can easily manage your libraries of digital music, photos, and video on your computer; explore a new world of music through the integrated URGE music service; and connect with mobile devices so you can have your digital media collection wherever you want it.

Requires Windows XP to install and run, the software installation also requires a genuine version of Windows.

Wow, looks slick. But I still prefer Real. Much more organized and easy to navigate. Course, I'll give it a shot.

You might aswell get Service Pack 2, most Microsoft software that is released for XP require it. It isn't a very big download, (75MB-400MB), and you benifit from Microsoft's "attempt" at proper security.

You can download from Windows Update, or from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?DisplayLang=en&FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a

The problem with Service Pack 2 is that it came with some sort of anti-spyware/virus protector thing (Dr. Debugg, or something like that) that was totally screwed up. It wouldn't work if you had another spyware program installed, and recognized some good files as malicious. It caused me a world of hurt on my old comp, when I couldn't go to any of my folders (My Comp, My Documents, etc.) without it freezing up the whole computer. It was hell. So I uninstalled it, after spending hours on tech sites and talking to tech help lines. Fat lot of good they did.

So go ahead and get it, and if it messes up your comp, just go to add/remove programs and uninstall Service Pack 2.

Naturally, although it's best to follow precautions and back up your files.
Also scan for viruses before you install. Microsoft have encountered many a problem with consumers' files being lost due to botched SP2 installations.

But as I said, just a precaution. ;)

I'm still using Win. 2k I can only use Windows media 9. The $150 I'd have to spend on Win. XP doesn't seem worth it when Windows Vista is around the corner, with it's DirectX 10 majesty.

Actully, that was only in the first release. It was fixed with the next batch of updates, so you won't have that problem unless you somehow get your hands on the original version of the XPSP2 install.

I myself have never been happy with WMP. Who knows, this may be better, but I'm sticking with my winamp for my music. Nothing works better for me.
As for videos, I currently use WMP Classic, but who knows how this works.
But I'm going to wait till it's out of beta

Winamp is my preffered Media Player. I've heard about this for a long time, but too bad my Windows isn't Genuine. Ugh. I blame my daddy. :D

Just downloaded it, man it looks a lot better and is easier to navigate, though I can't find the media guide part where you can search for music.

BSPlayer FTW.

Wierd name. Great player. Similar to Winamp, but I find it a lot easier to use for some reason.

Coooool. It's so Windows Vista oriented. But that's cool. I think Microsoft is presenting us with all these Vista Styled programs now, cause they're gonna make us all switch to Vista.

No prob with me, Vista looks hot. xD;;

But like Internet Explorer 7.. it has those arrows looking so, buttonish. xD;;

I'm not allowed to download stuff on my Dad's comp. I'll get it when I head back to mine. xP

Thanks!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Windows Live. It looks Vistaish too. xP

The Beta version doesn't have one, I assume it's because Microsoft are "teaming-up" with MTV to create URGE. Which will eventually become the default download service for Windows Media Player.

Just to annoy iTunes........ Probably.

its odd of them to make a windows media player that DOESNT match with the skins that windows come with, and instead go completely opposite and do something out of the ordinary.

WMP11 was designed to go with Vista.
