OK my brother just got the game for Xbox 360 and he said he'd give me $10 to find out some things about the game,
Heres what I need to find out: What is the strongest sword in the game and the strongest overall weapon?
Thanks in advance if you can help me, :)

It all depends on opinions and your skill in the game. The Umbra is a crappy sword at the beginning when you have no Blade skill, but later on it does more damage than Daedric weapons. I would have to say roughly 30 with a good Strength and Blade. Overall weapons though...I would have to go with longswords or shortswords (shortswords swing faster) because Claymores don't end up doing much damage and they're 2-handed. So for best defense and speed I would say longswords are pretty good. Marksman is a good skill if you can find a good bow...otherwise it's useless. Here's a bunch of Oblivion mods and you can even find a program here that let's you create your own mods.

My personal favorite is Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. It mods some things that seem a little off and it really doesn't make much of a difference...but it kept me playing for longer for some reason.

Hmmm, thanks for the info. But i guess what im really trying to find out is the strongest weapon hands down, like without a high lvl blade skill. Im confused by what you say about longswords being the strongest because the staff Apothesis kills just about anyone in 2-3 hits and my guy is very weak, like lvl 5.
I don't know if what im trying to say is clear but its basically the strongest sword just based on its regular damage without anything else put into the equation, same with the strongest overall weapon.
Edit: by the way, you said longswords are the strongest, but can you please be more specific? like what long sword, because that is what im looking for. The strongest weapon, not the strongest weapon type, thank you

In that case, the strongest weapon I've seen so far with a good Blade would be the Umbra. The enchantment is kind of annoying though. I can search through the TES VI: Construction Set to find a very good weapon if you want?

Sure that'd be greatly appreciated, thank you. :)

He's lying! The strongest weapon is the Goldbrand! Umbra does have higher base damage though. Goldbrand has a high attack + 22 fire damage on strike I think it was. I love the game. Can't play it though. I crash every 10 minutes.

Goldbrand? Never heard of it. I've heard of the Chillrend, but never Goldbrand. If you want a great weapon (and I've tried this) try to get a Daedric Sword and enchant it yourself for 30 fire damage. It's possible with an ok willpower and a low Destruction. In the end it does 25 base damage (I think) and the added 30 fire. Not that great against Atronarchs...but still helpful.

Well as you mentioned the staff then the weapon with the highest damage is a selfmade staff or any 2hand weapon you started to specalize with.
Put an element based spell on it (use a 1600 soul stone) which does so much damage that it only can hold 1 charge. Not very useful, but hey you asked for the highest damage i guess.
Other than that, goldbrand is it when you are using swords.

If you read the descriptions for every class at the beginning of the game (I.E Mage, Archer, Knight) It says that the Mage holds a power keener than any blade. I cant tell you how true that is. Shure, you start out weaker than barney without his suit, but you end up able to make spells that do over 100 damage. The BEST weapon I'll say, is a spell called "Fingers of the mountain" in which you get during the Chorrol mges guild quest. The spell is a LEVELED spell, therefor you have to be... I'd say level 20+ before you acheive it. If you waited for that level, its damn worth it. Its a spell (Although is drains half if not all your magicka) that dishes out 200 damage in electricity... And the only being that has a decent electric shield are storm atronaches... I'm a level 56 Custom Class (Hellreaver if you must know). I'm a 1337 H4X4S4URUS.
Wrapping it up by saying: The best overall weapon in the game IS'NT a tangible sword or hammer, but a spell. Betca didnt see that coming.:eye:

i'd have too say either the umbra or the "goldbrand"? I think the "goldbrand" was a weapon you get from a daedric shrine quest. It has some nice fire enchantment damage.
Zealot you are correct 90% of all the enemies you encounter are better off being fried by a fire spell or zapped by lightning as physicial attacks do less and less damage due to the level-up system but spell immunity or resistance is not part of leveling up

Yeah, I'll admit, spells are good in the game. But for a warrior, they're useless, so they would look for tangible things, as you said. Really, I think the most balanced thing to do in the game is to be a Paladin, because with decent healing and damage spells, you can be unstoppable.
Think about it, you get into a fight with a strong enemy, and you have a nice sword that does a good 20 damage with a nice delay in the swing. A longsword perhaps. From afar, the enemy doesn't notice you, so you get a chance to cast a damaging spell. Judging from Paladin's magic abilities, it'd do a nice amount of damage depending on level. Somewhere around 50-60 I'd say. That's about three swings of your sword in one hit, and then you charge and kill. After the fight, you get swarmed by other enemies, but you aren't in the shape for fighting and on the verge of death. Well, luckily, you have your healing spells, which, as a Paladin, can be extremely good at even lower levels. And trust me, that happens a lot in the game, if you play on a higher difficulty.
Seriously, around level 15 I had a Paladin that did around 25 damage with a Daedric Longsword and had a nice defense. His attack spells did around 50-60 damage, pretty good, and my healing spells recovered about half my health and took almost no Mana at all. So really, a balance of magic and offense is best in the long run.

Goldbrand - Shrine of Boethia, it's located high in the mountains south/southeast of Cheydinhal. You do, however, need a daedra heart (pop in a realm of Oblivion for that, close the gate and come back.) for an offering. And level 20.
Basically, you have to fight one of each race that you didn't pick in the beginning (Like if you are an argonian, you have to fight an NPC of every choosable race EXCEPT Argonian) in an arena style match, one at a time. After you win, you get the Goldbrand as a reward.
So, basically; don't go for the Goldbrand. You have to be level 20 to get it, which doesn't help you at the moment. Just enchant a sword like Legion said, or go pwn up Umbra for her sword. (and decent armor for the time being, if you're spec'd in Heavy armor anyways)
Have fun with that though, she doesn't go down easy.

There are ways to kill her at lvl 1 you just need to jump in the right spot.
In the class list Paladins don't have healing spells if I remember correctly it was the Crusader.

That doesn't mean you can't specialize in them. :p And I didn't use anything in the Class List. I make my own. Hell, I don't think I've EVER picked from the class list...lol

i think Umbra was bugged in my game. I mean, i killed on her lv 6. using a bow with 13 damage and fire or light arrows which add 13 additional fire or light damage. her HP drained terribly fast, sure, he hit me for 1/4 of my hp (which is only 73 ?!)
so at lv 6 i had beaten umbra, that's no sports. i Checked wikipedia, she is supposed to be lv 50

Maybe your difficulty was as low as it can be? Cuz' I remember doing that and beating her easily once. Also, I don't think she has that much Magic Resistance, because with one of my mages, I knocked off a good chunk of her HP with a pretty weak spell. (20 Fire, 20 Ice and 20 Shock damage) Had her down too about 1/3 HP after one hit, and I was on the middle difficulty.
EDIT: GOD! All this talk about Oblivion makes me wanna play again. T_T I need to get a 360...

So yeah, I'm goin' for a 360 because it's cheap and I SO wanna play Crackdown again. XD Fun ass game. ^_^

Heh, no need! ^_^ Last time Oblivion wasn't working for me, it was when I had Oldblivion already installed, but I guess they released a new version because I'm now running Oblivion on higher graphics than I was before, with almost no lag. =D I'M SO HAPPY!!! lol

Your brother should do the mages guild storyline. You can get your own staff. I got an electric staff, and it does a good amount of damge if you have the money to recharge it.

Well destruction staffs arent the best for wasting the free staff since destruction spells are a dime a dozen. The staff is best for illusion spells since there more one time persuasion methods
