So, every time I try and boot up maplestory, my computer takes it upon itself to restart. Now, I've updated my graphics card to the latest driver (Nvidia Geforce4 40 MX) and I tried toning down things like monitor settings and such, and I ran the Setup.exe in the maplestory folder and everything came up clear.
I have a Pentium 4 processor (2.0 ghz), Windows XP SP1 (gunna update), 1.5 Gigs of RAM, 80 gig HDD.
Could anyone help me at all?
It's an issue with Game Guard.
Go to your Maple Story folder, delete the folder named "GameGuard", and just start up Maple Story normally. It'll re-download Game Guard on it's own.

i have the same problem and unfortunatly the only solution i have found is to whenever you restart your computer is to open a chat program (ex. msn or aim) and leave a chat open (no need to chat) for 5-10 minutes to establish a stabil connection to the internet the shut it off and maple starts for me everytime. If i dont do this my Computer restarts. I dunno if this will help any but it works for me i've tried deleting game guard but it just reinstals and does the same thing

Why shouldn't they? It's not like Maple Story is extremely stable.
Oh, and do what Rryok suggested. If it doesn't work, consider the possiblity that you have a virus on the computer. But don't worry, it's probably going to work.

But be for real does anyone have these sort of problems with anyother game? This problem should have been fixed by nexon a long time ago if you ask me

You didnt answer my question and im not trying to offend anyone i should be bashing maplestory but its just a simple question i guess
He did answer your question, Maple Story isn't very stable. Most of the problems are with GameGuard, not Maple Story itself.

Well, all games have problems, which is why there are many patches. The problem is that Nexon cannot predict everything that's going to happen, since many of the problems only happen with some people. Sometimes they don't even know what's wrong, and they don't know where they could start to fix the problem.
Another problem is that not everything is in Nexon's control. Like BoomThunda stated, many of the problems are with GameGuard. Nexon's can't control that, and it's up to GameGuard to chance. However, since Maple Story isn't the only game that GameGuard works with, the programmers at GameGuard might not even know something is wrong because they see that Gunbound works fine. It's not Nexon's fault that you see corrupted GameGuard files. It's GameGuards fault. Think of it this way, imagine one day you're going on Onrpg and all of a sudden Onrpg is down. You wouldn't blame Gabriel for this because it's not his fault. It's the server's fault. The same concept applies here. Not everything is Nexon's fault.
Because there are so many different Computer/Operating System pairings out there, it' extremely hard for Nexon to fix every single problem. They are busy with other things, and if something is out of their control; they're just not going to deal with it.

Thanks for that Ryok, it helped, but it turns out the main cause was my graphics card. The fan was toasted so it overheated when it tried to run something like Maplestory. LAME!
