For those who need a guide, i can sort of help you since it took me a little while to figure out what I was doing. If requested I can go more in depth and create a new thread for it, but here goes:

Google Joytkey and download the file. Upon opening it make sure you have your device already plugged into to the computer. If it gives you an error staing "Make sure all devices are plugged in and you have directx6 installed." just restart you comp and try again.

So you have joytokey open. First thing you do is create a new setup.
1. Click create
2. Name it Maple Story
3. You'll see it say Joystick 1 and Joystick 2 at the top. Stay on Joystcik 1
4. You'll notice it says LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN. Don't assign these values. leave them disabled.

Now comes the hard part. Figuring out what the hell buttons 1-30 are on your controller. What i did was keep guessing until I had the correct set-up. but since I did that this will be a little easier for you. Remember this is only for a PS2 dual shock controller. So i'll list the button number and what button it is on your ps2 controller.

Button 1 = Triangle
Button 2 = Circle
Button 3 = X
Button 4 = Square
Button 5 = L2
Button 6 = R2
Button 7 = L1
Button 8 = R1
Button 9 = Select
Button 10 = L stick down (L3)
Button 11 = R Stick down (R3)
Button 12 = START
Button 13 = D-pad up
Button 14 = D-pad right
Button 15 = D-pad down
Button 16 = D-pad left
Butons 17-30 not needed

So your job is to figure what keys you want to assign to the controller. Here's my setup I used for my archer.

Button 1 = Triangle = Arrow Bomb
Button 2 = Circle = Jump
Button 3 = X = Double Shot
Button 4 = Square = Attack
Button 5 = L2 = Soul Arrow
Button 6 = R2 = Pick up
Button 7 = L1 = Health pot
Button 8 = R1 = Mana Pot
Button 9 = Select = World Map
Button 10 = L stick down (L3) = nothing
Button 11 = R Stick down (R3) = nothing
Button 12 = START = Mini Map
Button 13 = D-pad up = Up
Button 14 = D-pad right = Right
Button 15 = D-pad down = Down
Button 16 = D-pad left = Left

Whenever you want to use Joytokey for maple, open it first then run maple. It doesn't use a lot of memory or anything and runs minimized most the time.

Here's the link for the PS2 to USB adapter. only $10

you know...i just had a funny thought
you know the two joystick thingies on the ps2 remote...
what if you move it in a circular motion to use savage blow...that'd be funny xDD

might as well just use keyboard to chat or just ignore chatting till you stop ps2ing o.O

the controller is connected via usb adapter so your mouse and keyboard are still attached.

and the easiest way to figure out which button is what number is to go to Start>ControlPanel>GameControllers>DBL click your controller and press buttons on your controller and it will flash up its number.

joytokey

ZOMG THX! :)

Some time ago I bought an old gamepad (Gravis Stinger), there are no drivers for it for windows 2000 and above, but I thought I could write them myself.
I did, but weird thing, it didn't work in MapleStory. It worked fine in all the other software I tried, including text editors, games like Quake and HalfLife, but not MapleStory.
I thought I made a mistake in some non-critical part, and Maple was just sensitive to that part more than other programs. So I double, tripple and quadruple checked everything, I filled every variable that said "It's not used, you can leave it blank", , and eventually, I managed to get some progress- it would work with maple, but it wouldn't let me send arrow keys, so boo-yah.
I heard some people play with gamepads/joysticks, so I figured, perhaps if I coded a full-fledged windows driver, instead of a cheap key mapper, it would work. So I've spent weeks browsing cryptic Windows documentation, looking for a way to write an input device driver. Meanwhile the gamepad on my desk was mocking me.

And then I noticed this discussion about joytokey...
I won't be using the program myself, because the pad has no drivers, so it wouldn't work at all.
But it got me thinking, "if that program can do it, I can see how it does that, and mimic that". I did just that, and now it works!

MWAHAHAHAHAH It's aliveeee! It's alive! :D

I'll need to tweak the controls setup.
Perhaps add some GUI with settings.
I can share the source(or executables) if anyone's in need. >_>

Now. Off to "tweak the controls setup" :D

the thing is, you don't need to buy anything or chat... just sit on the couch and play without realizing you're pissing your pants...

edit:// sorry for bumping...
