Emulate some console JRPGs if you want something more linear and story focused.

I agree with him. Xenosaga or any of the Tales games are excellent choices. Both the storyline and the combat systems are epic in both series.

How about diablo 2 or the witcher? I am going to try witcher soon. Titan quest wasn't that well made i think, kinda rushed :(

Aw man, Xenosaga looks turn-based

and if you're talking about the Tales series that I'm thinking of, then they're for SNES (= turn-based)

I was looking for something more along the lines of Fable where you can slash and stuff by yourself

I googled the Witcher
http://www.play-girlz.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/witcher.jpg
If those are the ingame graphics, I probably can't even run it :(

the tales series is sorta turn based. but you don't have unlimited time to pick and choose your moves.

what bout guildwars? or dungeon siege. or gothic 1,2. DONT GET 3

Jae

Dungeon Seige looks too evil, and Gothic looks pretty good, but the text really turned me off (the ugly text on top of people's names
http://www.counterfrag.com/screenshots/gothic%202/2.jpg

Sorry I'm picky :S

I'm looking for something outstanding
For example, when Fable first came out the reviews were amazing, and people kept talking about it for a while

Turn-based is still turn-based. I'm looking for something that has real combat

I played Guild Wars, and that's not a single player offline game

Any other suggestions? Something to play while waiting for Mabinogi to come out in Open Beta

Xenosaga's battles are turn based, but the battle system is unique (except for Ep. 3, which is a ripoff of FFX's IMO)

And the Tales games are NOT turn based. They all use a real time battle system called the Linear Motion Battle System, each game has a different variety of the LMBS. The series timeline spans almost 15 years, from the SNES to the NDS and 360 (Tales Of Vesperia is coming out later this year, and it's probably for the 360). A rough gameography of the Tales series.....

Tales Of Phantasia (SNES, 1994)
Tales Of Destiny (PSX, 1997)
Tales Of Eternia [AKA Tales Of Destiny II in the US] (PSX, 1999)
Tales Of Phantasia (PSX, 2000)
Tales Of Destiny 2 (PS2, 2001)
Tales Of Rebirth (PS2, 2003)
Tales Of Symphonia (GCN, 2003)
Tales Of Phantasia (GBA, 2003)
Tales Of Legendia (PS2, 2004)
Tales Of Symphonia (PS2, 2005)
Tales Of The Abyss (PS2, 2005)
Tales Of Destiny (PS2, 2006)
Tales Of The Tempest (DS, 2006)
Tales Of The World: Radiant Mythology (PSP, 2006)
Tales Of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition (PSP, 2006)
Tales Of Eternia (PSP, 2006)
Tales Of Destiny 2 (PSP, 2007)
Tales Of Rebirth (PSP, 2007)
Tales Of Innocence (DS, 2007)
Tales Of Vesperia (360, 2008)
Tales Of Destiny, Director's Cut (PS2, 2008)

Note that the release dates for some of the games I don't quite know, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Dungeon Seige looks too evil

I don't recall Fable being too kid friendly, what with the decapitations, prostitution, and cannibalistic monsters.

Go find Mount & Blade. Problem solved.

Oh I heard a lot of good things about this game
I'll go check this out, thanks

Also I thought Fable was less "evil" than most medieval games. Dungeon Siege seems like Diablo

Btw, what were the cannibalistic monsters? o_O can't remmeber anything like that

Try Jade Empire: Special Edition.
It has an amazing storyline and has similar combat system as fable.

Really, REALLY easy, though. And a tad short.

Other than that, it was quite nice.

Actually, I never tried Mount and Blade. It just sprung to mind.

Jade Empire was really good, so you should like that one.

If you're into Star Wars as well, Bioware were the ones that created Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which I feel is one of the most enjoyable RPGs ever.

So if it suits you, definetely give it a try. Even if you don't like SW, you'll probably still like it.

Maybe you would like The Elder Scroll Oblivion : its like Morrowind but with better graphics and less confusing : now they alway tells you what to do (thats why I preferred Morrowind : you could do whatever you wanted to :P (and also in Morrowind the main quest is hidden at the start of the game, there is some guy you gotta ask if he have a job for you in the firsts buildings before to go in the city, and if you dont ask him you'll never know there IS a main quest ;))

Oblivion will most likely not run on my computer, because the graphics are too intense :(

I tried downloading Jade Empire but gave up because I couldn't find an activation code :(

Star Wars doesn't really apeal to me. Maybe a few years ago but right now the graphics look a bit too outdated

I guess it's back to GW for me :o

If you can run Black and White 2 on minimum : you can easily run Oblivion ^^ (you can lower graphics pretty easily and there's oldblivion XD)

Jae

Minimum System Requirements:

* Windows XP
* 512MB System RAM
* 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* 128MB Direct3D compatible video card
* and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
* 8x DVD-ROM drive
* 4.6 GB free hard disk space
* DirectX 9.0c (included)
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
* Keyboard, Mouse

I have an integrated graphics card (built in), so I have a feeling Oblivion will just crash like most games
(Never played Black and White 2 before o_O)

What's your graphics card? i was able to run it fine with a Ninvida 6,800 that was really borked and messed up.Also, you know theres a fable 2 coming out =D?

Jae
02-04-2008, 07:53 PM
I know, they've been saying that forever
But I haven't heard any new news of it

I don't have a graphics card, I told you
Built in = not a graphics card. It's a chipset

Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family

Haha, couldn't say it any better~.

I read someone saying The Witcher, I too would recommend that a title to look into, not AS open ended as Fable (Example: Marriage) but does have it's own depth.

I tried the witcher demo, but i didn't really like it. People said that combat was amazing but it was awful to me, the way its sorta like click and watch, but clicking once in a while to continue combos or w/e.

huh whats your graphic card... cause its possible to run oblivion on something around the Geforce FX 5200 (which sucks as hell) you know these are the minimums requirement but you can run it UNDER the minimum XD the worst possible is to have to use Oldblivion (it look like CRAP <_< ... or more like a play station game XD or worst...) (ow also if you can't run it ... do the main quest of Morrowind thats simple ^^XD ... just quest in morrowind no ones forces you to explore XD ... I like to do it thou ...
