I prefer animes more than the typical American movie where plots were made with a massive collection of 4 years old story or an exact copy of an asian movie. ( The grude, the ring, the eyes..) However, animes aren't really great lately. If you take a look at the over-hyped Naruto, Bleach and One Piece...it's just sad. Naruto is like DBZ on many levels but even more illogical. Bleach with awful drawings and things just get more and more ...complicate....and starwars were just implented..and One Piece is repeating itself for the?? 100x?...Now, theres ahrdly any anime worth to watch. Clannad, Gundam 00 ( startng to get lame...and boring)...and???

hate and "don't like" isn't the same..-_-

and there's really no good reason to hate it...

I don't hate it, I don't necessarily like it. I think the whole "genre" (as you people say) went downhill since the days of movies like Akira and Golden Boy. I just don't see what other people see in anime. I see a bunch of large eye'd, large headed, goofy colored hair characters with little to no storyline and a bunch of stupid phrases they like to spout off.

I do have my fair share of favorite anime's (Tenchi Muyo, Ergo Proxy, etc.) but the overwhelming amount of crap that comes out every day just doesn't thrill me like it does other people... Otakus come to mind.

I would consider it a desperate way for the animators to generate some sort of mild entertainment through pointless violence and barbaric actions that most teenagers, or children, find "cool".

There's nothing really wrong with anime. There are a few(or more that a few) cliches and boring animes, and that may seem to be the majority of what anime is, but its not. Anime covers every genre, and it doesn't have to be childish and random.

The eye's, you can blame on the US. It was Disney who got the Japanese to start drawing large eyes to better depict emotion in drawing.

And note, I haven't seen a large eyed anime in forever, it's a rather disappearing trend in mature anime.

Sure there are some scenes of cornyness, but the plot in most modern anime are far superior to the plot developed by US movies or TV shows. In fact, when dubbing companies take on some animes, they end up reducing a lot of the plot because they believe the US audience would be too stupid to fully comprehend what was going on.

Note, a really good anime full of plot twists and completely, "WTF?!" storyline that makes you go, "wow!" would be "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni". A somewhat good Sci-Fi that take place in the mid-80's in which everyone dies on the 4th episode, only to have the timeline reset on the 5th. Extreme plot-twists insue.

I study sinology myself and we have several of the same classes with those from japanology.

No offense, but what i notice is that between those japanologists are 25 emo's who just do it because it's part of their "culture" (Jp + emo => emo win), then the next 74 are hypers who study japanese to fully understand anime (hell, they are even drawing anime during class and discussing how their characters shows more emotion ...) and then there is this 1 person who actually does it to work in/with Japan later on.

But as good as all of them are anime-lovers.
And it's quite so becoming rather a pain in the buttocks.

anime is a huge trend that doesn't seem to die out, i've seen my fair share of animes, but id drop a good episode of whatever to watch a show like Greys Anatomy or Seinfeld, i do remember that when i was little Evangelion pooned the shit out of me cause it was so fucking awesome, but thats about it. The art and the low budget shows just piss me off, and the influence they have had on games pisses me off more, sure Mabinogi may be anime based, but other games like Deco and Seal were just made to fail because of the graphic style and game play.

Most animes that are hated are just the overly used mainstream kind like DBZ, Bleach, and Naruto (Especially).

I am an avid anime/manga lover and I find most of them to be really good with unexpected plot twists and interesting storylines.

As you all know, I am a Jin-Roh fan. Creator Mamoru Oshi did well with the movie, as did he with Ghost in the Shell, another anime I enjoy. Both the movies and series.

I agree with the more new gory anime just trying to reach out with all the teens who think gore is awesome, but Elfin Lied was not that bad.

I enjoy more mature anime, but not by means of "gory with nude people.", I speak of anime that holds a mature story. Also anime that holds some form of love between two characters, but somehow ends with tragedy.

Jin-Roh provided that. The story being a "could of happend". It takes place in an alternate past. Japan was thrown into another world war, this time they were enemy to the Nazi party, and Japan lost the war. A terrorist group known as the Sect declares a civil war on the Japanese/German goverment and day by day fight them.

Fuse, a young man serving in the special unit of the Capital Police, finds himself aiming his heavy German made machinegun at a young teenager one night. Why? She is part of the Sect, and not only that, she has a bomb! Fuse knows that he is in danger, but does not fire, he pleases with the young girl to not do anything... She shakes with fear, staring into the face of the man coverd in dark armor, with devilish red glowing gogs covering his eyes. The rest of the SU members find Fuse, as they were going solo trying to hunt down terrorists. When they get to his location, they yell at him to shoot at the young girl... Instead, he stares back at her, doing nothing. A second later, she pulls a string leading to her backpack... BOOM.

Ok so going fast now... Fuse feels bad for the girl, goes to her grave, finds another yound lady near her grave claiming to be her sister. They fall in love but later he finds she is not who she says. She is actually working for another police force within the government that wish to get rid of the Special Unit. They try to frame Fuse of doing something bad, but fail. The ending, well, you have to watch the movie.

ive watched 3 or 4 anime series in my time and i've only liked1 , neon genises evangelion , i haven't watrched anime in like 2 years though.

I enjoy anime, however i can admit some take it way too far. I see anime as a passtime, if i am bored i watch anime. I do not take it more than that. All it is to me is a TV show, not a way of life.

I liked voltron, and I watched some DBZ back in the 80's. Most likely long before some of you. Aside from that I watched some tenchi, ranma, evangelion, yuugi, and a few others. Most i didnt enjoy, but I did rather enjoy ranma because it never took itself serious, and was acually funny.

I saw i think inuyasha and naruto or whatever on cable once? Just to see, i watched a few more episodes, and I made a opinion about both.

Inuyasha is for is for girls who wish they were still a virgin and want to screw a dog.

It's not because we dont like it and want them to stop. It is because THEY lack the ability to understand anything but anime. Like on these forums. You take a childish anime looking mmorpg and it WILL be defended to the death, regardless of how bad it is.

I also think it helps generate a very unhealthy sexual and violent aptitude. Like the inability to hold their own in a conversation, using a respectable vocabulary, on their own without using a smiley face in place a sentence.

I blame the anime gene. Something either absorbed from the radioactive waves generated from sailor moon or DBZ tv shows, or from internet hentai zombie rushes. Hitler had it, Stalin had it, and.. most of the people on the forums have it.

Even I, a very big Anime fan, draw the line in places. There is some Anime that is down right DISGUSTING. Disgusting to the point of literally vomiting.

Seriously, this over-japanisation is become far beyond annoying.
I study sinology myself and we have several of the same classes with those from japanology.

No offense, but what i notice is that between those japanologists are 25 emo's who just do it because it's part of their "culture" (Jp + emo => emo win), then the next 74 are hypers who study japanese to fully understand anime (hell, they are even drawing anime during class and discussing how their characters shows more emotion ...) and then there is this 1 person who actually does it to work in/with Japan later on.

But as good as all of them are anime-lovers.
And it's quite so becoming rather a pain in the buttocks.

@ncyphe: i sincerely doubt that wall disney has anything to do with causing the japanese to draw humongous eyes on their characters.

And i'm tired of those "zomg anime has great storylines and Western series don't". What you do is you pick the somewhat out-of-the-ordinary series from a list of 12 000 generic anime series and generalise it to make it look like the majority has the same quality as that 1 good show.
Quite frankly, that's exacty the same in western series. Instead, what you do here is you simply ignore the good shows and only point out the generic ones.

Deimos already said so, it's usually about overdone expressions, a mysterious spikey hair teenager with at least 1 superpower trying to save the world.
Actually, I can't remember where I read it, but it's said that Walt Disney was the one who inspired Japanese animation. He had actually suggested the Japanese try drawing larger eyes so that they could better fit a more stylistic approach of depicting emotion.

And about the TV shows, while it is my own opinion, I have found very few TV shows worth watching at all. They just seem to treat the audience as idiots, which really bothers me. All of the plot is quite obvious and there is very little sub-plot. ow, I'm not saying all US TV shows are pawned by anime. Battlestar Galactica is one of those few examples that makes me go, "WOW!" at the complexity of the plot line, even though it's really starting to get trimmed down.

Oh, and the one who mention Grey's Anatomy as being better . . . O_o? That show has been done so many times before and it just drives me mad. My primary draw to anime is that most of the series is only 26 episodes long. You primarily start shows knowing that it will end and not drag on and on. Most US TV station constantly fight a struggle with the TV studios to keep certain shows on the air, just because at the moment it has high ratings . . . no care for quality. Example, Lost. JJ Abrams wanted this recently passed season to be the last, but CBS (I think that's who owns them) kept whining about contracts and keeping the series on the air. No respect fr the artist.

Let's see... Even though i'm one of the 70% who loves anime, i have to agree to those who hate anime, Anime lovers are taking it too far... Like DoubleDouble said, People let Anime take over their lives, and start coming to school dressed like an anime character thinking they are all cool n *Deleted* (I'm not allowed to say this lol). They should balance watching anime and doing other stuff like play sports, hang out with friends (the non-anime fans one), etc...

Seriously, some of you guys need to learn how to be patient and hear others out. I've been in Onrpg for a year now (4 months to be exact, since i started posting with my big brother's account XD) and here i've learned how to be patient, not letting my feelings to take over me.

@Icy: Yes, american animes are usually based on the Good vs. Evil theme, but that what's make them good. The plot is simple and easy to understand. They usually hate anime cuz sometimes the plots are confusing...for some people anyways... Ex. Kanon, Code Geass, Death Note, etc...
