Hey guys. Im turning 17 yet Im only 5"8. I play hockey frequently and work out about 75 minutes a day. Yet, I'm growing slowly. I know basketball/volleyball will help with my height, but if there are any exercises I can do in the gym or sport, please, share it with me! Thanks.

Basketball and volleyball will not help you grow. There are also no excersizes you can do to grow.

2 inches a month? LMAO, only time that could happen is with a drastic growth spurt, which inflicts great pain on your body (personal experience). Only way you can increase your height is by some seriously painful surgery. There is no natrual or pharmaceutical way to do this. Maybe at a genetic level, but its too late for that.
Also, the painful surgery I am talking about relates to breaking bones and wearing bulky metal frames for month to years on end. Also, they would need to use screws, pins, and adjust the frames every so often (streching).
Luckily, my children gained my genetic structure for height. My 12 yo son is now 6' tall. My 8 yo daughter is almost 5'3". And thats having Korean and Japanese bloodline.

Holy ***** Cyber. How tall are you? 8 year old daughter 5'3!?!? I was 5'3 in like 6th grade. Your son is gonna be a Yao Ming when hes 16, watch. :eye:
I'm 5'7, 16. I always thought drinking milk would make me taller. Even with how much I drink, still no real results.

working out won't help you. in fact it's bad for your body if you do it too offen without breaks once in a while.
basketball will help you stretch your body. but in the end, it's the genetics that will decide whether or not you earn the growing!
EDIT: its a myth! milk won't help you getting taller. drinking it is very healthy though and with the whey it should help you grow muscles and the calcium should make you get stronger bones. it might ( notice i say might) look like you are taller when you got bigger muscles and bigger bones. in that case milk is healthy, yeah. but its not like, you can become a basketball star when drinking milk.

LOL, I am the 6'5" tall Korean.
Yeah, he has passed me in height, but around his age is when I started to grow very fast. My growth slowed down when I was 16, at that time I was 6'2" tall.
Yeah, my little daughter wants to play basketball and be a cheerleader. My son wants to try basketball and play baseball. They both want to go into kickboxing with me.

What Cyber7chink is correct. There are NO WAYS TO "GET TALLER"...Your height comes from genes. All those stuff people say like "drink milk, drink water, uh...stretch, volleyball, etc..." THATS ALL PURE BS. Scientifically proven, height is a genetic characteristic from your parents...you can't somehow change ur DNA to be taller...
So basically...look at your parents. Are they tall?
Then you will most likely be tall as well.
As for my parents...my dad is like 5'8.
And im currently 5'6...not done growing yet.
Probably be around 5'8 when im 20 or so...
You see, its all genes and nothing else.
Also no offense dude to Cyber7Chink...but being tall isn't always a good thing. I mean yeah...for guys 6'0 is pretty tall and good. But if your daughter is 5'3 at 8 years old...holy shiz...man shes gunna have a hard time finding a bf taller than she is.
I'm "only" 5'6...and people say thats short. But i don't really even care lol. Nothing i can do about it, and im happy with the body i have now. And my gf doesn't think im short either.. im actually average in South Korea anyways.
Just be happy with the the height you are at now.
:3

Yeahhh! K-pride. :D
And dude if you came to korea...you'd be a giant lol.
wow 6'5...I remember in my junior highschool when i used to live in USA...there was this one guy that had some kind of Genetic Disorder (that makes your body grow faster than your brain? or sumthing like that) so he was like 6'10 or sumthing and he was only like 15 years old. We called him the "Friendly Giant," cuz he was always so nice to people, even though at first glance he's intimidating. When i look thru my past, almost all the "very tall" people in my school were very nice.
lol okay im going off topic, XD

You would be suprised at what genetic engineeering can do. But like I said, its too late for someone after they are conceived.

hey noobs
steroids dont make you taller, they shrink your penis and **** your liver
milk doesnt make you taller, it helps the regeneration of bones and is required for a healthy balanced iet
excercising doesnt make you taller, it makes you fitter and is required for a healthy balanced diet
surgery DOES make you taller but its painful, effects are questionable and its for people who are so pathetically depressed at their physical appearance that they really need to see a psychologist and not a surgeon.
genes DO make you taller. from the moment you split into two cells its already been decided wether you will be tall or short, have heart attacks or develop cancer naturally, have crappy eyesight or have eyes like an eagle. we can LIVE with these things but we cant totally control them.
jesus. ****ing "drink milk".... goddamn you guys. how many times do we have to have these threads before you will all realise.
you will never be like cyber7chink so stop trying.

THanks for the reply guys. I know working out won't make me taller, some exercises that are performed improperly could actually hurt your growth, I believe, like squats. I still play hockey regularly, and I drink a couple of glasses of milk a day. It's just most of my buddies are inches taller than me and I just want to grow as much as I can before the age of 18, or was it 20 that you stop growing? Anyway, thanks again for the helpful tips. 2 inches a month is too hard to believe, now that I think about it. I was probably just exaggerating it, because I do measure how tall I get over a period of time and it's not a lot.

There's no "magic trick" to getting taller, it's all genetics. You could, however, have testicles implemented into your knees, but then you'd only LOOK like you could play basketball.

When I was in middle school i used to be the TINIEST SHORTEST kid EVER, everybody used to make fun of me because i was short. In 8th grade i was probably 5'2 but that all changed after second semester,I made a promise that I will grow and I puted alot of effort into growing taller no matter what I had to do. My mom is 5'2 and my dad is 5'3. When I turned 14 I grew a solid 3 inches and was 5'6 and when I turned 15 I was 5'9. I hope I still grow taller btw :) It is hard to believe I actually reached this height because my parents are so short.. I mean one of my friend's is the same height as me and I have seen his parents before and they were like over 5'6, both of them o_o Btw I am Chinese and have a little Vietnamese blood. =] I'm planning to grow at least to 6'1 in the future

Nine hours is the required sleep amount for 17 year olds? I'm pretty sure it's much lower. I only just turned 15, and I only get about 6 or 7 hours of sleep on weekdays, due to all of my honors classes, and basketball. With school starting as early as it does, (Which is 7:20 AM for me), it's impossible for me to get 9 hours, unless I sleep at like, 9 o'clock.
However, I sleep like 12 hours a night on weekends. XD
The best you can probably do is simply to stay healthy, like getting the recommended servings of all the food groups every day, staying physically active, etc.

No one cares how tall you people are, no one cares how stupid the OP is, no one cares that steroids make your nuts small. And by no one, I usually mean me.

The greatest influence on height is genetics. Look at your parents, are they short people? Kill 'em and find some tall ones.
Okay, so maybe that's not a good idea. There's not much you can do though, nor is it all that important, but I suppose you could hope for a growth spurt in the next four years.
