Looking for a Simulation game to mess around with. Been running Ikariam in the background as I do other stuff and I kinda like it. Looking for a single player game similar to it. Setting I'd prefer Prehistoric, Cyberpunk, or Old West, but beggars can't be choosers. I like Ikariam because of it's relative simplicity. I get tired of micromanaging building electrical lines, water pipes, etc, so something a bit more simple is for me. Only games in past I've played similar that I enjoyed were Pharaoh and Stronghold. Not looking for a RTS, but something to just build and manage things in a unique environment. Thanks.

Black And White 1 or 2 are awfully fun, just because there are so many neat doodads laid down on the foundation to make it funner. Though spells that could feed a city or wipe it from the island in one shot is fun, the really cool thing is the creature you get, which you can train to be a pacifist or a killing machine (I picked the latter) I guess it is a strong RTS is some ways, but I think you'd like it because of the unique approach.

I have B&W which is a cool game. B&W2 I didn't care for as it didn't feel quite right. They aren't quite what I am looking for.

Virtual Villagers I will take a look at. Premise seems interesting at least.

I still remember playing games like Trailer Park Tycoon and Skatepark Tycoon which were so bad they verged on being good. :D

The Civilisation series. (you probably played these)
Settlers (even the old ones are fun)
Sim City
Caesar IV
Anno 1701 (highly recommend this one)
Tropico

Thats all I can remember off the top of my head.

Could find lots more if you want them.

No idea of how good any of the newer ones are. Sim City is just too annoying for me to play now. I get far too bogged down with the micromanagement aspect. Caesar I haven't played in awhile, so might be worth checking out again. Anno is good, but a bit more RTS than I want right now. Never did try Tropico so I might give it a test drive.
