As everyone who has ever spoken to me probably knows, Neil Gaiman is my favourite author. I own a lot of his stuff, from all his novels and both of his short story collections, to most of the Sandman graphic novels (including Death: The High Cost of Living) and a cd full of odd music inspired by his works.

Anyways, my favourite of his novels, American Gods, has been put up for free reading here, if you're interested: http://browseinside.harpercollins.com/index.aspx?isbn13=9780060558123&WT.mc_id=author_AmerGods_FullAccess_022208

pitcure of the author:

(the author himself says that if enough people read it they may just put it up for download, and also be allowed to put other books (ie. Stardust, the book that that movie was based on) up on the web as well.)

The book itself is kickass. Norse and other pantheons of gods (but especially the Norse gods) are heavily involved, for those who care, for one thing. There's a short story about Vikings at one point as well.

blurb:
"Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she's been killed in a terrible accident.

Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, a strange man in the seat next to him introduces himself. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible.

He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same"

I've already read Stardust and Neverwhere, but I think I'll stick with book format.
Sos I can read it in a more compressed time allotment.

I read the first two chapters and it looks pretty interesting. I've been noticing his books EVERYWHERE recently

It's probably because of all the films he's been involved with recently: Beowulf, Stardust, and Mirrormask, and there's also going to be an animated version of Coraline, and maybe a film of Neverwhere.

I picked up the book at the library last year and didn't finish the second chapter. No particular reason I stopped, I was just more interested in different books at that moment.

I might give it another shot sometime.
