View Full Version : Saturday Night Gaming Marathon - Your ideas

Murxidon, in co-operation with his brain and low-spec computer, is proud to present the yet-to-be-offical Saturday Night Gaming Marathon. Something which OnRPG is made for, and something which you will be a part of even if you don't like it.
I'm planning to spearhead a weekly event where members come together and play a round or few of our favourite, popular PC games. But due to a silly thing called time zones, it's apparent that not everyone will be able to play at the same time.
So I would appreciate it if you would complete the poll with the time you think you will most likely be able to play. If no one is interested, or a suitable time can't be found, then I will scrap the idea and conjure up another brilliant concept.
Any other ideas or opinions you have are also welcomed.
Times are in Central Time (US & Canada) GMT -06:00 hours
Any time if good for me on Saturday.

what games, you got a list yet or is this just brainstorming?
wouldnt 9-11 be like 1 in the morning or roundabout for GMT?
edit: nevermind, most of them are at ungodly hours.

On the subject of which games, there's a well, "cheap" Starcraft server we can use to play that. Seeing as some of us are too poor to buy anything.
And we could always acquire certain games and play over Hamachi.

that sounds fun. People can have a good time pwning my ***. :) I live in Toronto Eastern time zone, so 9-11 pm central is best.
Yeah, the game can't be that good though. My pc isn't that great. Anything made 2004-to present will probably not run too well if it does at all.
To give you an idea, I think the highest spec. game I've ever run on my pc was either Dawn of War or Civilization 4 (which lags like hell in the late game)
edit: you can get starcraft for like five bucks. If we play that I think everyone should be required to go out and buy it if they don't own it.

I don't have any PC games really.
I'm more Xbox Live. Tis a shame.

er, this wouldn't be for today though, would it? I mean, I could make it on, but I'm kind of busy so I wouldn't be able to stay for too long.
Next Saturday would be great, because I'd have time to orient my schedule around it.

It's just brainstorming right now, if you have any ideas on what games then put them forward. I was thinking Wolfenstein:ET for the first session. It's free and relatively low-spec. But, it's just ideas in the hat right now. I'm hoping to start the first event next week. But I'm glad someone other than me would be interested!

Enemy Territory is a great game! :D

LieroXtreme is quite a fun game if you play it properly..

Also some other time Baldur's Gate could be fun to play with a small group of onrpgers.

Depending upon how many people have it, Team Fortress 2 would be fun if someone setup a server.
I'm GMT so it's going to be starting late for me.

TF2 isn't the most common game.. though it's pretty fun.
I guess the focus will be on free games.

I'm +1 so I'm in a worse position :(
Well, even if we went bootleg pirate and got the decided game,we wouldn't be able to play online.
So,it's a shame but we'll have to go with free games...I like W:ET but America's Army can be fun as well.

Starcraft and Warcraft have free servers.
And the rest we can play over Hamachi.

This would be so much cooler if it was like a little league where you competed for points and like the top 20 or whatever. Just an idea. I won't be participating either way.

9-11pm is good for me. I have teh uberz computer so the game doesn't matter. I can also "aquire" any game too....
Anything but Starcraft.
Me shucks at Starcraft >:(.Hm...CoD4 would be a great game.Maybe Gear of War over hamachi.Oh i'll be able to run mostly anything,as long as it isn't Assassin's Creed.
Curse you Ubisoft! *angry fist wiggle*.Anyway, let's post specs. We'll try to get this organized before next Saturday.
P4 with two processors,estimated at 4.6GHZ,1GB RAM DDR (I know,i know.Blame my motherboard),X1600 PRO 512MB.

Gah...tiny...brain...can't...convert...time...
I live in EST...and any time after 8 PM EST is good for me.
I have a really shitty computer though, so I will be super limited. :-/

After looking over the times, it seems the most popular choice translates to about 5am GMT. Which isn't very good for us British gamers. It looks like the guy who came up with the idea won't get to take part at peak times, but we'll have to see what happens.
The first game will inevitably be Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's a small download and I will see if I can use my large network of tangled cables and redundant machines as a dedicated server to play. Not the greatest of ideas, but it's worth a try.
I'll sort times out midweek when more votes have been counted. My Xfire handle is Murxidon, so get adding!

My xfire is simplyluck. I'm willing to play anything. FPS games RPG games. But make sure the minimum requirement is below nvidia geforce 7x series.
Well if we're ganna play Enemy Territory I might not be able to play. Enemy Territory doesn't seem to like my comp very much.
