Athletic Shoes & Starbury
Basketball shoes endorsed by NBA players can fetch astronomical prices. Air Jordans can retail for more than $200, and Kobe Bryant and LeBron James signature shoes can easily go for more than $100 on various web sites.

So how will a $14.98 basketball shoe from NBA All Star Stephon Marbury stack up against the competition? It's hard to tell, but the vision behind the shoes is a great one, and if early sales are any indication, it's a concept that many are finding embraceable.

Available exclusively at Steve and Barry's University Sportswear, the premier item in the Starbury line of shoes and apparel is the Starbury One basketball shoe. The shoes retail for only $14.98, but Marbury claims that the Starbury One basketball shoes are the same as the most expensive shoes on the market.

Whether people are buying the shoes because of their quality; because of the Marbury name; or because they're tired of spending a what Marbury says for many is a "week's worth of groceries" on celebrity sneakers is unclear -- but they are buying them.

According to an article on Tennessean.com what was thought to be a month's supply of the footwear sold out within days at the more than 130 Steve and Barry's locations throughout the United States.
Stephon Marbury:

* New York Knicks Point Guard
* 2001, 2003 NBA All Star
* Career High Points in a Single Game: 50

Stephon Marbury Shoes:
The Starbury line currently includes the following items:

Starbury One: This is the big one. According to the official Starbury web site, this shoe is "Exactly the same as the most expensive kicks on the market," and retails for $14.98. A mid-top shoe, this style is available in several different color combinations.

Starbury Crossovers: These low top Starbury sneakers come in a variety of colors and styles, and retail for $9.98.

Starbury Cyclones: Looking a bit like a retro track shoe, these shoes also retail for $9.98.

Starbury SXM: Though these aren't touted as being "NBA quality," buyers on various web sites claim to prefer these high-tops over the Starbury Ones. Retail price: $9.98.

The line also includes apparel like hoodies, jackets and jerseys, all priced at $9.98 or less.

Thats cool, because he is trying to do something different, you know? I don't really like basketball, nor do I like basketball style shoes...but...hell, I might get myself a pair next time I get some shoes. Just to see what the quality of them is!

I think its really cool of that dude, to give kids the style they want, with a reasonable price tag attached! Sorry if this is an old thing...I'm slow when it comes to this stuff, but I found it to be neat.

Edit: I have to say, these are pretty snazzy...might just snag myself a pair. It looks like the price is reduced to "8.95" too. Good deal.

Those look pretty good, and I need some new shoes too. A decent pair of shoes here go for like $75USD. :(

Same here...I don't usually care much what my shoes look like...I just want them to hold together!

During the summer, I usually just wear slip ons anyway (just got a new pair yesterday)...and, inorder for those to last me the whole summer, I usually have to pay something like $40...$40 for some canvas and rubber. >:( But, I found some on clearance for $20 yesterday :)

Nike 6.0's are ****ing expensive.

I payed like $90 for my puma's and those are practically ruined now and I'm pretty pissed. If I wasn't so vain I would start buying cheap ugly shoes too.

Meh, Starburys are old news.

I still own a pair of Jordan XXI's myself. :D

The XX2 Omegas look sick... I remember trying them on the day they came out, and asking the dude at Champs how much they cost. They were 175 dollars; though they're cheaper now, as the XX3's have already been released, I don't plan on getting them until they drop below $100.

I also own a pair of the Adidas Pro Model. (Lawl, my coach knows a guy who can get them cheap, so the whole team has them, freshman, JV, and varsity). It's the team shoe.

I might have gotten a pair of Starburys if they sold them anywhere near where I live. Sorry, I'm not driving an hour just to get a pair of shoes.

Still, it's cool to find an NBA player that's not selling shoes for ridiculous prices. Basically, when you're paying $200 for a pair of Jordans, you're paying for the name and label that comes with it, more than the quality of the shoe.

Michael's still awesome though. :D

Converse FTW?

Thats an obvious choice...but, they are only available when you have $45 to throw down on a pair of shoes.

Starbury's can't even mantain their shape. Honestly, if you want your shoes to be of less quality than a cardboard box, go for it. Plus, everyone IS going to laugh at you, whether you care or not. You might as well just drop $30 on some cheap *** Vans or Converse.
