Bush and Middle East economics.....

Interestingly enough, there is a fierce debate on Bush stealing oil vs. not stealing oil. And the premisis seems to concentrate on the fact that stolen oil is not showing up in the states because prices are high.

Among Bush's allies are a number of noteworthy lobby groups:
- Weapons industries
- Oil industry
- Large corporations
- Armageddonist religious groups

All of the above thrive on a war agenda. With the army needing equipment and ammo, the weapons industry is doing great. With uncertaintly and a volatile market, $72 for crude is making the oil industry uber rich (check the figures on profits). Large corporations (Halliburton) are also making a killing in providing logistics for the army and through international contracts. In addition, these large corporations benefit from Bush's tax cuts immensly. And the armageddonists just live of the fear of war and are always preparing for war.

The average US tax payer doesn't really factor into politics equation since an average tax payer won't make the same contribution to an election campaign as one of the above.

The US economy used WWII to overcome the economic devastation of the great depression. And throughout the cold war, "war" played a key role in the US economy (armament, etc). After the cold war, a new enemy was needed. Otherwise the whole war component of the economy would crumble. And thus, attention was turned to the Middle East, specifically Iraq. Thus, the war component in the economy got rejuvinated in a major way.

Now to the Middle Eastern oil. It is a known fact that there are 2 oil markets: standard market and black market. Saddam Hussein used the black market to make tens of billions of dollars during the embargo to sustain his regime. The "royal" families controlling oil-rich countries in the Middle East also use the black market. For example, the region's largest oil producer at about 8 million barrels a day is governed by a royal family. This family pumps a few million barrels a day on the black market. The revenue from the blackmarket goes to teh family.

But how would Bush steal that? Not directly; and not in a cowboy style train robbery! First, the royal families are "advised" to invest in certain companies. They comply! The revenue is put in bank accounts in US banks (giving strength these banks and their owners). And these royal families make certain donations to certain organizations.

But the biggest money-maker is in the weapons industry. These countries purchase tens of billions of dollars of weaponry that they do not use. And every few years, they upgrade it. And so, the money goes back to the weapons manufactorers and large corporations, who are repayed in favor and are indebted to those who brought the arms deals their way.

And it is a known fact that the budgets of some of the oil-rich countries are drafted by US experts, and then approved by puppets who cannot say no to the US!

The thing about US foreign policy is that Americans have a duty to understand and assess their administrations' (Bush and others) foreign policy. Although, things outside the safe borders of the US do not seem to have any impact on the US, the truth is that they do. Just take the $3.00 per gallon as an example.

When pics of Abu Ghraib, guantanamo, and recently Haditha (to list very few) pop in the world media, public opinion vis-a-vis the US is affected.

But to bring it closer home, Americans now should be asking why their sons and daughters are dying in Iraq? If Bush has come out and said that the main 2 pillars of the war (WMD's and suspected al-Qaida links) are false, why the continued loss of lives?

Some might argue that the troops are there for freedom and democracy! But that's as preposterous as the first claims of the war. A country doesn't need 130,000 foreign troops occupying it to make it a democracy. And if the US has to occupy every country to make it a democracy, then the whole US population would have to be enlisted in the armed corps.

There is some serious high-level corruption and manipulation of American sentiment by the Bush administration. It is an administration that has made mistakes of colossal impact on the US. Funds were taken from the New Orleans levies renovation to help fund the (futile) war in Iraq. Who paid the price? A few thousand Americans lost their lives, hundreds of thousands were displaced, and about 100 billion dollars of damages were caused.

What did Bush and his cronies pay for that mistake? Nothing.

I bet the Bush's stupidity in New Orleans outdid the planning of terrorists for decades with regards to inflicting damage on the US. No one could have caused more suffering to Americans that Bush and his incompetents and warmongers, whose priorities do not include the welfare of Americans, but on pacifying them to get their votes.
