I'm currently big on the Gothic series developed by Jowood, they currently are developing Gothic 3 which should come out in the fall.

Neverwinter Nights is the only one I've ever tried to use. Pretty hard to code for, though. I've heard that the sequel will be easier for coding.

That is what you meant, right? Or did you mean actual game coding?

Although not wuit a game maker, I find Macromedia Director MX useful for make shockwave games. I'm currently in the process developing an half-mmog (max 500 people, hopefully) that will run in shockwave 3d. The problem, though, is you need to learn lingo (directors own scripting language) or need to know javascript and learn some director js methods.

Other than that, I'd recomend Game Maker. Only $15, and excelent for creating 2d games. There is a free version, but it lacks the ability to make multiplayer or 3d games.

GameMaker does do 3d and multiplayer if you have the .dlls.Gamemaker is not only a click and drag program it has a languague called GML.Its a great place to start.I've seen some pretty impressive games in it.

To use dll's, you have to buy it. Just like I said, the free version lacks netowrk multiplayer and 3d.

GameMaker (http://www.gamemaker.nl/) is a drag and drop game maker, but the straight drag and drop stuff is for Pac-Man and 1942 clones. It uses GML scripting to supplement the drag and drop icons for an easy game making experience. Its not that hard to learn. Best for Mario-like platformers or puzzle games. But it can make RPGs if you can script well.

RPG Toolkit (http://www.toolkitzone.com/) is my favorite RPG Maker. It comes with an easy to follow tutorial and built-in character and map editors. You need to learn a little scripting of course (any good RPG will) but like I said, easy tutorial.

Elysium (http://www.splamm.com/elysium/) is my favorite of the Playerworlds-based ORPG makers. An active admin and community with tons of new features, plus loads of VB add-ons for things like paperdolling sprites.

BYOND (http://www.byond.com/) is another good ORPG maker. The scripting is easy as heck to learn and use. You can also charge to play your game (Better be good though, with all the other free choices available). Only problem is the interface is clunky and it tends to have a choppy frame rate. (Though these can be worked around with advanced scripting)

I think 3D Game Maker is one of the best Game Makers out there! Here is a lil over view. It uses simple creation for games and comes with alot of dll's. Such as the Model makers and scenerioa/level editors. It uses their own launguage called C Script, which is a basic C++. It is not manditory to use the launguage unless you want to make a really complex game. What is good aboout the program is that it is easy to use, helps you get started in modeling, and programming, allows you to make great 3D games, and when you get advanced from using the C Script you know the basics of C++!

the site to get it is- http://www.3dgamestudio.com/
