I normally wouldn't be asking these questions because I'm quite conceited and think I can fix most of my computer problems myself. Alas, I've tried most of the things I could think of and it doesn't seem to be working. So, I've come here in hopes of someone knowing how they can help out.
Problem:This problem started just a few days ago. I was starting up Maple Story, and right after the Game Guard check, the computer rebooted. No Blue Screen of Death. No notice. Nothing. If anyone has knows anything about how I can fix this, I would love to give them a hug and a kiss.
Things I've already tried: Of course, being as arrogant as I am, I was bound to try a lot of things before asking for some help. Here are the things I've tried to fix this problem:
-I've tried deleting the Gameguard folder and relaunching. No go.
-Booted into Safe Mode and scanned the computer with NOD32, Kaspersky, AVG, and Avira. Also used the Online BitDefender, TrendMicro, and Panda scanners. Nothing detected.
-I've disabled the Windows firewall as well as my Comodo Pro firewall. Nothing.
-Unencrypted my drive with Truecrypt
-Ran a few registry cleaners
-Tried a system restore
-Uninstalled/Reinstalled the game twice
-Disabled any programs I had recently installed
Things you should know: As with any problem, it's always best if people explained the situation they are in. Here is what I think you should know about my computer. If you want to know more, be sure to ask.
-My computer meets the requirements for playing the game. Heck, I've been playing for the last three years. But for those who are still interested, I'm running an Intel Core Duo E6300 with 2GB RAM. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 graphics card which might not be so great, but it can run Maple Story fine.
-I have the latest drivers for all my gear.
-I'm running Windows Vista SP1, which isn't supposed to be a problem. I've already tried switching the compatibility mode to Windows SP2, but it still reboots my computer.
So, if anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this problem, be kind and speak up. Speak up or I'll eat you. I'll eat you and your babies. I swear I will.

Are you still running a Virtual Desktop for MS?
Did any programs require an update recently?
Did you try replacing your GG files?
Frankly, Piggy, you're running into a hacker related problem. When a hacking threat is detected that has been confirmed in the past, Maple Story will restart the whole computer. It'll be like this.
Double click Maple Story.
GG loads and runs.
GG scans your process for anything that will attach itself to MS.exe and for programs previously found to be illegal.
GG scans itself for any register value changes.
If any of these are found to be "false", then restart computer.
Else load MS.exe.

This happened to me a while ago, and I never learned how to fix it. So, I just reformatted my computer, (wipes everything out and makes it basically brand new) and it worked. Mine kept on rebooting because I had a really bad virus and I couldn't get rid of it so my only choice was reformatting.

if it was the hacker related problem you state it may be, wouldnt reinstalling it do the it? well... thats just my logic.

Why would reinstalling a game get rid of a hacking problem? If something is attaching to the game in some sort or affecting game play, how would reinstalling the game help? :hmm:

by reinstalling i mean Deleting it> installing it, how can a hacking tool you havent run be attached to it? is not like we are talking about a virus.

Hacking tools are meant to act like virus. They literally go into a program and alter the values at certain address. Or even sometimes they run with an injector and inject their own lines into it.
And reinstalling freaking means deleting and installing.

hacking tools (cheat engines, etc...) are dont work unless you run them.
Virus: A segment of self-replicating code planted illegally in a computer program, often to damage or shut down a system or network.
no, i dont think they are/work like viruses at all.
"And reinstalling freaking means deleting and installing." ...Just making sure.

Are you still running a Virtual Desktop for MS?
Nope. I've already disabled VirtuaWin, as well as most of the other programs I don't need at the moment.
Did any programs require an update recently?
None except for my Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware programs.
Did you try replacing your GG files?
I already deleted everything.

That's odd. I'm looking through my processes now and I don't see anything suspicious. However, I will be double checking all the extensions with another site to see exactly what they do. Thanks for the help.
@Idr. Warren: Viruses don't always attach to the program it's going to attack. Many times, viruses will attach themselves to your Root programs to make sure you can't delete them, and then they'll wreck havoc on other programs on your computer. Game Guard will detect any fishy activities and if one of my processes seem to be doing something odd, it'll try and stop it.

True, he might not have been running a cheat engine or trainer or bot but who said it was a cheat engine that was making him restart?
Around v.39, when I ran AIM and MS at the same time, I was restarted.
You don't need to be running a program specifically meant for hacking to be considered a threat.

dont know were you go that idea, it was an example of a hack...
never said something else couldnt be a threat...
...my guess is a virus, dont think its maple and doubt its your computer (requirements and things like that)... maybe you downloaded from a bad source, do you reinstalled maple or redownloaded? sorry if i cant be of much help, havent had that many problems with maple.

have you tried scanning for spyware?
i'd also suggest downloading and running HijackThis if you haven't already.
the hardest part for a problem like this is finding out exactly whats causing the problem.
do you happen to be running window mode or the dll that auto windows MS?
if so it could be simply due to GG detecting window mode and restarting your pc.
does your pc restart when you try do run anything else? or is it just when you run MS?

While it's always possible, I don't think my problem has anything to do with a virus. I don't want to be extremely pompous and say that I have never gotten a virus, but I can usually keep myself safe while on the internet. I'm pretty paranoid so I tend to run a lot of anti-virus/anti-spyware programs (though not at the same time mind you). I'm using Kaspersky and NOD32, both of which are extremely good and are the programs people consider to be the "best". I'm also using the Comodo Pro firewall program which is like the Vista UAC but worse. I've set it up so it'll prompt me when anyone on my computer is changed. Just installing a simple program would force me to click the 'Allow' button more than ten times, since Comodo detected that the installation program was making changes in the registry, etc. My web browsing is also pretty secure. I've customized Firefox with NoScript, AdBlock Plus, McAfee's SiteAdvisor, and many other tools that are supposed to keep me safe. Of course, there are bound to be a few things that slide though.
If NOD32 and Kaspersky aren't able to find anything wrong, then I'm betting that I don't have a virus. If there was a virus, I think it's weird that it's just damaging Maple Story. The other games I run are fine. Maple Story is the only program that reboots my computer.
@Olaph: I've already mentioned that I've scanned with NOD32 and Kaspersky, along with a few other nifty tools that are online scanners (in case my desktop scanners had been comprised) My HijackThis log has nothing odd. I've already disabled most of the programs and it's quite empty. I've already noticed that the things running the HijackThis file are files that I've allowed to run. I'm not using any hacking utilities and I don't use Window Mode. The computer only restarts when running Maple Story, so I'm assuming it's a program with Game Guard.
Update: I've run the Chkdsk.exe utility and it hasn't discovered any bad sectors. I'm also taking a look at the processes and services I'm running but nothing looks suspicious. More ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do your anti virus programs have resident shield or whatever they call it, and is it on? If so, try disabling them.

if its just MS that crashes and restarts your pc then its not a windows or computer problem.
its obviously as you said a GG/MS problem.
did this issue just start happening out of the blue?
do you happen to be running any instant messengers while MS is running?
im just asking generic questions so we can try and solve this :p

@YarpsDart: I've turned off all the Resident Shields for all my programs. I'm basically a naked baby swimming in a sea full of fat sharks.
@Olaph: The problem started recently. I haven't installed anything or done any major tweaks so it confused me quite a bit. I've stopped all my Instant Messengers and I'm not running any programs when I try to start the game.

Three things I am sad to see you didn't try
1. Hit it
2. Unplug/plug it back in

What are you talking about? I literally tried to blow the back of my computer to get rid of the dust. There could have been so much dust in my computer that it would automatically reboot my computer whenever my processor was working too hard, since that's a way to prevent a meltdown. Shame, but the back of the computer was too big and when I blew on it, the dust went into my mouth and made me choke a little.
Now, what are you talking about? What joke?

We have one in our Comp Sci class. It's so fun to spray people with it. XD
