hello onrpg members, i would like to ask if you have to have a rogers technician to go to your house and install the modem and cable for you?

i've searched the site but i can't seem to find the right answer to this particular question.

if i do need a technician, do i really have to pay $90 to the technician? cuz i saw it on the website. My aunt is using rogers high-speed right now but she didn't pay that feed to the technician when he went to her house and install all the necessary equipment. Did rogers changed their policy about technician feed???

plz and thank you for your support

I'm pretty sure that Rogers is exclusively a Canadian thing, isn't it?

Yeah, I had a techinican to come and drill a small hole in my room to put the cable through, but he didn't install the modem though. (Installing the modem is as easy as 1,2,3.). Not sure, about the 90$ bucks thing cause, I got my roger cable internet like 3 years ago, and I have rly rly bad memory.

Sometimes you can find a promotion to get installation free.

Do you have cable in your home already, like for TV? Is there cable already in the room in which the modem will reside? If so you probably don't need installation. Get a cable modem from the company (they'll usually mail it or you can get one at the local office), hook it up and be good to go.

Since I am not familiar with Rogers in particular I cannot say with any certainty if all the houses have a trap on them to lock down the internet or not. That would indeed require installation. Best bet would be to determine if you need more cables in your home/apartment/cardboard box and if not to call them and ask if installation would be needed because you already have the required line.

I think they may waive the fee depending on what package your signing up for. Though I don't know what their current policy is, as when I signed up for cable internet it was Shaw Cable in this area. I'm currently on Rogers Extreme 8mbits down / 1mbits up... Though actual speeds are closer to 1mbits down (On a good connection/server) and upload is closer to 80 kb/s. There's also bandwidth caps going into effect this June. Rogers Extreme is limited to 95 gbs of bandwidth which includes both downstream and upstream. Going over the limit will cost me 1.25 per gb upto 25 gb.

My recommendation for internet in Toronto/Canada... Find someone else. :|

saddly, upload/download limits are part of (almost)evry ISP now in canada, since we have flexible laws regarding peer 2 peer, this is the only way they have of fighting back piracy. =/ though, its also just an easy buck for them.

Internet is being shit-headed now.

Rogers AND Bell changed their policies.

1) Both require 90~100$ for A technician now.
2) They've implemented a limit on downloading/uploading.

Right now, for me, it's a 90 GB or 125GB D/U limit monthly :(

is that when downloading you get 1mbps (so around 1000kbps), or when downloading you get around 120kbps?

When I download from something like Fileplanet, I get around 1,100 kb/s.

then you have a 10mb connection

you need to seperate the speed by 8 (the 10mbps) and you have it (well, it always was so when i calculated it)

also, its rarely you walways have the excact number, its always a little bit less then they offer, distances and stuff

Usually companies have promotional events that wave the installation fee. So you might be able get lucky there.

I don't have Rogers, but I am Canadian. My ISP had to come to a house I rented before. They didn't install the modem or anything, but they had to rip all the old crappy cable out of the house and install new ones.

That was fantastic because I needed the new cable to get the 15Mbps internet so I didn't mind paying a fee there though. hehe

You other Canadians have download caps? Man that sux ***. As Canadians we have a tax on music/movies and such that helps cover losses from piracy. Download limits usually are not enforced to prevent piracy. Must be a ghetto ISP that's capping you. In this day and age... caps have no place.

My bandwidth limit is only 60 GB. I went over for the like the first three months and my dad threatened to cut it off if I kept on going over so I had to adjust.

Nothing worth downloading has come out in the past few months so I've been able to stay well below the limit.
