Anyways, a little background:
Ever since I was like 10, my dad has had these ridiculous Parental settings set up so that nearly every website is blocked from access from my computer. (Youtube, Wiki, Google Images, Imageshack and photoshop - including all images hosted there) pretty much any website of any goodness. Anyways, it appears that my dad or the service has accidently or purposely unblocked this setting and now I can actually go places. It's amazing. In fact, I just viewed my friend's aol profile. It was great!

Topic: Do your parents have extreme strict filtering on anything you do? (Where you go, who you're with, ect., not just internet).

EDIT: Youtube, and Myspace are still blocked so i'm guessing any purposely just communication site is blocked.

my parents use K9 web protection, and it blocks youtube, newgrounds, and those "good" websites when im horny because of my puberty, and im gonna be 13 real soon.

Ive never had any blocks on my pc or anything, and they dont check it. My PC isint in my room though, its by my living room, next to my dads pc. Thats the only restriction :P

I live in a small town, but probably 95% of the people here smoke pot and/or drink. This is the kids I am talking about, not the adults. I'm one of the people who don't. Kind of sucks since hanging with my friends on weekends sucks since all they do is get high and wasted.

They've never used parental controls, mainly because they trust me. I've gotten good grades and stayed out of trouble, at least that they're aware of.

My brother was always getting in trouble though, but they quickly released it was impossible to keep him on 'a leash' with restrictions. And they released the same for me after a couple incidents led to me running away, as well as me fighting back.

Plus, hard to use parental controls when your kid knows his way around technology one hundred times better then you.

so they left it as it was since they had trust in me.

my younger sister has it bad tho.
since i blocked all naughty/social sites on her laptop.
basically restricted her internet usage to disney.com lol.

my parents dont even have the most basic knowledge of computers. to help you understand how bad it is heres an example. last year when i was visiting home my brother was complaining about IE so i said why not try ff. so he installed it and removed all the ie shortcuts from the start menu. when my mum went on the computer even though there was a firefox icon which said "internet" she had to ask my brother for help. the icon was in the exact same place as the IE one used to be and it even said internet next to it for feck sake.

also, everytime theres one of those piddling little announcements like the ones about encrypted data and stuff when you go to certain sites she insists on reading it every time.... and me and my brother are like... seriously it does that all the time its not important but she says nononono i want to read it it might be something important.

oh well, its a different generation i guess.

Im 15 atm and none of my sites are blocked the only thing thats been on my computer from my parents is like an automatic sleep timer that cuts my comp off at like 10:30 or so but they dont really care now

my parents never really blocked anything on my computer though my step mother was smart enough to be able to check what websites I was on...

I knew more than both of them heck my dad didn't know even how to turn on a computer I have just recently been teaching him how to use one, since he is retiring and has alot of free time.....

My parents dont block stuff on my computer, but if im gonna go out to a party or something, shes always needs to know: Friends name, friends that will be there, will there be open alcohol, were were going after, when ill be home, my transportation. Not cool. plus she thinks that the moment i walk out the door ill get stabbed or shot.

Dad tried to block sites twice, his methods were kind of easy to get around though.

No restrictions here, ever. My dad has found my porn stash twice though, first time he was like "What the fudge, Quake 3 can't possibly be over 30gb" and he searched the folder for anything with "xxx" in it. Gawd, he almost died of laughter while I almost shit my pants in embarrassment. Luckily, he only searched that folder. I have it all spread out ^^;. Almost impossible to hide anything from him though, he has worked with computers for over 15 years. Both hardware, software and security so he knows his way around possibly everything and anything.

Tried setting a password on my Windows account, it was reset when I got home from school. Even though I have my own computer in my room and he has his own computer in the living room, he always messes with mine. Damn him. ****.

He even tricked me into formatting my own HD. I forgot what he said, but I bought every last word of what he said and did it (DOS-Box involved.). Now I can't trust him, he lurks around every corner. In fact, I bet he's smithing his next master plan right now >_>

well erasing the history won't do much...

if you parents are smart enough , which you said they weren't, they could still find evidence of what you were on.....

I can find temp files of everything I downloaded or went on that is held in another folder......

also if they know the ip address you used then they can find out what you were on....

many many ways to track it....trust me I have tried hiding enough things when I was young, though my step mom was able to pull it out of a windows folder that had a name like wewqeqwe134532 which was hidden into 4 other folders...

though I learned much about computer and can hide my identity pretty well....... I think my parents have the knowledge of a bestbuy geek squad person.......

...which isn't saying much.......when I was first getting into computers when around the time yahoo came out I knew more than those guys back then.......

....it's sad what we think qualifies a professional now and days....
