You know, the one where you get your ass kicked several times a day, NOT by the players, but by the monsters/enemies or gameplay elements? The game that gives you the most frustration because it's almost impossible to level up without dying/losing several times in the process?

I would have to say Mabinogi. It's not a hard game by itself... but the combat system is somewhat tricky, and a small lag spike can mean your DEATH, or... more like several DEATHS in the same Dungeon.

Everquest is by far the hardest mmo i've played, but it makes what you earn all the more sweeter.

I remember Ultima Online wasn't that difficult, but it had one of the worst death punishments ever. D:

Mabinogi isn't hard as "OMG I WILL NEVER BEAT THAT MONSTER EVER!" because you can kill almost any monster as long as you have a good strategy. The thing with Mabi is, a tiny lag spike, a small mistake on your part, activating Defense instead of Counter, and you are pretty much dead.

I'm going to presume I'm not the only one who finds it funny that even without the added burden of EU players, the servers can't cope.

It's even better now that they let Oceania play (like they couldn't before by other means...) without adding extra servers/channels. It's a beautiful lagfest. Not to mention a faulty node that experienced packet loss and 2000+ pings. Not sure if they fixed that by now.

You just need quick reflexes to logout to the character select screen before you die. Not that hard really.

FFXI, EQII. Age of Conan the first few weeks untill the lag crapped down enough for me to actually combo, then the game was just mildly difficult.

ultima online was the most fustrating but it was fun,sometime people would wait were you get revived and just kill you everytime you try to. your body would be scattered all over the place. other monsters could tear you up with just couple hits but once your realy expierienced you can keep you self alive alot better.also get your boats stole your animals ran off somewere scandalous stuff.
eq1 was very fun one wich was hard like ultima no guide lines and pk was everywere and you didnt want to die in crowd of monster couse you had to go get your body and with no stuff your gonna die trying.
shadowbane was also fun even though everytime you step out of town and try to hunt someone has you on track and comes to kill you thats way stonger but since skill customisation and high hp u can put up fight pretty early so wasnt all bad.

Tibia has the most difficult quests, definitely my hardest (Even postman quest was hard because it took my whole day 12 hours, Oh and omg Pits of Inferno , don't even mention Pits of Inferno, and too scary to do Annihilator quest)

Oh ye, EQ1 indeed. Only played it on a cough server (SoD) tho. I loved the game, but quit it because it was too darn hard. The cities were like mazes. Some of the quests were nearly impossible to do at the level you get them (you gotta go to the sewers, you go to the sewers, you notice that there's angry bunch of skeletons there, you run away but the skeletons will follow you until you're dead, you die, you get exp debt).

Uhhh...WoW came out 2 weeks after EQII. So unless they implemented a patch with all that stuff straight after it came out (which they didn't) then you're wrong.

EQ1 Definately. 72 man raids, soloing was IMPOSSIBLE unless you were a druid or a necromancer, looking for a group for hours... I quit after the first fabled event and went to DAoC, which was considerably easier, and more fun at the time.

Hmm Rohan, without doing the tutorial, as a dhan, not knowing the best skills to get. That was a nightmare..

My friend died to the first level 0 mob in the tutorial on guildwars, I didn't think that was possible.

Guild wars is probably the hardest overall, even with buffed out players, on the later maps with no teamwork you would die. I do remember soloing my way from start to halfway through lions arch saga of quests with my ranger, that was fun.

I am pretty sure no one who has played the game more than one month gives any respect to that title, atleast not me. Its basicly like if you get that player in your team doing some mission, its like almost certain the player is gonna press alt+f4 at some point, and doesnt basicly do anything other than just stand on back. And what comes to those who are most respected players I would say its most of the players that play in top 100 guilds.
The game itself altho its very likely to get killed every now and then, if I remember correct I have somewhat 4000+ deaths on my char, which of atleast 3000+ have come from PvP. But since you can get to max lvl char in one day of playing, its not like the dying really makes the leveling impossible.

Your team has to be perfectly coordinated and you have to have exactly the right skills for dealing with the types of mobs you'll be encountering in the mission. There are even sometimes added non combat tasks in between fighting monsters. Oh, I will never play that game again unless I am assured a guild with competent players. The pug experience is the worst.

Tibia. In order to do quests you must talk to npcs, and not just click, you really must talk to em.

You say words and they answer if u say the right word.. So, in order to get good items, you must go around all the world map talking to all npcs saying stuff related to that item, to get a clue where you really should go.

Mine would have to be Guild Wars on Hard Mode (Old Ascalon made me cry on that one... 4 people against level 28 Charr... -tear-) or Mabinogi. Nearly all f2p games are hard for me because i get so bored and i give up. Ninga Giaden is my hardest game though (Not a MMO, i know) try it on the hardest difficulty and your gonna die...a lot. Guild Wars end game dungeons in Eye of the north are hard as i like to try to complete the game solo and with my heroes.

Maybe because its a generic way for mmorpg's to run...has nothing to do with people stealing ideas and whatnot thats just the easiest way they figured it would work out for the players and themselves.

Hard to say, Mabinogi comes to mind just because me and my friend were messing around with the dungeon system as newbs and got our asses handed to us on a plate by a giant spider and its minions.

Prometheus tried to teach Bob ways of life, recording his lessons on videotape, but Bob could not understand and did what cavemen do best, be chaotic. He often became frustrated and hit Prometheus.

PSU. Some of the S rank monsters and up can kill you in one or two hits.

I've played just about every major p2p/b2p MMORPG and a good 75% of the ftp ones, and the game that springs to mind is definitely everquest, especially when you are low-to-mid level and ignorant about how the world works and what the geoghraphic layout is like.

That game had incredible "character", too. Having played it for years, almost every MMO I've played since is pretty weaksauce in the difficulty department. Anarchy online when it was first released might be equally difficult because of the incredibly steep learning curve.
