View Full Version : Pet Owners: Have You Ever Went To A Retarded Veterinarian ?

As for me, I have. She's also my first Veterinarian.

Today, I brought my kitten to the vet for an exam. ( Well, they require an exam for new patients ) and it cost me around $40. Anyway, the vet asked me what brand of cat food I fed to my kitten. I told her that I feed her Nature's Variety Instinct canned food, Orijin dry food, and Nature's Variety raw food. She looked at me as if I was crazy, and said that I shouldn't have fed my kitten canned food since it's supposedly bad ( which is not ) for her teeth, and raw food since she said it's bad for them ( what the heck? ). She also mentioned she never heard of a brand called Orijin and told me to stop because it's an unknown brand to her ( she assumes it's bad? ) and recommended me Science Diet. I told her Science Diet wasn't good ( it's crap! believe me... ) because it contains by products. She insisted that it is a good brand - and that i did my research wrong, accompanying with an attitude. I got so irritated at her and told her " I'm never coming back here " and left. Gosh!

LOL wet cat food is better than dry I use to have cat when I was a kid. If you are going to use dry cat food switch it up with wet cat food. It's not good for cats to only eat dry cat food. Also the vet we went to was ok we never had problem with them.

Feeding a cat solely on a dry food diet is not bad, provided that there is plenty of fresh water available for your cat to drink.

The problem is that some cats do not drink enough water, and then the dry food is bad for them. You can also mix a water in with the dry food, which can help some cats increase their water intake.

To Alluring Angel:

From our last cat discussion I think I may change up the cat food I am feeding my kitties. I read more into what exactly are animal by products and such and now I don't want to feed them anything with it in it!

I just have to check the pet store to find out if there are any good brands available in my area that aren't brutally expensive.

Would you be able to list off maybe the top 3 dry cat foods that you would recommend? (just so I have an idea of what to look for going in)

Sure, I can recommend you a good brand of cat food that isn't too expensive... Lets see:

1. Felidae < - Available at smaller pet stores. The best one for a reasonable price on the list, thus placing #1.
2. Natural Balance < - Available at Petco
3. Nutro ( Natural Choice, don't buy Max Cat ) <- Available at Petco & Petsmart

^ Those three are affordable brands. But if you have the money, here are the top brands:

1. Orijin <- My pick. They only have dry version, and no canned version.
2. Evo
3. Natures Variety <- My pick. They have dry, canned, & raw.
4. Merrick
5. Eagle Pack

All of these are only available in smaller pet stores.
I have a question, how much would you pay ( max ) for a 5.5 lb bag?

All of them are retarted xD

That's wrong. Canned and raw food does not really make cats fat, lol. Dry food has higher fat and carbohydrate content ( usually ) and it tends to make cats fatter. Actually, that depends on the brand... Usually the cheaper ones are the bad ones. Cats does not drink enough water - thus thats where canned food comes in the picture... It contains a lot of moisture, which mimics their food in the wild... so they get well-hydrated unlike feeding them solely on dry food. Raw food is hands down... the best possible food for cats out of dry and canned food. It just tends to get pretty expensive preparing raw food for my kitten, so I rotate between canned and dry food.

I am not even sure of what the weight is on the IAMs bags. We generally buy the small bags for $9.99. The larger bags are $17.99.

So, maybe 50% more than that per bag for better food perhaps? I don't wanna spend too much, since I have never exeperienced a food related issue with any cat that I have ever owned so far. But, my cats now are house cats, so a better brand will be more suited for them I think.

(previously all my cats were outdoor cats with plenty of woods and such to run around in, catch animals, get exercise etc)

edit: forgot to thank you for the list. Thanks!

what's the average cost of a human medical consult in your country?, you know something it's wrong when the veterinarian charges more for a consult than a human doctor... I mean 40 bucks? that's a lot for a general examination here in my country

Ah, if that's the case, pick one from this list then:

My kitten's food is pretty expensive, lol.
- Orijen ( dry cat food ) is $19.00 for 5.5 lb bag ( probably the size of the small iams bag you mentioned )
- Natures Variety ( raw ) which is $12.00 per 3 lb bag
- Nature's Variety Instinct ( canned ) which is $1.80 per 5.5 ounce.

I'm quite sure you wouldn't want to spend that much... so yeah stick with the list above, lol.

I have no clue... I have insurance and all, so we only pay $5 dollar fee each visit.

To the left, that's the brand I highly recommend that has a reasonable price. It's $9.99 for a 5lb bag. I recently just switched, so I don't feed my kitten Felidae anymore... want it? lol. I still got so much left!

I would take it, but I bet you are halfway across the world and the shipping costs would be more than it would cost in the store. LOL

Yep. Sucky...

Yea, that's the problem here. We don't have a ton of brands, especially in my area. Pet stores that stock some of it in other parts of Canada tend not to have as many varieties in my area.

Well, if the vet made you pay ahead of time then she really sucks!

If you had to pay afterwards, I would of just ran out.

They have no way of tracking you down unless you gave them personal info!
Of course, I would also make sure that your lisence plates are not visible!>_>

Don't try this unless you want to go to jailXD

Haven't been to the vet in a long time because my dog goes crazy when he's placed in the car or goes to a different location. I think he has memories of bad things in different buildings and cars.
I feed my dog all the food I don't eat. Fruits, veggies, chips, flavored rice that's gross, meat and the fat around it, Gatorade, soda, strawberry Pocky, popcorn...
He's fat, so I take him to an open field where new houses will be built in the future. He likes to run around. :D

Some tend to be like that. We've gone to the same vet for all of our pets...ever.

Usually, with the kitties, we get them their first round of vaccinations, then don't get anymore. We are real careful to keep them indoors though. :)

Don't worry about any fucking nonsense they tell you regarding food. Seriously...my dog ate nothing but McDonalds hamburgers and pizza crust, and she lived a long, happy 14 years. Don't let them fool you.

Didn't that cost a lot? Considering one big mac cost like 3 dollars...

My cat throws up like crazy if we feed her wet food.
But I don't think we have a retarded vet. I've never met our vet, but I bet that he/she is okay.
