I am wondering if there is a fix for the following problem:
The sound on my computer seems to be going out, a while back it suddenly got REALLY quiet, can hardly hear youtube videos when speaker volume is maxed, same with headphones. Is the soundcard going bad? I don't know, you tell me! Thaks in advance.

Do you have mic/headphone jacks on the front and the back of your PC?

If so, trying plugging your devices into which ever one you are not using right now. (maybe those jacks are going bad/damaged

Also,

Sometimes weird problems like this are caused by spyware/virus. If you do not have an antivirus or spyware program installed please do so, and run full scans in safe mode.

There is the headphone jack on the front, which has reduced sound as well as the speakers, and I do think we have spyware cause our
McAfee virus scan always gets stuck at a certain # of files.

do u have an independent sound card of it's part of the motherboard? if u have an extra card and the motherboard has an sound capabilities you might have an hardware conflict (check the BIOS)

instead of having your speakers plugged from the back of your comp plug in the headphone hole in front of your pc, it fixed the prob for me.

Thanks, but it didn't work, same problem, as for hardware confliction or w/e it shouldnt have that problem, its the original soundcard that the system came with.

Um, have you tried restarting your comp?
using another speaker?
checking to see that it's plugged in properly?
system restored?
pound your speaker a few times?

It not the speakers, because the headphones are WAY quiter as well. Restarting the comp? I've had this problem for a month or so, and the comp gets shutdown every night.

Aight, so lets get rid of your virus and shit.

This what you do:

1. Uninstall mcaffee (its shit) and reboot

2. Download NOD32 (www.eset.com) it is a trial but fully functional(the best antivirus around). If you would rather a free one, then get avast (http://www.avast.com/) or avg (http://free.grisoft.com/)

3. Download spybot search and destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org)

4. Install NOD32 and update it (probably reboot)
5. Install spybot and update it. (when installing uncheck teatimer and that other thing, we dont need that, we just need it for manual scanning)

6. Reboot and go into 'safe mode no networking' (hit f8 as windows is loading)

7. Run a full scan with NOD32 (or one of the other ones I mentioned)

8. Run a full scan with spybot and remove whatever it finds

9. Reboot into normal mode and test your sound
