So I'm in a kind of predicament. For the longest time I've been wanting to scrounge up my old D2 and LoD disks and pop them in for some good times. I sat down to do that a few days ago and after gathering all my old discs realized that I'm missing my D2 CD-Key. All of my old discs were inside my LoD case which still has an active and working CD-Key. Problem is, to install D2 I need it's key, one of which I don't have. So I'm not entirely sure what to do. I want to play on the Battle.net servers so using a key generator is out of the question. Also, I read up on what to do about getting a new key from Blizzard, but I'd rather not wait 2-4 weeks for one.
So... any ideas?

If the game is not installed, then there won't be any way to get that key back. If it was installed you could have extracted this code from the registry.
Do your cases not have these cdkey stickers on them?

Well, for some reason both my D2 original and LoD discs were put in to my LoD case. I have the LoD CD-Key sticker still on the outside. The problem is that I can't install D2 without the original key which is most likely gone for ever. I'm thinking it's looking like I'm going to just have to buy a key or the game again somewhere.

Yea, buying the game/cdkey again is probably your only bet unless you can find the original disc.
I always email myself cdkeys to gmail or some other account I can always access so in case I lose my case, or scratch off the key from the sticker, I still have access to it.
My LOD key had the first 5 digits scratched off it but I was able to get the numbers from another place.
I recently reinstalled d2+lod again. Useast ladder.
:)
EDIT:
I used to be a HUUUUUGE diablo 2 player so I had 3 pages single spaced of d2+lods keys. I'll give ya one if I can find the sheet. But, don't let this get your hopes up. I haven't looked for that sheet in probably 3 years......so it may be 1% chance I can get you a key.
(they were all legit, so don't worry about that)

Same thing happened to me except all my discs were in the Diablo 2 packet, so I don't have my LOD key.

Well I appreciate anything you can do. See, the problem here is that I played D2 back when it was originally released. Hell, I beta tested the game. I didn't have a gmail account or serious e-mail account at all for that matter. Never thought I'd actually lose it, and in all actuality I think my mother threw it away many years ago. Now I know to send myself my old keys though. :P

Uh cd key grabber? That could work I guess, unless it doesn't grab cd keys that are really old.

Hasn't been installed to a comp I've had in over 4 years most likely.

There are programs out there that retrieve the CD key off the CD.
I cant recall the one I had to use, but I know there is a key retriever for D2 CD.
Its a simple program. When it loads up, its asks for you to insert the CD and it obtains the key that is on the CD.
Can anyone here remember these?

Makes no sense.
A CD key is completely separate from the CD. There is no bit of coding on a CD, at least a Diablo 2 CD, that is any different from any other CD on purpose. They mass produce the CDs, and have randomly generate keys created, encoded into the servers to active them there, then placed on the packets.
This is the reason they can give you a new key if you lost yours and can prove you bought it. You send proof, they generate a new key, they enable it, then they send it to you.

Its too bad you lost the wrong CD-Key, because Battle.net only checks your original CD key and not the one from LOD. Technically meaning that if you download LOD and use a key generator, but you had the original Diablo 2 then you could still get on Bnet. I know because I had to change my original key once thanks to blizz banning me from bnet a long time ago.
Your best bet would be to get a new CD-Key from Blizz and then type it in here:
http://www.blizzard.com/account/
so you never lose it again and can download all the Blizzard games whenever you want. Yay for digital distribution.

No, because I had to buy a 2nd copy of the original Diablo 2 anyways and didn't want to go through the whole installation to change a cd-key.
